Spy

When a friend asked me for a review, I described it as run-of-the-mill and a little stuck up, and let’s be honest I was not lying to him. Why did Rose Byrne’s character have to have the exact high-and-mighty personality as in Bridesmaids? The trailer was much better than the film itself. I was expecting it to fit into The Heat’s shoes and end up being its unintentional sequel. And let’s be honest it was not even half half as funny. I had more fun seeing Hot Pursuit even though it was not impressive either. I am glad that in comparison to Bridesmaids this one was almost family friendly. I hate when films are over-sexed for no good reason, and the sex or over exaggerated dirty jokes do not bring anything to the storyline. Remember when Identity Thief was doing well enough up until the point when Melissa’s character slept with that cowboy to steal his wallet? Braidsmaids did not throw me off my feet either. But The Heat did, and I really hope they’re gonna make the second part.

‘I just hear my mum’s voice. Just blend in, let somebody else win. I got that a lot in high school. And there was, “give up on your dreams, Susan.” She used to write that in my lunchbox.’

‘My father used to bring people like you here.’
‘Did he also make you dress like a slutty dolphin trainer?’

‘I’m very non-physically resourceful. I read a lot of intelligence, I read a lot of poems, and I’ve read all of the ‘Hunger Games”

‘How do you like my English accent? I learned it from the Downton Abbey’

The Fault in Our Stars

I should read the book that’s gathering dust on my bookshelf prior to writing the review on the film, but let’s be realistic, I am never gonna read it. But the film was better than ordinary. As a matter of fact, it was better than I expected. The scene when the characters meet their idol, who turns out to be a drunk, and offends them and all they dreams and assumptions about the author get crushed, is stimulating. We all idolize our idols, favorite writers, actors, directors, don’t have flaws. How many times have we not paid attention to certain rumors or defended our role model’s behaviour, explaining to people that we all have our problems and lots of people go through similar things. Was it better than Nicholas Sparks’ biggest hit Walk to Remember? Probably not. I found the kissing in Anne Frank’s house disturbing and extremely inapropriate. Don’t talk to me about hope, show some respect. Aside from that, the story was touching and poignant and despite being teen oriented, worth watching.

‘Pain demands to be felt.’

‘I cannot stop thinking about this God damned book.’
‘You’re welcome.’

‘I fell in love with him the way you fall asleep: Slowly, and then all at once.’

‘One of the first things they ask you in the ER is to rate your pain on a scale from 1 to 10. I’ve been asked this question hundreds of times and I remember once, when I couldn’t catch my breath and I felt like my chest was on fire, the nurse asked me to rate the pain. Though I couldn’t speak, I held up 9 fingers. Later, when I started feeling better, the nurse came in and she called me a fighter. “You know how I know?” she said, “You called a 10 a 9.” But that wasn’t the truth.
I didn’t call it a 9 because I was brave. The reason I called it a 9 was because I was saving my 10…and this was it.’

‘Hello, ma’am. Your daughter, she’s done a great injustice, so we’ve come here seeking revenge. You see, we may not look like much, but between the three of us we have five legs, four eyes and two and a half pairs of working lungs, but we also have two dozen eggs, so if I were you, I would go back inside.’

‘Mr. Van Houten. I’m a good person, but a shitty writer. You’re a shitty person, but a good writer. I think we’d make a good team. I don’t wanna ask you for any favors, but if you have the time – and from what I saw you had plenty – please fix this for me: It’s a eulogy for Hazel. She asked me to write one, and I’m trying, but I just… I could use a little flair. See, the thing is… we all wanna be remembered. But Hazel’s different. Hazel knows the truth. She didn’t want a million admirers, she just wanted one. And she got it. Maybe she wasn’t loved widely, but she was loved deeply. And isn’t that more than most of us get? When Hazel was sick, I knew I was dying, but I didn’t wanna say so. She was in the ICU when I snuck in for ten minutes and I just sat with her before I got caught. Her eyes were closed, her skin pale, but her hands were still her hands, still warm, and her nails were painted this dark blue black color, and… I just held them. And I willed myself to imagine a world without us and what a worthless world that would be. She’s so beautiful. You don’t get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she’s smarter than you, ’cause you know she is. She’s funny without ever being mean. I love her. God, I love her, I’m so lucky to love her, Van Houten. You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world, but you do have a say in who hurts you. And I like my choices. I hope she likes hers. Okay, Hazel Grace?’

