This year I’ve given up a few shows. I was struggling to find time to watch them, I wasn’t head over heels about the characters, so I’ve made an executive decision to cut down my loses. Shows I followed last year, but don’t anymore: The Rookie, Seal Team, The Good Doctor and Mr. Mercedes.

To see my review of 2018, click on the following link: https://joanneholly.com/2018/12/30/tv-shows-of-2018/

Last year I followed 41 shows, this year, 50.

Below are the 50 TV shows I followed this year:

1. Grey’s Anatomy

I am still sad about Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew being written off. I have mixed feelings about the show allegedly ending after season 17. Greys hasn’t been ‘Greys good’ since Season 9 and yet it’s still my favourite and it will always stay that way. Season 16 so far focuses on the crime Meredith commited last season, the insurance fraud. It’s quite surprising how this storyline mirrors the Varsity Blues scandal. Mer has done a lot of community hours and has spent a night in jail. From the looks of the midseason finale, that’s all behind us now. They have sent Betty away at the end of season 15 and she hasn’t been back to visit since. I am glad Teddy is back and I hope she never leaves. Avery is slowly becoming the most annoying character, changing his mind when it comes to relationships. Still no development on Helm and her crush on Meredith, we’ll see where they go with this. Is Helm going to be with Karina by the end of the season? I am not a fan of splitting the staff between Grey Sloan and the second hospital, but I’m guessing Grey Sloan will buy the new undeveloped one and then merge the two?

2. SVU

Season 21 and we’re making history! I just love this show. Carissi is now an ADA, and we have a new detective I’m not fond off. Fall season ended on a cliffhanger featuring Amanda and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

3. Shameless

Shameless started quite late this year, and without Emmy Rossum. Ian is back and the show is still the same, and still as exciting as ever. I’m really disappointed with how Debbie is spending the 50 grand she got from Fiona and how Frank messed it all up for her. I really thought she would ensure the money lasts them a year or two. I’m happy with how the rest of the Gallagher’s lifes are going, including the fact that Lip is now a dad!

4. Fuller House

I’m sad it’s the show’s last season. The nostalgia Fuller House brought in 2014, was something I never thought I needed. 2019 wasn’t a good year for this Full House fan. If I wasn’t a Full House fan, I wouldn’t be going through a heartbreak this year. Aunt Becky was why I got so invested in the show. Season 1 wasn’t really a family show, the three main characters kept sleeping around and other than two or three episodes, the show was boring. From the minute Aunt Becky showed up, the show got interesting. Years later, as a teenager, I watched The New Kids, and became a Lori Loughlin fan and followed every single one of her projects.

5. Carol’s Second Act

Patricia Heaton is back on my TV screen, so everything’s going to be okay. I miss The Middle, and I think my mum misses it even more. It also stars Twin Peak’s Kyle MacLachlan. Carol’s Second Act is a sitcom, and even though it’s nowhere near as good as The Middle, or Everybody Loves Raymond, it’s still a funny show and a great way to spend the 20 minutes a week.

6. American Horror Story

Sarah Paulson wasn’t back for this awful season, at least she’s shooting another two Ryan Murphy shows, Ratched and season 3 of American Crime Story, so at least there’s something to look out for. American Horror Story used to be one of my favourite shows, but sadly this season is extremely weak, everyone was dead by episode 5 and everyone was a ghost by episode 5 as well! I liked the aerobic sequences in the very first episode. I really thought it would be a Friday the 13th type of slasher like the promos suggested.

7. Crikey it’s the Irwins

This show is a delight! Nothing will stop me from revisiting Australia Zoo every time I go to Australia on a holiday. As a vegan of 9 years, I should stand against all zoos, but this series proves all the good zoos do for animal conservation. Even though guests visit, Australia Zoo is really a giant sanctuary. In the second season the Irwins are preparing for Australia Zoo’s 50th anniversary, by renovating the croc enclousure. In order to get the contractors in, they need to move all the crocs, including the biggest and the most aggressive crocs in the zoo. A beloved zebra from season 1 needs to be put down, and Terri goes back to her hometown Oregon to visit a wildlife sanctuary were her cougar Malina spent her final years. Bindi gets engaged and I just hope they show us the wedding when the show comes back for season 3. I also wish there were more episodes in the season.

8. Orange is the New Black

It ended and there will never be a show so raw and brilliant. I cannot even begin to explain what an important place this show has in my heart. Every time I hear someone say they don’t like the show because it mainly has women in it or when they say they’re not going to watch the show because of all the gay characters, I feel personally offended. I am still tearing up thinking of Dockett’s tragic end. I also hate what they’ve done to Red, Lorna and Maritza. Some pars of the ending made me happy though, for example the fact that Alex is back with her crew. I still wish they had shown us more of Big Boo and other original characters.

9. When Calls the Heart

I will never get over the fact that Abigail is not coming back. And Cody, the Culkin lookalike was taken off the show because of the Lori Loughlin scandal too. I will keep watching as long as Rosemary is there. I’ve watched 2 episodes of When the Heart Calls, the web series spin off about the orphanage a few towns from Hope Valley, but I didn’t like it at all. I’ve gotten used to the two new male characters. I doubt Netflix will add the new season to its selection, as they’ve always done it around October time.

10. Station 19

Season two was alright, but season 3 was delayed until 2020. The show’s creator left to pursue something else, which is quite odd as she’s only done 2 seasons, so from next year the show will be ran by Krista Vernoff who has been running Grey’s Anatomy, after Shonda Rhimes’s departure. One of the characters is now a quest star on Greys.

11. The Handmaid’s Tale

I even got my mom into this show! And Christopher Meloni was in 2 or 3 episodes, playing a role completely opposite from his SVU’s Elliott Stabler, a rapist! Alexis Bledel’s character got a satisfying ending, and the scene where Canadian border police officers ask her whether she’s going to be in danger if she was to be sent back to her country and she says yes, this is simply my favourite scene of the entire 2019.

12. One Day At a Time

After a quite boring season 3, and Netflix’s cancellation, the show was saved by POP and will be returning in 2020! I am still not a fan of the annoying girlfriend, but everything this shows says about immigration, PTSD and LGTBQ issues is on point.

13. The Insatiable

Season 2 differed from season 1 in the most important way, it focused on the main character, Patty’s binge eating disorder. Patty joins Overeaters Anonymous and learns the cause of her addiction to food. Yes, it’s still crazy when it comes to her psychotic behaviour resulting in murdering people, but most of the season is about her BED, and that makes it interesting.

14. The Unbelievable

A TV show about a girl who thinks she’s been raped, comes forward, and then revokes her statement, 5 times. Then two lady cops try to solve a series of rapes and eventually come across the main character’s statement. Netflix’s best show of 2019, it’s just amazing and Short Term 12 and Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever delivers a beautiful performance.

15. Big Little Lies

The show came back after 2 years, to finish what it started, it was better than season 1 because we didn’t have to sit through hours of sex and abuse.

16. Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

This show was a hit for me. I’ve only learned about it in February, and watched all 3 seasons in two weeks. I’ve since read Leah Remini’s book ‘Troublemaker’. I am really sad to see this show go, it’s extremely informative and brings hope to victims of Scientology. It’s my favourite discovery of 2019.

17. The Goldbergs

It’s still good, but it feels like they have run out of nostalgic 80s memorbilia last season.

18. Schooled

Lanie’s spin off is now in its second season. It’s not as good as The Goldbergs, but It’s only 20 minutes a week, which makes it watchable. AJ and Aly Michalka released a single last summer, that was undoubtedly my song of summer 2019. It’s called Church and it’s amazing.

19. How to Get Away with Murder

Thank goodness it’s the last season. The first 3 seasons were great, but anything from season 4 has been bad. Someone’s killed Annalise? What was the point of the series then?

20. Killing Eve

I still haven’t caught up with season 2 fully, but I’ve been a fan of Jodie Colmer since ‘Thirteen’.

21. Ozark

My dad’s favourite show. Julia Garner is killing it every single episode. Where’s season 3?

22. Good Girls

Beth and the dealer hooked up, and Season 2 was quite different, but still entertaining.

23. Thirteen Reasons Why

I loved the first 2 seasons, but this was a mess. Why introduce a new character, and give them ALL screen time?

24. This is Us

3 more seasons yes please! I am just not okay with the writers telling us about Rebecca’s death so early in the series.

25. 911

Never disappoints with the drama, I mean the freaking tsunami blew my mind!

26. The Resident

I think I am okay with whom they killed off in the first episode, but this season introduced us to a new doctor that’s an even more arrogant copy of the new doctor they introduced last season.

27. Modern Family

Final season is here and it’s just as mediocre as everything else after season 3.

28. For the People

Sadly this Shondaland show starring Britt Robertson has been cancelled. I feel like I was the only one watching it.

29. Chernobyl

A mini docuseries from HBO everyone loves, and rightfully so.

30. Riverdale

I’m just not into it anymore. I liked season 1 and that’s it. I liked the Luke Perry tribute, but I haven’t had the time to watch all of it.

31. The Simpsons

Awesome as always. Sixty seasons should be enough for me.

32. The Good Fight

I still haven’t caught up.

33. The Good Place

They keep resetting the afterlife and it’s all the same at this point.

34. Veronica Mars

I’m just happy they didn’t kill Keith Mars, and I like the noir aspects of this season.

35. Absentia

I still haven’t fully caught up, I will update once I do.

36. F For Family

It’s a funny show and I cannot wait for season 4. I wish the main character still worked at the airport, all this vending machine business wasn’t very entertaining.

37. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

I like it when it’s darker, but I just cannot stand Kiernan’s wig.

38. Divorce

The Sarah Jessica Parker show has ended and the ending surprised me. I will miss the dark humour.

39. Younger

The secret is out, Liza’s secret was exposed and she no longer has to hide. I’m a fan of Liza and Charles, but this wasn’t a good season. Kelsey makes a dumb social media mistake and gets demoted from publisher back to editor. Diana gets married. The Irish girlfriend’s baby storyline doesn’t give immigrants a good rep.

40. When They See Us

I watched it for Vera Farmiga and I knew about this case from Law and Order: Special Vicitms Unit.

41. Looking For Alaska

I used to know this girl who was obssesed with this book and always said Looking For Alaska is John Green’s best work. I haven’t read the book, so I can just rate the story for what the show is. As a child of immigrants, who don’t speak the language, I related to one of the characters. Sometimes the pressure of your family’s livelihood depending on you is too much. I know it’s got to me a few times when I had to figure out what to do in stressful situations I wouldn’t have been in had i known my family was safe and happy among their own. Acting as a translator for your family can have damaging effects on you, when your family’s health andlivelihood is at stake.

42. Dead to Me

‘Married With Children’ ‘s Christina Applegate and ‘Freaks and Geek’s Linda Cardelini return to TV in this dramedy about a woman who befriends her hit and run victim’s wife. Great acting from both, I’m really sad Linda didn’t get a Golden Globe nomination for her prformance.

43. Soundtrack

Madeleine Stowe is back! I remember when she retired back in the early 2000s and I kept checking up on her non existent projects while she was retired on her Texas ranch. Thankfully she returned to acting and starred in Revenge, portraying one of the best characters on television. When Revenge ended in 2015 I thought, well that’s it, she’s gonna go back to her retirement, but she didn’t! She just took a 4 year break and now she’s back! It looks like Madeleine’s husband, Dream On and Private Practice’s Brian Benben is currently on a break himself. Anyway, I’m a huge fan, and could talk about Madeleine’s filmography for hours.

Soundtrack, originally called Mixtape, is a new Netflix show about stars Madeleine Stowe, Jenna Dewan (is this why she left The Resident?) and Gradfathered’s Christina Millian.

The pilot episode has a depressing ‘This is Us’ twist. Jenna Dewan’s character’s name is Joanna (heck yes!) and she’s a dancer. Above I mention how watching season 2 of The Resident made me think of Step Up every single episode. To see Jenna’s character’s dance audition sequence to a Kelly Clarkson song of all artists, satisfied my 2006 Step Up obsession, and she dances in this show, a lot. The show features a lot of cool mash ups, and includes songs from Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Duffy, Demi Lovato to so many different genres and I will be rewatching the dance sequences a lot. I was really looking forward to seeing Marcia Cross when I noticed this title was added to her filmography on IMDB, but she only lends her voice to a character that’s a supporting’s character’s mother and only has one short conversation with that character, over the phone.

There’s going to be a similar show starting next month, called Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist starring Jane Levy and Lauren Graham, that I just cannot wait to start watching.

‘Every song is a love song’.

‘This is breathtaking, why would you ever give this up?’

44. The Politician

You know I’ll watch anything from the Murphy/Falchuk duo. It’s an average show, my least favourite from them, even lower on my list than Scream Queens. I don’t like how they used a porodied version of Gypsy Blanchard’s story in the show. We’ve seen in in The Act this year and The Act is not only an incredible mini series, but it’s also respectful and true to the story. The Politician’s secret weapon is, same as with American Horror Story, the marvelous Jessica Lange, so you know I’m gonna watch it. Speaking of the Murphy/Falchuk universe, I cannot believe we need to wait until September 2020 for American Crime Story to return.

45. The Act

A beautiful mini series about the tragic Gypsy Blanchard story with incredible performances from Joey King and Patricia Arquette. It’s my second favourite mini series of the year and eagerly waited for next episode every week.

46. The Morning Show

This Apple show starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston focuses on a made up news show, and the behind the scenes sexual harassment. It’s clearly inspired by the Fox scandal, but it’s different from The Loudest Voice. In the last episode Jennifer’s character loses it and exposes everything, it’s a superb episode I’m happy there’s going to be season 2.

47. The Society

A modern Lord of the Flies meets Lost. I enjoyed this show the minute Kathryn Newton’s character executed one of the other characters.

48. Light as a Feather

I have been following Liana Liberato’s career since ‘Trust’. It’s not a good series, but it’s eight 20 minute episodes, and there are worse ways to spend your weekend.

49. Grace and Frankie

A brilliant show from the creators of Friends. I’ve been watching it since it came out back in 2016 and can’t get enough of it! Can’t wait for January when the show’s back!

50. The Loudest Voice

No way Bombshell is going to be half this good. Best friends Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts ended up playing the same character this year, Gretchen Carlson. Showtime’s The Loudest Voice is a 7 episode series about the Fox News sexual harassment.

Shows I need to catch up on (to some extent):

How to Get Away With Murder
Killing Eve
This is Us
Riverdale
Absentia
The Good Fight
Gentleman Jack
I Am the Night

I think Hollywood Darlings has been cancelled? There’s no news online, but there were no episodes released this year and Jodie Sweetin is now doing this podcast I don’t listen to.

I hope you enjoyed this post. One of my resolutions for 2020 is to go back to reviewing TV shows on a weekly basis, because I’ve caught myself a few times trying to remember the episode something happened in and had to google it every time. Had I stuck to reviewing episodes week by week, I would have quickly looked it up here.