Tomorrowland

If not the visual effects, the film would drown immediately. Britt Robertson is one of the very few young actors who’s carrier I follow, yet I could not sit through The Longest Ride. I’ll probably wait for it to come to Netflix or catch it on tv in a couple of years. The special effects are impressive, and to be honest, when I saw them in the trailer I thought, I’m gonna go see it, if only for the beautiful wheat field takes and other special effects, and it was the right choice. The film loses it’s value when not watch at the movies or a giant flat screen in HD. I will get it on DVD.  Is there another part?

Have you ever wondered what would happen, if all the geniuses, the artists, the scientists, the smartest, most creative people in the world decided to actually change it ? Where, where could they even do such a thing ? They’d need a place free from politics and bureaucracy, distratctions, greed – a secret place where they could build whatever they were crazy enough to imagine.

5.5/10

Insidious 3

It was supposed to be a prequel, but it felt like a completely different film, and in a good way. Even though the scene when the girl breaks the casts on her legs is foolish and vexing, and the film was not at all scary. After we found out who was the sinister creature, we saw he was not even remotely as scary as the main villain of Insidious 1 and 2. I have Insidious 2 on Netflix UK, so I may rewatch it soon, but this one was definitely the weakest link.

Recess: School’s Out

And to finish off, this animated kids film. TJ gets abandoned for holidays as the rest of the gang leaves for summer camp. TJ makes an unexpected friend and saves the school. Out of all the movie parts I have only seen this on and Taking the 5th Grade, and even though this one was slightly worse, I still hope to see the remaining parts.

I’ll let you in on a little secret, Detweiller. Every adult you’ve ever known was a kid at sometime in his life. You think we don’t remember summer vacation? Riding our bikes down the creek. Catching polliwogs in a jar. Camping out under the stars. Well you’re wrong! Sometimes I sit there in my office, looking out at you kids in the playground and I think, “They don’t know how good they got it. In a few years, they’ll be grownups like me and all those good times will be memories for them, too”. So go ahead. Put a whoopie-cushion in my chair. Put fake vomit on my carpet. Make fun of my “big, saggy butt”. But don’t ever say I don’t care about summer vacation, ’cause those memories are the last part of childhood I got left.

What am I going to do? Play baseball by myself, watch reruns? Read?!

This week I finally got the chance to watch Top of the Lake (thanks Netflix). It was very much like The Killing, butwith this beautiful backstorythat held it all together. The conclusion was marvellous too. I did not grade it, but it would be a high score.  I just finished watching Wet Hot American Summer’s prequel series, but I did not rate it and I honestly do not think I’ll ever watch it again. I’ll write a review on it when write about the original film. I wanted to wait with this post another week, but with no The Whispers this week, there’s just not enough to write about, and I know I owe you lots of film reviews, but I just wanted to get these out of the way. I need my fall shows to start as these three are literally making me doubt my intelligence.

The Whispers 1.08

I absolutely adore the title sequence, the theme music is very horror like creepy good. Like I said before, too sci-fi for me. Lovely creepy home video. Drill made Mink’s mother kill the father? It was obvious he’d close the door on them. The show would be better if they still signed. It’s obvious you don’t leave a kid in the car.

Drill he’s gone sweetheart.
No, he’s not.
No he wasn’t, I lied.
Thia article has been written in 1982.
Drill has been here before.
Kill.
I won’t play, ever.
He’s not imaginary, he’s real.
He killed his brother.
I lost two sins that day.
It’s were he was killed.
It’s never about rhe kids, It’s about the parents.
He took his name. That way the bad one dies and the good one lives.
Drill wants her to kill the father?
That’s when the whispers started.
Please help me.
They must have sent another one.
I killed Drill.
How did you kill Drill?
How did you do it?
He knows how to kill Drill.

Pretty Little Liars 6.07

Cece is on A team, but is not A. I don’t like the idea of A being someone they have never met. I have always hoped it to be someone we knew right from the pilot episode.

Why do you have a picture of Jason on your phone?
I thought I was gonna open my eyes and be back in Iceland.

6.5/10

Scream 1.04

I am actually starting to like the show, even though people stopped dying, and the episode was not very demanding, which one is though?

3/10

Scream 1.05

The show is very weak, but definetely gives a guilty pleasure wibe.

All I know is right now I’m holding you and he’s not.

Clouds of Sils Maria. Clockwatchers. Manglehorn. Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.

Clouds of Sils Maria

The most misleading trailer in a long time. How many people went to see an affair between the two characters, as the trailer suggested? What we got instead, was reading lines. The only snippets of what we came for, were: the main character deciding to take on the role, after google-ing what her young co-star looks like, and words ‘I’m too vulnerable to do this’, which may be the definition of being afraid of falling for someone. Nevertheless, the film perfectly shows the work of an assistant. Not superficially like other films tend to. I was going to throw The Devil Wears Prada for an example, but I’m backing out, as this is personal assisting, not being a regular assistant at an office. The scenery was dazzling, all the scenes in the mountains were breathtaking. Juliette speaking French in front of Kristen was one of my personal favourite scenes. Despite the unsatisfying resolution of the film, the final scene itself was suiting. Kristen’s role will not beat her performance in Speak, but the again, nothing will.

7/10

Clockwatchers

Speaking of assistants, now a story of four office ladies. We all know what it is like to wait for that clock to finally reach a certain number. It just happens I have an office job, where I sit twelve hours a day, so I am familliar with staring at the clock. The characters, one drinks at work, one is a bulimic actress wanna-be, one makes personal phone calls, and the lead scripes it all down in her notebook. The story centers around a case of missing possessions of co-workers. It gets to a point where the girls’ desks are searched, and since the girls are the only temps at the office, they are the ones everyone suspects. The girls the temps suspect does turn out to be the cleptomaniac. One of a few highlights of the film, the lovely ending, when the main character tricks her boss into writing a recommendation letter for a friend, who’s just been let go off.

7/10

Manglehorn

The script is a mess, many scenes are superlous, everything in the bar with hip hop music, and the massage studio, the son plot felt redundant, two black people singing for no good reason, like we the producers confused the genres, and wanted to make it a musical, but then forgot about the scene and left it in the script. The cat’s surgery and the cat itself did not bring anything to the film. One single metaphor at the very end, when Manglehorn opens the car with an imaginary key. Why is the pseudo son guides the main character to the whorehouse. The accident, that is without a doubt the most interesting and well shot scene is very out of place and does not fit into the plot in any way. How often does an accident happen between a whole traffic jam? The writer and director, again, thought that would be a nice scene, let’s put it in. If all these haven’t scared you off, Holly Hunter’s character asks Al if he wants to take a bath with her after a very awkward first date, emphasais on word ‘date’, not sleepover. Points for the beehive under the mailbox, bring both easthetic and intriguing value to the picture. At least the way the character deals with loss is on point. Anyone else can see themselves being obsessed with someone to the point they hold on to them for years? If you have every been in a relationship in which you idolised your significant other, and kept idolising them after the break up? Then you get it. What else was relatable and made sense was Manglehorn comparing his son to everyone, like many parents tend to do. I have spent most time after seeing the film analising the accident I mentioned above. First of, the cars hit into a watermelon truck, then very importantly, the main character is carrying his soon to be sick cat, and that’s the only hint we get that would mean something. It symbolises fragility of life, and a prediction of the cat’s life and the future of Manglegorn’s son’s company. There is also an earthquake that does not bring anything except for a key to drop from the cabinet. If you sometimes try to find answers on imdb (I know it’s not just me, stop lying), the comments perfectly summed the film up. One and only, unpopular opinion said ‘I love the way it’s structered’, which got zero response. Another one says ‘What’s the rap song from the bar called?’ and if that does not encapsulates the film, nothing will do it better. I know, you think Al Pacino and Holly Hunter, it has to be good, it’s not trust me, I’ve made the same mistake. If only life gave you an imaginary key, so you could let go of whatever that’s holding you back, and find the answers you so desperately need in the process.

‘I am losing hope in tomorrow, it hurts.