Have a wonderful 2020!
Jo

Yet another year is coming to an end. It was a year rich in TV Shows. The below is a list of shows I followed and cared about this year. I haven’t done weekly episode reviews all year, so below is a little sum up of what I thought of each show. There were honestly so many of them, I just couldn’t find time for weekly posts. These are the 41 shows I followed in 2018.

  1. Greys

I miss Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew. No bigger mistake has ever been made on Greys than writers getting rid of Arizona. I am happy Geena Davis’s character came back for her and offered her a job. They brought one of my favorite characters, Teddy, back just to ruin her life. New season welcomed Chris McCormick, Nashville alum and the first half of the season entirely revolved around Meredith’s love life.

  1. SVU

I honestly hope SVU never ends, because these cases will never lose its importance and I will gladly follow Mariska chasing rapists in her 60s and 70s.

  1. Shameless

This season wasn’t shameless at all. Carl’s wife was annoying, but I cannot believe they killed her off and no one is bothered. I’m glad they brought Courteney Cox for an episode, and Peggy Bundy for a few. I really hope Katey Segal is coming back in January. Speaking of the Bundys, I feel like watching some Married with Children reruns.

  1. Fuller House

Netflix made us wait a full year for season 4 and then they didn’t promote the show at all. I didn’t even get an email notification about new episodes being up. I love everything the Fuller-Tanner-Gibbler family does. I love all their games and special events. I will never be a parent, but it’s my dream to be DJ Tanner and organise all these fun events and days out with people I love. I love how DJ is always on her 100 percent, a perfectionist, always nicely dressed and ready for an adventure. It’s exactly how my mom is, I could never wear makeup and nice clothes every day, especially on my days off. Maybe it has something to do with being a parent or actually being around people.

  1. The Middle

One of my favorite family shows ended, but it looks like Eden Sher has been given a spin-off. I hope they get Patricia Heaton to visit her a lot.

  1. American Horror Story

I liked this season, but then again I will always be happy with this show as long as Sarah Paulson is still doing it.

  1. The Goldbergs

Speaking of spin offs, The Goldbergs is getting one, Schooled will premiere next year and it will revolve around Lanie. I was not happy that they recast Adam’s girlfriend, instead of getting him a new one. I hope Barry and Lanie do get married.

  1. How to Get Away with Murder

I hated season 4, because it revolved around Laurel and her messed up family, that did not bring anything to the storyline, but season 5 focuses on Bonnie and I’ve been enjoying it a lot.

  1. Sharp Objects

Incredible series about self-harm based on an amazing book. It’s rarely ever that self-harm addiction is shown that realistically. Sharp Objects is one of the most relatable things I’ve come across and I wish this series was around when I was fifteen. It also has a jaw dropping twist in the very last 5 seconds.

  1. Killing Eve

My dad cannot stop saying that Cristina Yang lied to us when she said she’s moving to Switzerland, and moved to London to join MI5 instead. This series starring Thirteen’s Jodie Colmer is a ‘killer’.

  1. Ozark

A money laundering show starring Laura Linney, yes please! My dad loves this show.

  1. Good Girls

Another show my dad loved. And It’s about money laundering as well. I never cared much for Mad Men, I liked it, but it was too ‘manly’ for me, but Christina Hendricks is amazing in this and Mae Whitman also stars.

  1. Thirteen Reasons Why

Say what you want, this season was almost as good as the first one, and it wasn’t too explicit. I’m not sure where I stand on how they ended this season, but I do agree that the shooting would have been too traumatizing for teenagers. I didn’t like that Hannah had a boyfriend prior to what happened in the bath tub in season one. They portrayed her as this innocent, never-had-a-boyfriend type in season one and then they ruined it in season two. Clay was supposed to be the only person that loved her, and there was someone else. I liked her boyfriend though, and I got used to the relationship, and thought it was cute by the end, so I guess it evens itself out.

  1. This is Us

In a way I lost interest the minute we learned how Jack died. It was quite brutal and I honestly don’t think there’s anything else there left to tell. I loved how they showed Tess and what she ends up doing with her life in the future.

  1. 911

Can Connie just relax and stick to one show? I loved her on Nashville and Friday Night Lights, and AHS Murder House as well, so I was happy when she joined 911, starring opposite Parenthood and Six Feet Under’s Peter Krause. I am not enjoying this season as much, but the first one was amazing.

  1. The Resident

Revenge, Brothers and Sisters and Everwood’s Emily VanCamp stars next to Gilmore Girls and The Good Wife’s Matt Chuchry in this medical drama. I am disappointed that many of the cases look like they were copied straight off Grey’s Anatomy. In season one Emily’s character Nick, was trying to bring an abusive doctor down, season 2 lacks this leading plot. Jenna Dewan joined the cast and every time I see her on the screen, my mind authomatically goes to Step Up.

  1. Crikey it’s the Irwins

I just love this show. I have followed the Irwins since late 90s, back when Crocodile Hunter was on TV. Steve Irwin’s death broke my heart. The Irwins live in Steve’s dad’s Australia Zoo and continue his legacy as wildlife conservationists.

  1. When Calls the Heart

What a year it was for the Hearties. Daniel Lissing has been absent through most of season 5 and then quit altogether, so they had to kill him off. The winter episode didn’t lack the usual sweetness of the show, but It wasn’t as good as previous episodes.

  1. Modern Family

Everything after season 3 has been mediocre, but I’m still sticking with it.

  1. For the People

I have been following Britt Robertson’s career for 8 years now, while Girlboss wasn’t her big break, neither will this be. I still love this Shondaland show and can’t wait for season 2.

  1. Scandal

I just hated what happened to David, it ruined the series for me.

  1. Riverdale

Season one was amazing, season two was average, but ended well, and I really hope season 3 will have an actual killer, and it will not go all supernatural on us. I like the darker, illuminati vibe, but now that we’ve seen Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, we don’t need it anymore.

  1. The Simpsons

I honestly hope The Simpsons has 60 seasons, I love the school and family episodes, and hate all the sci-fi. I wish they only stuck to those.

  1. The Good Fight

Season 2 was all over the place, are we even getting a third season?

  1. The Good Place

Everyone seems to be loving this show and I find it average and haven’t even been following this season.

  1. The Good Doctor

Same as with The Resident, we’ve seen all this on Greys and some cases are coincidentaly similiar. I haven’t caught up with season two yet.

  1. Hollywood Darlings

It’s fun, but I don’t think it’ll be getting a third season. You never know though, as they’ve added it on Netflix earlier this month.

  1. F For Family

Not as good as previous seasons, but it’s still a nice way to spend 6 hours.

  1. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

I do like the darker bits and Miranda Otto’s character.

30. Nashville

I miss it already, sadly it was never the same after Connie left. Lennon Stella now has a music career, and I still wish the Stella sisters continued as a duo.

31. Station 19

I love this one, it’s not brilliant, but I have the exact stable opinion on it every single week.

32. Younger

I loved Sex and the city and it’s been 20 years that I’ve wanted to live in New York, so it’s always a blast to see a little more of city life, even though it’s clearly gone to poop. I still like the same characters and hate the ones I hated in season 1. I am so happy about Liza and Charles, they should be together.

33. The Handmaid’s Tale

I liked the first season more.

34. One Day At a Time

I love this show, Elena’s story is amazing and I love all characters.

35. The Insatiable

This Netflix comedy staring Jessie’s Debby Ryan was a bit psycho, but I liked it anyway.

36. Divorce

The Sarah Jessica Parker comedy. It’s funny and I’m waiting for season 3.

37. Absentia

Stana Katic centred show about a cop that gets kidnapped, is stuck in a fish bowl and is waterboarded. All leads to a childhood mystery and It will be back for season 2.