4/10

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion

I absolutely adore reunion films. I bet I’m gonna be one of those people who get broken up with just a few weeks before the reunion and will have to show up by myself, my accomplishments will not add up and I’m gonna end up making something up and I’m gonna be one of those losers, oh well, right? Hasn’t this film thought me anything? Romy and Michele made up they invented post its, they pretended they were buisnesswomen, and the one guy who was the biggest loser ends up rich and they all perform one of the weirdest and most awkward (not for them) dances ever caught on film. Romy and Michele are these two Legally Blondes who in comparison to Elle Woods, don’t accomplish anything (but they do in the end). The film is light, and unrealistic to some point, but that’s how we like them.

Here is a new list of the shows I watch in order of how much I care about the characters. Delivery Man. Bad Words. Lemon Tree Passage. The Alphabet Killer.

This week I started watching and then turned off too many films, including The Longest Ride, Sex Ed and almost ten more.

Delivery Man

Vince is believable as a Polish person. This is the second time I see him play a Polish person. Remember when he was a tourist guide on turist bus in The Breakup with Jennifer Aniston? I expected the film to be even more cheesy, so I am satisfied with it.

I had it. I had pitched the perfect game, and I had to screw the whole thing up. My mother saw the whole thing on TV.
She must have been surprised to find out that you had a male lover.
No. She said she always suspected it. She told me we would make a lovely couple.
And your kids?
They think it’s cool.

6/10

Bad Words

What a surprise. I expected it to be filthy and full of bad words film portraying exactly what the poster promised. Instead we got a good enough family film, with funny moments. It surely wasn’t insightful but it was light and that’s all I needed after this especially exhausting week. Even the highly racist nicknames were on point.

Why don’t you take your potty mouth, go locate your pre-teen cock-sucking son and stuff him back up that old blown-out sweat sock of a vagina and scoot off back to whatever shit-kicking town you came from!

5/10

Lemon Tree Passage

You do not really have to be interested in unexplained paranormal things to bump into this urban legend. And I really wish they stuck with it. There might have been a gang rape in Lemon Tree Passage, that was not publicised but they should have went with the legend, like they started. It was promising, up until the point when it shifted from its original course. Despite all that I liked that the film turned all rape and revenge, but what I don’t understand is why did the ghost kill the girl? I get why she would kill men that stopped on the passage, but the girl? Which ever motorcycle incident they would have chosen, we would have went along with it.

5/10

The Alphabet Killer

What a drag. I knew there was a reason I never wanted to watch Wrong Turn saga, this was awful. At it all would have been avoided if they did not make the main character schizophrenic. Horrors are always better when it’s all real. Or at least we might have found it out at the end. It started off so good and so quickly went with flames. The story made me want to watch the other movie based on this story. Isn’t it weird that the killings/rapes stopped? Did the killer change his tactics?

Mostly the job is to ask questions. The frustrating part, the part that drives you crazy, is that the people you really want to talk to are dead.

Why didn’t you tell me you knew the victims?
Because then you would have known that I killed them.

In 2006, police exhumed a fireman’s body and posthumously cleared him as a suspect. To date, the Alphabet Killer has not been found.

A final goodbye to this very special show. After Dirt got cancelled we never would have imagined we’d get to see Courteney do another tv show, and not one of us expected it to be this fun and good. I said it a million times over the last 13 episodes, but I’ll miss our cul-de-sac crew so much. Penny can to you all.

I just finished watching Grace and Frankie, earlier I watched Full House and this week I started The Whispers and Scream. I will write a post on OITNB soon.

Pretty Little Liars 6.03

I hope we’ll get to know A’s identity and they won’t postpone it any longer. And that they won’t lie to us like The Killing writers did.

We made it back and I don’t see a happy ending.

8.5/10

Pretty Little Liars 6.04

What a coincidence with the files just being transferred. Sara is killing someone soon. Charles is living there. The aunt was killed by Charles when the liars were in 10th grade. No one cares why, just get in. Sara is A, as she is Bethany and she knew Charles. He put tracking chips into them.

He was institionalised in Radley.
Because Charles is dead.
He killed himself when he was 16.
I don’t want you going out alone.
There was a 10 minute gap between first and second shift.
My daughter was a patient at Radley, how can I get a hold of her records?
I found her on our roof.
Maybe someone lived there. Charles.
You’re my doll, bitch.
Dye it now or lose it all.
What did I do? What did you make me do?!
A must be somebody Charles knew at Radley.
The room in that place looked exactly like this.