38. Orange is the New Black

I just love this show and have followed it since day 1. I’m not that said about Daya’s punishment, but It’s awful what they’ve done to Red and Tasha.

39. Schooled

A spin off of The Goldbergs. Lanie abandoned her rock star dreams and become a high school teacher.

40. Grace and Frankie

I just love this show, and was scared it ended when Grace and Frankie were sent away to a retirement home at the end of last.

41. Light as a Feather

Girls play Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board and fall victims of a curse, as something wicked attaches itself to the spine of one.

911, absentia, greys, greys anatomy, how to get away with murder, htgawm, modern family, reviews, scandal, the good doctor, the good fight, the middle, tv, tv review, tv reviews, tv series, tv show reviews, when calls the heart

I haven’t been reviewing and adding my notes on TV shows I watch, because I am disappointed with every single one of them. Yes, even Shameless, SVU and Greys. The three shows still on air I swear by. Absolutely nothing is going on an it upsets me and makes it pointless for me to rate the show and give each episode a lousy 2/10. The show I am most disappointed with this season is Modern Family. There was one good episode, but for the love of God, the other 10 were disastrous. I am no longer interested in what any of these characters are doing. The Middle is in its final season and instead of going out with a bang, it’s going out with a… yawn. Shameless, so Ian is the gay Jesus now, and Debby lost 3 toes. That is it. Even Frank did not do anything interesting. Carl has a wife now and he’s been goody-goody all season. Grey’s, sweet old Grey’s. I am happy that Meredith got the Harper Avery award, but nothing else happened all half season. SVU, they cast Brooke Shields and instead of keeping her as Olivia’s friend, they have her kidnap Noah.

Greys 14.10

After four of her patients die, April loses her faith in God. She also runs into her ‘one that got away’, the paramedic she left at the altar back in season 9.

2/10

Greys 14.11

Bailey has a heart attack and fights for herself.

4/10

Greys 14.12

The big competition is here and the entire episode is a snoozeville.

2/10

Greys 4.13

A-freaking-mazing! They introduced the lead from the new Shondaland show Station 19 and I like her already! Ben was written off Greys and we saw him driving off in an ambulance. Ellen looked liked her season 2 baby self with that pink lipstick in the ambulance scene! The Asian intern took her hijab off to stop the kid’s leg from bleeding!

You look twelve. Can you find a grown up to tell her that.
Do not move your hand!
See, grown ups!
Can’t believe this project has not been founded!

9/10

When Calls the Heart 5.01

Some crook seller tried to kill little Opal with arsenic! Can we stop pretending that Abigail and Henry are not meant for each other? Are they actually trying to write our favorite villain off? I say this every episode, but Rosemary is just an extraordinary character. I usually cannot stand happy characters, but watching any scenes with her affects my mood. Elizabeth’s perky sister is back and she wants to be Elizabeth’s apprentice. Lee is left in charge of the town. There is something clearly wrong with Elizabeth’s wig and it’s almost as annoying. I still don’t trust or like Jesse. He’s a tool and Clara better leave him for good. There’s also a virus spreading, it all turns out to be the fault of some magical tonic, that even clears acne. Lori Loughlin runs into another Garage Sale Mystery co-star, who plays Henry Gowen’s defence attorney.

I need to leave someone in charge as acting sheriff.
So you’re testifying for the defence and you’re testifying for
prosecution.
Rosemary did chilli last week, and I was sick for four days.
Where is your badge?
For all the bad things that I’ve done, I must have done something right.
Why is that?
Because for some odd reason that I don’t understand, you still seem to believe in me.
Someone stole my wagon.
Lee! Go!
I don’t want you chasing horse thieves all through the night.
I took his wagon and I hid it in the woods.
Julie is trying to steal Jesse away from Clara.
And I don’t gossip, cause I don’t gossip.
Besides I heard that Clara and Jesse broke up.
Well, who’s gossiping now.
Elizabeth, telegram for you.
Lee, what’s going on.
I had to arrest him.
Michael, I need you too.
No, same cell.
You are now deputized.
Am I really a deputy.
As much as I’m a sheriff.

10/10

When Calls the Heart 5.02

Turns out railroad will not happen and everyone loses faith in Abigail’s abilities. Julie, Elizabeth’s artsy sister does not punish Robert for ripping Anna’s drawing. Rosemary is happy as her clothes sell well in the big city. Rosemary pushes one of the local girls to buy a dress she cannot afford and she comes back with her husband the next day to return it. Lee tried to save the town by blackmail. Cody saves the day by randomly telling everyone his life story.

Men aren’t emotionally sophisticated creatures.
You’re the best mayor this town has ever had.
You changed your mind.
Actually your whole town changed it for me.
Our childhood never leaves us.
You’re a great major, Mrs Stanton.

5/10

When Calls a Heart 5.03

Some random architect friend of Rosemary shows up in town and it looks like she’s staying. I thought the doctor was supposed to end up with the nurse, so why are they adding a love interest for him? Jack is back and after spending a couple of months apart, he is eager to marry Elizabeth, you know why. Why does the young journalist’s hair look dyed, isn’t she 12? The show gets very average when Jack is around.

3/10

The Middle 9.14

4/10

The Middle 9.15

Sue turns 21.

4/10

911 1.01

There is no way a baby would fit in that pipe, but I still loved every minute of the episode. The youngest of Lind sisters plays a little girl home alone and I really enjoyed when the young firefighter used the fire extinguisher to throw the bulglar off the motorbike.

10/10

911 1.02

Unrealistic with the firefighter remaining conscious through the whole thing, but I loved the rollercoaster incident.

8/10

911 1.03

The cop’s daughter tries to kill herself, because of some girl at school bullying her.

8/10

911 1.04

The plane crash episode was everything.

10/10

911 1.05

I am really into the age gap between Abby and the firefighter.

I am so much better when it’s somebody else’s emergency.
That I murdered my own family.

6/10

911 1.06

I see it now, Ryan and Brad are big fans of Parenthood and Friday Night Lights and Coach Taylor’s wife is supposed to end up with Adam Braverman.

6/10

911 1.07

Another Parenthood alum, Drew’s girlfriend did a guest spot in this episode. I don’t see why they changed her age to 32 when Lyndon Smith is 28, but that’s the only thing that bothered me. I absolutely loved the moment where we find out the intruder was in fact inside the house, standing right behind the woman, and it was his refection that she saw.

8/10

How to Get Away with Murder 5.12

How to survive a scandal.

5/10

How to Get Away with Murder 5.13

At least Connor is going back to uni.

5/10

Scandal 7.10

Quinn and Olivia’s father randomly starting to sing Britney Spears while Charlie looks confused. I just really cannot stand Olivia at this point, she became such a shitty character, but I’ve always loved most of the characters here except for Olivia.

That man spilled his DNA all over this White House.

3/10

Scandal 7.11

Quinn is back and Mellie talking about her mammogram was one of the two good scenes.

Shut up, eat your melon.

4/10

Scandal 7.12

Shut up Olivia, I love Megabus, it’s cheap and takes me to London without paying the city centre entry fee every time I need to buy somthing nice for myself and look at pretty architecture.

You had to haul your broke ass on the megabus to beg for my help.

5/10

Modern Family 9.14

It was good enough, especially Joe being in love with Claire. When did Mitch and Cam get boring?

5/10

The Good Fight 2.01

How did I not know Audra McDonald joined the cast! And how did Howard become a judge! He does not like wearing his trousers and forgets things.

I just have a few questions.
Oh dear God.
So, let’s talk about your job, miss.
He thought we were getting too close.
You said you worked at an amusement park?
And Alicia Florrick. I went to school with her.

4/10

The Simpsons 29.10

I’m just intellectually drunk.
Hey kid, I want to show you something.
Are you a pervert?
A beautiful hotel bar, just like in The Shining.

4/10

The Good Doctor 1.10

Oh, look it’s the Grey’s Anatomy wanna be.

1/10

The Good Doctor 1.11

3/10

Absentia 1.08

Emily’s son and his new mom are kidnapped and at first we assume it was most likely done by Charles, Emily’s friend/nemesis from the children’s home she grew up in. Emily poses as a patient at the mental institution Charles lives in and we learn that all the children hated her for something. Charles does not reveal who Patient B is, but we he is in fact Patient A. I really thought he would say she is patient B, but he didn’t which does not exclude her.

You want me to hurt you or her?
Hurt me.

Absentia 1.09

Whatever else is missing will be posted next week, and then full reviews summing up each show before the new seasons start.

This is Us 1.18

Sara Paxton guest stars in this so-so episode.

4.5/10

Hollywood Darlings 1.07

I really hope this gets a second season.

Put your fucking hand down.
How rude.

3.5/10

The Good Fight 1.10

Your dad fled, you’re under arrest.

8.5/10

SVU 18.21

For SVU, it was such a shitty episode.

The next dead woman on the floor, that could be you.

2/10

Nashville 5.12

God bless Nashville for mentioning Daria.

When kids at school treat me like crap for being different, your music gets me through.
Oh my god, Daria! I love that show!
I know about depression.
You can’t push that kind of pain away, you gotta own it, deal with it every day. That’s what people do. They fail each other. So try again. Fail better.

9/10

Handmaid’s Tale 1.01

There’s an eye in your house, be careful.

I guess I need to rewatch 1.02 as the notes I took have gone missing

6.5/10

Handmaid’s Take 1.03

Alexis’s scream at the end and her facial expressions gained her an Emmy nomination and I couldn’t be happier for her!

Why only women?
I will resign my body to the use of others.
She was very pleasant looking.
In what way?
Did she ever touch you?
Did you know she was the gender trader?
You didn’t report it to your mistress?
But you knew what she was?
I knew she was gay.
That satan was an offense to God. She was a disguisting beast.
Because she was my friend.
Don’t! She’s pregnant!
No ice cream for you this month, young lady.
You won’t want what you can’t have.

10/10

The Handmaid’s Tale 1.04

God found a way to make you useful.

5.5/10

The Handmaid’s Tale 1.05

Rory Gilmore ran over some dude in this episode, woah.

Maybe we should skip tonight’s ceremony.
You can’t be sick every month.
Children. What else is there to live for?
Death.

3.5/10

The Handmaid’s Tale 1.06

Second to best episode after that wonderful 1.03 and who would have tjought the husband is alive?!

The children . All brought to you by pur handmaids.
They want to trade us dummy.
They don’t rape you, do they?
And stick his cock up your ass.
They rape me. Once a month.
I didn’t choose this.
They took my daughter.
Don’t be sorry. Please do something.
My country is dying.
My country is already dead.

5/10

The Handmaid’s Tale 1.07

They took my wife and daughter.
Gather them up for fertility reasons.
So she’s alive.

2/10

The Handmaid’s Tale 1.08

All should be collected and impregnated.
Maybe wife should be there for the act.
I will not be that girl in the box.

1.5/10

The Leftovers 3.05

And he shits 4 times a day.
I’m not one of those lunatics.

5.5/10

The Leftovers 3.06

Lorrie finally told Kevin about the baby she lost during the Departure.

I was pregnant, 16 weeks.

7/10

The Leftovers 3.07

Always a pleasure to hear the Beach Boys songs be used on TV shows and it happens more and more often recently! How disturbing was Kevin scanning his dick to get access to that freaking building?

Anyone can have your face, but not your penis.

5/10

The Leftovers 3.08

The series finale was not exactly what I expected, but at least we got some answers. Remember when back in season one Tom and Damien said we’d never learn what happened to the Departured, because the show is about the one who remained on Earth and their grief? Well I guess HBO pressured them for answers and I’m really glad they did. Why would Jill have her first kid in her late 40s though? How old is Kevin supposed to be in the end, late 60s? Goodbye, The Leftovers!

So you’re saying it’s your first time in Australia?
Jill married a great guy and has a daughter almost 1 year old.
How’s your dad?
Good, he’s 91.
I talk to Lorrie sometimes.
I didn’t change my mind. I went through. I walked through M
appletown. At first I didn’t recognise them. A boy, a teenager and a girl, 11 years old. I was aghost who had no place there. And that, Kevin is when I changed my mind. So much time had past. It was too late.

10/10

When We Rise 1.01

It’s shocking how I haven’t caught up on this show yet.

The lesbian thing.
The fact that someone is homosexual automatically rules out the possibility that he’ll remain happy for long.
I’m gay, dad. I’m gay.
It’s an illnes. It can be treated.
San Francisco is where we were told we could find our harbour.
Get your dyke face out of my station.
But I’m not a dyke.
God saves us gays.
I’m not one of them.
Be fabulous.
I’m not that sexual.
I need you to bring all the boys like you.
I worried I was a homosexual when I was 16, for a year.
Have you ever been arrested?
No, but I’m looking forward to it.
You love women, Roma.
Being black isn’t the only thing that is different about me.

10/10

When we Rise 1.02

Something natural. 8 colors.

I want you to be happy. And I don’t think this lifestyle will let you be that.
We’re lesbians. We show up. That’s what we do.
We are the lesbians and gays of San Francisco.
We are going to live.

4.5/10

Younger 4.01

Josh, I know everything.
You broke my heart.

2/10

Younger 4.02

You deserve better. You deserve someone who will treasure you.
20 something drama. Can’t stop them from acting their age.

3/10

Pretty Little Liars 7.15

I have to do this. Of course you do, that’s what makes you Emily.
Playing with people’s lives is an addiction.

5.5/10

Pretty Little Liars 7.17

I guess some dreams are meant to be just that, dreams.
I want to marry your daughter.
I thought you were ready to leave this town.
I am, just not the people in it.

4/10

Pretty Little Liars 7.19

Somebody’s always stealing the game from me.
This is Rosewood, Mona. Not Area 51.
Jump or I’ll push you.
Mona killed Charlotte.
She went into a safe place. Before anything bad happened.
Did you murder Jessica DiLaurentis? Yes.
She did this for you.
That’s what dying feels like.

Transparent won’t be back till 2018 and Shameless will be back in November, not October, that means I may have a bit more free time in late September/October, so I’m postponing the remaining shows I need to catch up on till then.

Shows I still need to catch up on:

  • The Catch
  • When Calls the Heart
  • Feud
  • Transparent
  • When We Rise
  • Shut Eye

SVU 18.18

You can’t rationalise rape.
Were you just trying to reassure her too?
A, what you did wasn’t sex, that’s called rape and B, yes, I really think the jury will believe it.
They’re shaming you into giving up.

8/10

SVU 18.19

One of the best episodes this season and I just adored how accepting Olivia is of the young lesbians. The first quote I’m adding to this review is extremely important. There is nothing more annoying than people thinking sexuality is always fluctuating and even the gayest lesbians or gays can swing both ways if someone asks them nicely enough or charms them into doing so.

She would never let a man have sex with her, she’s a lesbian.
He made me, my virtue is gone.
Because you’re a lesbian.
They’re saying rape is okay if it’s for religious reasons.
Things get better with time.

10/10

SVU 18.20

They did a number on this girl.
It’s a hate crime.
They were doing terrible things to my nieces.
You let those girls get raped.