6.5/10

Pretty Little Liars 6.05

Whats with the lame dance? So A is a girl. That we’ve never met. Great. Mona’s scared? Aria’s obsession with dolls. Since when? Please don’t let A be Cece. I want to be surprised. Let me guess, Aria is going to win the competition. Oh if only life was that easy. Teaching position? Isn’t Leslie liars’ age? Clark better not be A. Why is Sara only 17? So Leslie is A? I still think Sara is Bethany.

Bad behavior has a way of catching up to you.
You would know.
Clark may have taken a picture of A.
It’s not a cover. It’s minimum wage and you start tomorrow.
A is a girl?!
I saw her too.
There’s someone across the street in a hoodie.
Leslie Stone was in Radley?
She was roomates with Bethany Young.

4.5/10

The Whispers 1.01

Lily Rabe finally got her own show. Revenge’s Aiden is on it. Steven Spielberg is producing. It’s less of a horror, more of a sci-fi, but I’m still liking it. I never read the short story it’s based on. The series also stars Jess from Gilmore Girls. I am sad we won’t get to see much of The Whispers as Lily Rabe getting her own show is the best thing that happened to us since we met her in AHS.

X marks the spot. You’re supposed to step on it.
The game isn’t done yet, he’s looking for a new friend.
Yeah, I’d like to play.
Thank you for fixing me. Goodnight, Drill, I love you.

5/10

The Whispers 1.02

Trying to understand a sci-fi film is not easy, when you’ve been a sceptic your whole life. I did love Lost though and I did watch V, so I should be just fine.

I can’t wait to meet him.

2.5/10

The Whispers 1.03

The scene when the hostage gives the salesman Claire’s card and he actually understands what to do with it is pretty impressive. Also, awkward ex-lover/husband/wife moments are enjoyable to watch.

He’s alive. Sean is alive.
He’s my husband.
That’s an account.
Each of the kids claims to have an imaginary friend called Drill.
Clair, Minx got a friend called Drill.
Like a maze.

5/10

The Whispers 1.04

The tension between Claire and Wes is incredible to follow. Fantastic episode, best so far.

Let me go, Wes.
He can’t hear you. He can’t understand you!
Stop hurting him!
Henry, can you hear me?
But it was supposed to be a secret between me and Drill.

8/10

The Whispers 1.05

And the disapointment begins, what a weak episode.

I have nothing. No memories, no past.

1/10

The Whispers 1.06

Good episode and we finally got to see Drill.

You can’t tell me?
We’re all vulnerable.
What’s he doing to my son?!
He likes you. He says you can play.
Claire, I remember. I remember everything.

6/10

Scream 1.01

As a guge fan of the Scream series I fecided to give it a chance, and it honestly does not look too good. I am only interested in the main character’s mother’s story, but I’ll watch it. Bullet from the third season of The Killing stars and the guy who filmed killing his victims and died just before Amanda had a chance to disarm his on SVU.

Out doors speakers on.
Maybe you’ll make more views than Aubrey.
Heads up.
Calling Pottery Barn.
Maybe Aubrey will Taylor Swift her anger and put it into something creative.
I need gore details.
Some guys like sports, I like serial killers.
Nobody ever knew who she was.
Do you think one kegg is enough?
It’s like the perfect slasher setting.

6/10

Scream 1.02

How can I not follow a show that respects self harm and gay women.

Your dad is a solo survivor of the Brandon James killings?
She was a cutter?
Yeah, she had issues with depression.
I mean Rachel had some issues.
What? Cutting?

I heard the rumor that Greys’ Denny is coming to the show and he’s going to be the new Kalinda, and I’m very excited. This season sucked. It reminds me of season one when we didn’t have Alan Cumming and the cases were dull and with no promise. I hope we can’t get past the whole Bishop storyline and just move on. I hope Alicia and Canning form a new firm. I hope they show us lots of Alan and they keep his awkward daughter. I hope Grace gets a life. She didn’t have one storyline this whole season. They took the son away, but at least we know he and his young girlfriend aborted a child a few years back. I hope Diane has a great case every episode. And finally that Cary moves on quick and starts acting like a lawyer again. He hasn’t fought a single case this season.