4/10

The Simpsons 28.20

Teachers beat us, when you leave.
We may have to get rid of the boy.
And in no time, you’ll be worrying about something else.
I do feel better!

6.5/10

The Simpsons 28.21

If you new me you’d know I wuld never ever shop in the produce section.
Maybe now I will finish my novel.
I can’t work for a man I’m not in love with.

4/10

The Simpsons 28.22

Thank you for 28 great years Taylor Swift.
They don’t even know what state we’re in.
Load the purge armor, the day after The Purge, when it’s cheaper.

4/10

The Good Fight 1.07

The Purge is a 2013 horror film.
I make 27$ per supina.
You got me this job.
You deserved it.

8/10

The Good Fight 1.08

For a sex crime case, it’s shocking how shitty the episode was.

My client when he was 17 was raped by the pastor.
Pastors rape little boys.

1/10

The Good Fight 1.09

Maya has a boyfriend.
And your boyfriend was there too?
We had the party on Saturday.
And I didn’t turn 18 till the following Tuesday.
Luca, I knew.

4.5/10

The Leftovers 3.03

Would you kill a baby if it woyld cure cancer.
No.
That’s exactly what I said.
I never even considered looking for them.
Bones of 5 children.
You just got the wrong Kevin.

I cannot believe Linda from HR with Lauren Graham and The Get with Amy Brenneman both have not been picked up. Fox and CBS went with shitty shows with actors no one knows. Those two would have sold perfectly. This means this fall I will only start Navy Seals with David Boreanaz and The Good Doctor with Emily VanCamp. That clearly does not feel like enough, considering how many shows we’ve lost.

The Middle 8.23

Neil really does look like Henry Fonda. I’m disappoinedin myself for not figuring it out earlier.

You’re like a young Henry Fonda.
They’re lawyering up.
If you know the owner of this car, please call the police.
That is so freaking Henry Fonda.
Clearly your parents raised your rain.

5/10

The Goldbergs 4.24

Flashback to Barry and Lanie made me tear up.

Extra point from me for Barry eating Hubba Bubba.
Holy crap, she’s the one who keyed Drew’s car.
I promise swwtie, your boobies will grow just like the rest of you.
Stop crying. I can’t have the kids say stupid things.
You’ve raised an amazing young woman, Beverly Goldberg.
God, so much has changed since then.

10/10

Riverdale 1.13

Life is not an Agatha Christie novel. It’s a lot messier.
Something wicked this way comes.
The next day I went away and 5 months later your brother was born.
How old would he be?
Mid 20s?
People will look at this as the exact moment that last bit of Riverdale’s innocence finally died. And darkness won. Marked by an act of violence. It was anything but random. Imagine this instant, frozen in time.

10/10

Scandal 6.14

Is this a human head?
When did you stop gladiating?
Just because Olivia trade in her white hat, doesn’t mean we have to stop gladiating.
Quinn, this is your office now.

7/10

Scandal 6.15

She’s gonna assasinate Mellie.
B613, You need to reinstate it.

8/10

Scandal 6.16

Raise your hand if you’ve killed a vice president before.
The bullet and the pills.
Call me when she’s dead.
I’m reconstructing B613 and will run it myself.

9/10

This is Us 1.16

One of the best episodes this season, and they are all hard to beat.

You two sure are adorable.
We know.
Kate has his ashes.
Take me to meet your father.
Thank you for doing what I couldn’t. For raising him to be the man he is today.
I’d like to have heard that laugh. I’d like to have met my son’s father.
Here’s your brick, sorry and God bless you.
He looks like you.
Really.
I was ashamed of what I ahd become.
Everybody gets a cousin!
Sorry I was raised by white people.
I have a whole other family here.
But we haven’t made the trip. We haven’t even seen the ducks.
You knew you wanted to come back.
Poems for my son.
Roll all your windows down, Randall. Crank up the music, grow out that ‘fro.
You’re okay, dad, you’re good. Just breathe, come on.

10/10

This is Us 1.17

You got white doves?
They don’t have black ones.
I don’t know Sherman, CAN you help me.
This neighboorhood will miss him.
How’s William doing? I haven’t seen him lately.
On his morning walks.
People don’t just stop to talk anymore, you know.
We became friends, he always asked about my daughter.
We’ll remember things as before William and after William.

9.5/10

The Simpsons 28.19

Lisa’s first drink ends with her telling Marge to keep her pants on.

Does full Monty have some sort of naughty double meaning.
Congratulations, professor Homer.
Keep your pants on, lady.
You’re just gonna register and stay away from playgrounds.

5.5/10

Hollywood Darlings 1.05

Holy fuck, this is the best fucking puppet show I’ve seen in my entire life.
I smell some sort of shit.

7.5/10

Hollywood Darlings 1.06

5/10

The Good Fight 1.06

They’re too busy discussing my rape.
They’re the parents of Ferris Bueller.

Bates Motel 5.05

He looked like a madman.
Did she leave with a man?
Probably.
How amazing would she be as a grandmother?
With a look of an escaped convict.
Norma told me Norman killed his dad.
Sometimes I see my mother when she’s not really there, sometimes I become her.
Come on Norma, you were not that drunk.
Norma Bates found in an apparent suicide.

4.5/10

This is Us 1.15

I think we were all shocked when Kevin left his play to calm Randall down during his anxiety attack. I’m really happy he has though, I love when a TV show prove that people can actually change and the depression talk was relatable.

Do I have issues, yes, but deep down I’m awesome.
You’re putting too much pressure on yourself son.
I have struggled with depression ever since I was a teenager.
Count all the extra painkiller I had left.
Any of that scares you?
No.
You never really talk about your dad’s death.
I can’t seem to, I’m not there yet.

4.5/10

Switched at Birth 5.08

Simone is back!

We have an electric bill??
I didn’t meet the Kennishes till I was 15.
I think most people are trying to say the right thing, they just don’t know how.
I’m basically getting paid for taking doctors out for lunch and let them hit on me.
Regina, my sponsor, because I’ve been so unhappy that I almost fell off the wagon last week.
This is my son, Carlton.
I’m the funky artist with a cool car.
it’s like I’m saying goodbye to being a kid.

5.5/10

Switched at Birth 5.09

Travis tells his mother her brother molested him, it’s one of the best episodes.

That’s the guy who did it.
Guess what, the brother you worship molested me.
She’s never going to believe me.
I know my signing wasn’t good last night. I was just so nervous.
He took me into the garage.
He’s not making this up.
You never saw it, and how could you not notice how things changed between us, whenever he was around.
That’s why I was angry, because you never learned my language.
It’s too late. I don’t need it now, I needed it when I was 12.
I was scared, I thought it was all my thought. I couldn’t tell you.
And he knew that all that’s why he took advantage of me. Because I was the deaf kid who didn’t tell his mom.
I was helpless.
I’m so sorry.
Please help me, please.
I think what he needs to hear is that you believe him.
I believe you.

Scandal 6.05

You say dance monkey, the monkey dances.
First rule of self defence, don’t get into the car.

4/10

The Good Fight 1.05

Everyone knows it’s the SVU vs Trump case. From the looks of it, NBC won’t show Trump’s episode, but SVU has been renewed for season 19 and that’s all that matters! This episode of The Good Fight had Elsbeth Tasconi and Matthew Perry’s character come back and Kathy’s brother from The Big C join the cast. We’ve also learned that Maya’s father may be framing her.

That would require your father turning on you.

American Crime 3.04

So my favorite storyline finished in episode 4? That’s a bummer.

I screwed guys in alleys because that was better than where I came from.
Your son did it to himself.

2/10

American Crime 3.05

I haven’t watched the first season, but this one is only slightly better.