Welcome to ReviewThisFilm

This website started in 2010 as weekly reviews of movies and tv episodes, and a diary of the 700 new films I watched every year. Today it’s a place for me to write a few words on films and tv shows that leave some sort of impact on me. I no longer write in depth reviews, mostly thanks to bad habits gained by spending many hours a day on Letterboxd.

If you have a film you would like me to watch and review,  please leave a comment.

Enjoy!

– Joanne

About the Author

All I do is watch movies, the good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes I make my own.

Check out my latest film (120K+ views on Youtube):

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP3Iz23hD7M

I’ve seen over 6000 films and 220 TV shows. I have a degree in Film Production, and wrote my dissertation on Italian neorealism. I mostly gravitate towards social issues films, anything Ken Loach, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica or Jafar Panahi, etc.

I rate films within genre. I watch a lot of films on Mubi, Filmbox Arthouse. My favourite directors are Yasujiro Ozu, Ken Loach, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Zhang Yimou, Roberto Rossellini, Ingmar Bergman, Brian De Palma, Vittorio De Sica and Andrzej Wajda. My favourite actresses have always been Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. I’m nostalgic and reminisce a lot. I’m at the cinema 10 times a month. And I’m a Polish-British millennial.

I will watch anything:

psychological | arthouse | foreign | independent | drama | horror | lgbt | strong female characters | female centred films | dysfunctional families | sexual assault | troubled childhood | mental health issues

About me

I am the dark and twisty Meredith Grey, the mad Dexter Morgan, hoping to grow up to be a little more like the wise, but fun Nora Walker. I am an aspiring filmmaker. My favorite actresses are Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. Favorite genre – psychological drama. I watch anything with a sexual or mental abuse plot. I used to be a horror freak. I am obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, SVU and many more. My other interests include making oil and pencil portraits and wildlife conservation. I cannot say no to beautiful landscapes, travel, Aussie accent, TV/film quotes and avocados. I have recently moved back from Australia to the UK. I’ve been running this blog for the last 9 years. Here I comment on films and episodes I watch. Enjoy! – Joanne

favourite film and tv quotes

‘When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I used to sit in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I’ve met you and moved to Sydney, I haven’t listened to one Abba song. That’s because my life is as good as an Abba song. It’s as good as Dancing Queen.’ (Muriel’s Wedding)

‘I used to think about
your life in New York. I tried to imagine your room. I kept track of the time difference, so I  knew when you were awake and when you were asleep.’ (Disobedience)

‘Nothing’s clean, Howard. But we do our best, right?’ (The Aviator)

‘No, I’m not quitting. I don’t quit things.’
‘No, actually you do. Your mother quit your father. Your father quit you. You quit your boyfriend and if I read your hospital chart correctly you quit your life momentarily on a couple of occasions. You quit. It’s what you know how to do.’ (Greys)

‘Where the hell was I that year?’
‘Your were watching television’. (Everybody Loves Raymond)

‘It’s impossible to worry about anything else when there’s blood coming out of you.’
(Short Term 12)

‘I wanted it to happen. And when we were girls… Even then, it was the same. It’s always been this way! I have always wanted it.’ (Disobedience)

‘Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a moment when our lives change forever. The moment we admit our weaknesses, the moment we rise to a challenge, the moment we accept a sacrifice, or let a loved one go. And sometimes the change in our lives is an answer to our prayers.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Yesterday I went to the movies all day by myself. One after the other. I’ve never done that before. I had a really happy day.’ (Doing Time for Patsy Cline)

‘I just need something to happen. I need a sign that things are going to change. I need a reason to go on. I need some hope. And in the absence of hope, I need to stay in bed a feel like I might die today.’ (Greys)

‘She saved me my whole life. Without her, I’m nothing.’ (The Favourite)

‘Many years ago, a neighbour and a good friend of ours took her life, and that left us all heartbroken and perplexed. But somehow, when I was alone in that hotel room, I forget about all the pain that she caused. In those awful moments, I thought maybe she had the answer.‘ (Desperate Housewives)

‘I was trying to save a patient!’
‘Why is it that every other person in that room had the sense to hit the deck? You know people run away from this line between life and death. You seem to stand on it and wait for a strong wind to sway you one way or the other. You’re careless with your life. You’re not slitting your wrists but you’re careless. Probably because your mother told you you were a waste of space on this planet. The problem is you believed her. And if you don’t want out one of these days you’re going to die because of it.’  (Greys)