Women get raped all the time.
It asks for work history, what If I don’t have any?
I don’t want to do this anymore.
He hit me.

American Crime 3.06

Episode 6 and Shay is dead. Season 3 seems to be very slow, but I thought It concluded really well.

I write them to God.

American Crime 3.07

Felicity Huffman’s character this season is amazing.

She failed her drug test.
You brought that crazy woman into this house!

Hollywood Darlings 1.04

Jodie lost a shitload of weight after Dancing with the Stars, she looks fantastic!

Fuck your minivan.
There’s a difference between yoga breathing and annoying asshole breathing.
I’m not your sweetheart.
Honey.
Why didn’t you tell me once I drive the fuck out of here, I can’t return it.
I don’t have time to deal with your crazy ass.
Two can’t play this game.

Bones 12.07

Bones 12.07 was unnecessary. Did they really have to kill my favorite recurring character off?! He almost freaking made till the end! I am so mad about this. Rest in peace, Max Keenan. Max died saving his grandchildren. This was honestly one of the saddest episodes we’ve seen lately. I’m actually crying while rewriting these quotes, because I remember when he was introduced like it was yesterday. Why Bones why?! Max, you were awesome.

You had a pacemaker ingested into your chest and you didn’t tell me?
We’re sending you to a safe house.
There’s been a shooting. It’s the safe house where we put Max and the kids.
Where’s grandpa?!
They weren’t expecting your father in law.
Your father in law made sure they didn’t hear anything.
Pacemaker sends signal.
Tell me those children are okay.
Tempe.
I can help.
Dad, I’m here.

Bates Motel 5.01

Norman is daydreaming his mother is still with him and imagining someone who isn’t there being right next to you is the most delightful and painful way to get through life. I know best, I’ve been doing it since I was like 6. I just don’t understand why they’re introducing some Norma look alike as Norman’s future girlfriend. He’ll kill her by the end of the series anyway. Emma and Dylan had a baby?!

Oh, mother.
It is what we signed for.
Norma Louise must be over the moon about this.
We are Bates Motel, this is not that kind of establishment.
For starters, I’m dead.
A mentally ill boy and a dead woman. We’re doing it. We’re actually doing it.
I don’t know the exact circumstances of how he came into this world.
It’s not like we haven’t done this before.

Greys 13.17

That Cristina reference and Ellen taking as back to season 1 with her deliverance. The way she said ‘name one’ and we’re back in season 1 listening to her wanting to learn more about Derek. Mer and Nathan are happening and I’m very happy with it. All I can hope for is that season 14 is set in New Zealand. Ellen’s directorial debut is up next week! And I need to rewatch the episode, because Snapchat deleted my snaps of that Kiwi boy speech when he said he worshipped Mer since day one.

We were surgeons, now they’re surgeons.
Her reasons are for sex.
When I said I do, I meant I do.
How could you let me talk to her like that?!
You are at least as messed up as I am.
I would love to ask Cristina how suffocated she felt by you.
You don’t get to call what’s normal.
I was already an amazing mom.
16:22 is the time of death.
I think I’m in love with Jo.

Nashville 5.11

So when is Nashville back from the hiatus? In June? They all sang with Rayna and it was beautiful.

Why did they want Maddie and not both of us? We both sang.
We’ll have Juliette’s album and we need to get Maddie in the studio as soon as possible.
They’re about undying love.
I hate that I can’t share it with Deacon. Each year I want to pick up the phone and tell him.
I just forgot how sad I was for one moment and I feel like the worst daughter.
After all those years ot feels like we’re 19 again locked our eyes for the first time.
God knows the both of us, we tried.
That’s the only way we can finish it they way she would have loved.

Switched at Birth 4.05

I don’t think she knew what it meant, I didn’t. I had a history lesson before I got out of preschool.

She meant wherever you came from.
I stayed up all night, went to different pizza parlers.
I don’t matter, they’ll just let me starve to death.
Until they’re expelled, I’m not eating.
This is for the people who told me I’m pretty, for a black girl.

4.5/10

The Goldbergs 4.15

Adam went to school with that kid from Little Rascals! Shitty episode otherwise, at least Erica and Jeff hooked up!

This is Dave Kim, a tiny freshman creeper who dresses like Welma from Scooby Doo.
When it’s really Jeff Schwartz who you love.
The real Rid Robb.

How to get Away With Murder 3.15

Gow old was Charles when he raped Wes’s mom? 16?! I am so hating this whole thing about who killed Wes.

I’ve been running for 10 years.
3rd floor bathroom.
Another entitled law student.
I’m gay. Not eating for 48 hours is only gonna up my shirtless selfie game.
This is so illegal.
So is killing your professor’s husband.
Your husband took what he thought he deserved, raped that woman and  life came out of it. A black boy that you and he could never love.
Christof wasn’t Wallace’s son, he was Charles’s.
All along supporting your son, the rapist.
That he was my Barrack.
When did you know with Wes?
When it was too late.
They found Rebecca’s body.
He was a murderer.
I’m doing this for you, all of you. So you don’t have to go to prison and get naked in group shower and crao in front of people that may rape you. It’s death in there.
You can’t go down with what I did.
Wes killed my husband, he confessed to it that night. In the end he was a monster and he killed himself.
Better to kill yourself than to go to jail.
It should have been me, I know that. He’s a rapist and probably a killer.
Stop that girl!
He felt like my son.

This is Us 1.10

Did they just ask an obese person if they binge? Why do you think we can’t stop? Toby has a heart attack.

Do you ever binge?
Yes.
Maybe when you were a kid.
Also lat month.
Di I do this? I did, didn’t I?
With the food. I didn’t know If I was bringing it up too much, or if I wasn’t enough. I never knew what to say. Did I do this to you?
I don’t know.
The one thing I cannot live without is you.

4.5/10

The Simpsons 28.16

The Parent Trap reference! Can we discuss how this show is still in its prime 28 years after it premiered?

Every night they showed us The Parent Trap. What kind of parents break up twins and never tell them the other exist?!
Simpson, I’m giving you a raise.
No need to take your pants off.
It’s not what you think. I just had a big lunch.
I do everything, but masturbate.

The Good Fight 1.03

Really mad about Maya turning out to be bi, not gay.

I’m Marissa, by the way.
Maya.
I work for Diane, but when she’s out and you want anything, let me know.

Modern Family 8.15

Britney Queers.

Riverdale 1.07

Kudos for that Wes Craven reference! RIP horror genius.

Like an extra in a Wes Craven movie.
We need to find Polly before the Blossoms do.
The noose is tightening on your murdering daughter’s neck.
He was working for me, the weekend of July 4th.
My niece or nephew.
My parents, I don’t think they want to help you.
Everything for Alice Cooper’s daughter.

3.5/10

The Good Fight 1.02

I’ll rape you and cut your tits off.
See, it’s not so bad. *man’s toilet*
Who’s that?
My new assistant.

6/10

Big Little Lies 1.02

Go fuck yourself.

I’m not having sex.
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.
Sexual assault? He kissed the girl!

Welcome to ReviewThisFilm

This website started as weekly reviews on movies and tv episodes, and a diary of the 700 new films I watched every year. Today it’s a place for me to write a few words on films and tv shows that leave some sort of impact on me. I no longer write in depth reviews, partially thanks to bad habits gained by spending many hours a day on Letterboxd, and partially because of my demanding day job.

If you have a film you would like me to watch and review,  please leave a comment.

Enjoy!

About me

I am the dark and twisty Meredith Grey, the mad Dexter Morgan, hoping to grow up to be a little more like the wise, but fun Nora Walker. I am an aspiring filmmaker. My favorite actresses are Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. Favorite genre – psychological drama. I watch anything with a sexual or mental abuse plot. I used to be a horror freak. I am obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, SVU and many more. My other interests include making oil and pencil portraits and wildlife conservation. I cannot say no to beautiful landscapes, travel, Aussie accent, TV/film quotes and avocados. I have recently moved back from Australia to the UK. I’ve been running this blog for the last 9 years. Here I comment on films and episodes I watch. Enjoy! – Joanne

favourite film and tv quotes

‘When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I used to sit in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I’ve met you and moved to Sydney, I haven’t listened to one Abba song. That’s because my life is as good as an Abba song. It’s as good as Dancing Queen.’ (Muriel’s Wedding)

‘I used to think about
your life in New York. I tried to imagine your room. I kept track of the time difference, so I  knew when you were awake and when you were asleep.’ (Disobedience)

‘Nothing’s clean, Howard. But we do our best, right?’ (The Aviator)

‘No, I’m not quitting. I don’t quit things.’
‘No, actually you do. Your mother quit your father. Your father quit you. You quit your boyfriend and if I read your hospital chart correctly you quit your life momentarily on a couple of occasions. You quit. It’s what you know how to do.’ (Greys)

‘Where the hell was I that year?’
‘Your were watching television’. (Everybody Loves Raymond)

‘It’s impossible to worry about anything else when there’s blood coming out of you.’
(Short Term 12)

‘I wanted it to happen. And when we were girls… Even then, it was the same. It’s always been this way! I have always wanted it.’ (Disobedience)

‘Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a moment when our lives change forever. The moment we admit our weaknesses, the moment we rise to a challenge, the moment we accept a sacrifice, or let a loved one go. And sometimes the change in our lives is an answer to our prayers.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Yesterday I went to the movies all day by myself. One after the other. I’ve never done that before. I had a really happy day.’ (Doing Time for Patsy Cline)

‘I just need something to happen. I need a sign that things are going to change. I need a reason to go on. I need some hope. And in the absence of hope, I need to stay in bed a feel like I might die today.’ (Greys)

‘She saved me my whole life. Without her, I’m nothing.’ (The Favourite)

‘Don’t wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don’t. In face of what we can lose in a day, in an instant, wonder what the hell it is that make us hold it together.’  (Greys)

‘Bree sobbed quietly in the restroom for five miutes, but her husband never knew, because when Bree finally emerged, she was perfect.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘I am not food, you cannot just eat and eat.’ (The Favourite)

‘I don’t love him.’
‘Of course you do.’
‘No!’
‘Don’t take me for a fool Olive,  I’m many things but I’m not a fool.’
‘I know that, you’re brilliant.’
‘Don’t you see, it’s over. Whatever this is, was, it’s over.’
‘I love You.’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing, is reason enough to celebrate.’ (Greys)

‘Many years ago, a neighbour and a good friend of ours took her life, and that left us all heartbroken and perplexed. But somehow, when I was alone in that hotel room, I forget about all the pain that she caused. In those awful moments, I thought maybe she had the answer.‘ (Desperate Housewives)

‘What happened last year when you fell in the water?’
‘I almost drowned. Do you think I did that for kicks?’
‘You put your hand in a body cavity that contained unexploded ammunition.’
‘I was trying to save a patient!’
‘Why is it that every other person in that room had the sense to hit the deck? You know people run away from this line between life and death. You seem to stand on it and wait for a strong wind to sway you one way or the other. You’re careless with your life. You’re not slitting your wrists but you’re careless. Probably because your mother told you you were a waste of space on this planet. The problem is you believed her. And if you don’t want out one of these days you’re going to die because of it.’  (Greys)

‘This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in. And I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future. And quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn’t see coming, but that’s really the point. Don’t you think?’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Was your life not working when you let that slip out from under you?’
‘When are you going to stop suggesting that I’m suicidal?’
‘When you start acting like someone that wants to be alive.’
‘Give me my chart.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I’m not suicidal, and if it says that I am, then it’s wrong.’ (Greys)

‘There is nothing wrong with me.’
‘Then show me your arm.’ (Degrassi)

‘Look, my whole life, I have been the freak. The girl who nobody picked for dodgeball. The girl who didn’t have a mom. The girl who dressed funny because it was her dad buying her clothes. And then, tonight I looked at these people, and I thought maybe there’s a future where I don’t have to be a freak. Maybe I can be who I am and that’s okay.’ (Everything Sucks)

‘Dr, I have been this way since…since I can remember. There is no cure.’ (American Horror Story)

‘He was so crazy about me, I couldn’t breathe. So we tried drinking our way back into love, but it never made sense in the morning. So I ran. And every time I came back, he was here. And he was still crazy about me.’ (My Blueberry Nights)

‘Bree van de Kamp had always wanted to live her life with elegance and grace. That is also how she wanted to die. Her plan was to pour herself a glass of her favorite chardonnay, put on her most stylish nightgown and leave behind a note on embossed stationery.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘All we have is this moment. The future is just a fucking concept that we use to avoid being alive today. So be… here…. now.’ (Six Feet Under)

‘On the train coming here, we were in the same cart, I saw you, you were reading and you feel asleep. I didn’t dare to look at you, you were so beautiful, it was scary. Afterwards,  I couldn’t stop thinking about you. It made me smile. Then I thought of all the men who would get to hold you, who’d make you laugh. How lucky they were.’ (Enemy at the Gates)

‘It was a good day. Maybe even a great day. Even when it was hard, I was the me in my head. There was a moment when I thought I cant do this, I cant do this alone. I close my eyes and imagine myself doing it, and I did, I blocked out the fear, and I did it.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a time when we must expose our weaknesses. When our secrets can no longer remain private, when our solitude can no longer be denied, when our pain can no longer be ignored, but sometimes we feel so alone that a weakness we thought we’d overcome suddenly becomes too strong to fight.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Why did you get married, Esti? Why didn’t you just leave? So everything was all right when I left?’
‘No. I was ill.’
‘What sort of ill?’
‘In my head.’
‘If I had to sleep with a man, why not with our best friend?’
‘Oh, Esti…’
‘It hasn’t been a complete disaster.’
‘And that’s enough?! Do you have to have sex every Friday?’
‘It’s expected.’
‘It’s medieval. What happened to you?’
‘Nothing. You happened to me. And then I started teaching and that became important. I give them ambition.’
‘To do what? Push out seven babies and be a good wife?’
‘Don’t. Don’t. I help them to value themselves.’
‘Okay, but what about you?’
‘That is me. And you? Are you happy?’
‘Yes, I am.’
‘Have you been with other women?’
‘No. Not really. And you?’
‘No.’
‘But, Esti… Do you still
only fancy women?’ (Disobedience)

‘OK, then, listen. Let’s not get caught.’
‘What are you talkin’ about?’
‘Let’s keep goin’!’
‘What d’you mean?’
‘Go.’
‘You sure?’
‘Yeah. Yeah.’ (Thelma & Louise)

‘She let me live at Nora’s house. She let me believe that I was a part of their family. I fell in love with that family. What am I supposed to do, just sit there, pretend I’m related to them? I was happy. For the first time in my life I was happy.’ (Brothers and Sisters)

‘You will be left all alone with your bitterness and your rage and your knowledge that you loved her and she loved you and you threw it away for them.’
‘Do you love her?’
‘Yes.’
‘And Have you always?’
‘Yes.’
‘So then ask her.’
‘Olive, will you forgive me?’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘No razors, no scissors, no fucking freedom.’
(Short Term 12)

‘You can’t take a picture of this. It’s already gone.’ (Six Feet Under)