‘This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in. And I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future. And quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn’t see coming, but that’s really the point. Don’t you think?’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Was your life not working when you let that slip out from under you?’
‘When are you going to stop suggesting that I’m suicidal?’
‘When you start acting like someone that wants to be alive.’
‘Give me my chart.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I’m not suicidal, and if it says that I am, then it’s wrong.’ (Greys)

‘There is nothing wrong with me.’
‘Then show me your arm.’ (Degrassi)

‘Look, my whole life, I have been the freak. The girl who nobody picked for dodgeball. The girl who didn’t have a mom. The girl who dressed funny because it was her dad buying her clothes. And then, tonight I looked at these people, and I thought maybe there’s a future where I don’t have to be a freak. Maybe I can be who I am and that’s okay.’ (Everything Sucks)

‘Dr, I have been this way since…since I can remember. There is no cure.’ (American Horror Story)

‘He was so crazy about me, I couldn’t breathe. So we tried drinking our way back into love, but it never made sense in the morning. So I ran. And every time I came back, he was here. And he was still crazy about me.’ (My Blueberry Nights)

‘Bree van de Kamp had always wanted to live her life with elegance and grace. That is also how she wanted to die. Her plan was to pour herself a glass of her favorite chardonnay, put on her most stylish nightgown and leave behind a note on embossed stationery.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘All we have is this moment. The future is just a fucking concept that we use to avoid being alive today. So be… here…. now.’ (Six Feet Under)

‘On the train coming here, we were in the same cart, I saw you, you were reading and you feel asleep. I didn’t dare to look at you, you were so beautiful, it was scary. Afterwards,  I couldn’t stop thinking about you. It made me smile. Then I thought of all the men who would get to hold you, who’d make you laugh. How lucky they were.’ (Enemy at the Gates)

‘It was a good day. Maybe even a great day. Even when it was hard, I was the me in my head. There was a moment when I thought I cant do this, I cant do this alone. I close my eyes and imagine myself doing it, and I did, I blocked out the fear, and I did it.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a time when we must expose our weaknesses. When our secrets can no longer remain private, when our solitude can no longer be denied, when our pain can no longer be ignored, but sometimes we feel so alone that a weakness we thought we’d overcome suddenly becomes too strong to fight.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Why did you get married, Esti? Why didn’t you just leave? So everything was all right when I left?’
‘No. I was ill.’
‘What sort of ill?’
‘In my head.’
‘If I had to sleep with a man, why not with our best friend?’
‘Oh, Esti…’
‘It hasn’t been a complete disaster.’
‘And that’s enough?! Do you have to have sex every Friday?’
‘It’s expected.’
‘It’s medieval. What happened to you?’
‘Nothing. You happened to me. And then I started teaching and that became important. I give them ambition.’
‘To do what? Push out seven babies and be a good wife?’
‘Don’t. Don’t. I help them to value themselves.’
‘Okay, but what about you?’
‘That is me. And you? Are you happy?’
‘Yes, I am.’
‘Have you been with other women?’
‘No. Not really. And you?’
‘No.’
‘But, Esti… Do you still
only fancy women?’ (Disobedience)

‘OK, then, listen. Let’s not get caught.’
‘What are you talkin’ about?’
‘Let’s keep goin’!’
‘What d’you mean?’
‘Go.’
‘You sure?’
‘Yeah. Yeah.’ (Thelma & Louise)

‘She let me live at Nora’s house. She let me believe that I was a part of their family. I fell in love with that family. What am I supposed to do, just sit there, pretend I’m related to them? I was happy. For the first time in my life I was happy.’ (Brothers and Sisters)

‘You will be left all alone with your bitterness and your rage and your knowledge that you loved her and she loved you and you threw it away for them.’
‘Do you love her?’
‘Yes.’
‘And Have you always?’
‘Yes.’
‘So then ask her.’
‘Olive, will you forgive me?’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘No razors, no scissors, no fucking freedom.’
(Short Term 12)

‘You can’t take a picture of this. It’s already gone.’ (Six Feet Under)
