I’m on my first holiday since February, and I’ve decided to rewatch at least one film from two of my most favourite directors, Andrzej Wajda and Brian De Palma. Keep reading to find out which films I chose to watch.

Chronicle of Amorous Accidents

My dad and I own 24 of Andrzej Wajda’s films on DVD at this point, after buying another 7 this week. My dad has been telling me about this masterpiece for years and I finally got to see it. Paulina Mlynarska left the industry after being traumatised by the nude scenes in this film she shot at just 14. That’s the difference between European and US or British cinema. How many French films feautured films with teenagers being exploited?

10/10

The General

Started off my holiday with this brilliant Buster Keaton film. I was enjoying it very much, then halfway through I got a text from my boss telling me to contact him, because he wants to throw me a leaving-do. It’s my first time abroad since February and yesterday I bought 32 DVDs for very cheap, so I think we can already class this holiday as a success?

10/10

Carlito’s Way

I’ve never noticed how much Naomi Watts and Penelope Ann Miller look alike until this film!

8/10

The Accidental Tourist

Back in the 7th grade I chose to write my book report on the book this movie was based on. I went to the bookstore and The Accidental Tourist caught my eye as it had the poster from the film on the cover. I only got this book, because I recognized Geena Davis from A League of Their Own and Thelma and Louise and I loved both of those films. It was an exceptionally boring read, and to think that most of my classmates wrote their reports on books from the Mary-Kate and Ashley book series while I committed to reading this drag. The book put me off watching the film, and It took me this long to finally reach for it, and…surprise, surprise, I hated it just as much as my younger version hated that awful book.

‘A business traveler should bring only what fits in a carry-on bag. Checking your luggage is asking for trouble. – – Add several travel size packets of detergent so you won’t fall into the hands of unfamiliar laundries. There are very few necessities in this world which do not come from travel-size packets. – – One suit is plenty, if you take along travel size packets of spot remover. The suit should be medium gray. Gray not only hides the dirt, but is handy for sudden funerals. – – Always bring a book as protection against strangers. Magazines don’t last and newspapers from elsewhere remind you, you don’t belong. But, don’t take more than one book. It is a common mistake to overestimate ones potential free time and consequently overpack. In travel, as in most of life, less is invariably more. – – And most importantly, never take along anything on your journey so valuable or dear, that it’s loss would devastate you.’

4/10

This Changes Everything

Let me get this straight, they got a male to direct a documentary about how Hollywood doesn’t want to hire female directors? Also, Geena Davis is a queen, and I’m a fan of most of these actresses and filmmakers.

‘The basis of your thinking is determined by the first images you see; whose values are important and whose stories are important, and that’s what we’re teaching little girls and little boys.’ – Reese Witherspoon

10/10

Top of The Lake: China Girl

How did Elisabeth and Nicole shoot their scenes together, seeing how Scientologist aren’t allowed to talk to ex-Scientologists? While season one was incredible, this is a mess. I watched the first 4 episodes 3 years ago when the season came out, and it took me until today to finish it I saw season one was discounted at my local DVD store for £2 and I’ve decided to buy it I didn’t like the second season and I won’t ever be rewatching it. I just bought season 1 on DVD for an equivalent of £2, and I have no need to ever rewatch the second one, so it was no brainer really.

6/10

Ava

There’s one scene in this that’s extremely uncomfortable to watch and must have been painful for Jessica to film seeing that’s how her sister died. This film stars Jessica Chastain and Geena Davis, but the script is bad and they can’t save it.

5/10

Wildflower

First film ever watched on Amazon Prime Video. That’s right, I finally caved in. Little Reese Witherspoon and young Patricia Arquette star in a film about abuse. I hate how no one wanted to get involved at first and accepted the abuse as something some people just do.

7/10

A Private War

I wish they showed us something about her childhood, why she left the US and what drove her to do this scary job.

9/10

Timbuktu

After four months of free Mubi, it’s time to decide whether to keep my subscription or to cancel my membership. Mubi has offered me an entire year 50% off and even though I know I won’t have much time to watch films starting next month, I think It’d be dumb of me not to take it. This is a fine example of why I should keep it.

7/10

The Lost Room

Expires from Amazon Prime in a few hours. I’ve never even heard of this mini series before yesterday, but I’m a huge fan of Six Feet Under and Parenthood, so obviously I had to watch it. It reminded me of Locke and Key and I’m not sorry I spent 5 hours watching it.

7/10

Zing

Suitable for ages 7 and up? Are you kidding me, this is a creepy short about death. Brilliant, but not for little children.

Hi guys, this is my 300th post, enjoy!

Greys 12.24

Still crying over Calzona never happening. There may have been warnings, but it’s still unbelievably hard to let go of a character you love. We deserved so much more. I hate that we didn’t get an appropriate closure with Callie. But most of all, I’m mad she left! Tremendously sad and angry about all this. Very happy about Benjamin cutting Kepner’s baby out on Meredith’s kitchen table. According to my notes this episode was 24/10, so that says something. I always download every single song featured on Greys, so I am currently obsessed with that new Rihanna song.
Can’t expect her to be Cristina.
I’ve had the love of my life.
Who? Izzie?
I am sober!
You’ve no idea how many people have locked themselves in that bathroom.
Stuff your feelings in!
Mer and I, the two of us, we’ve been through hell.
He left her to me and she left you to me.
Derek was supposed to walk me down the isle. He walked every one of my sister to the isle.
Nothing’s wrong with Owen.
He could use some sun.
I presented you with a menu of options and you chose to run.
Who has that twice?
Okay, can’t think of anyone.
Richard Webber.
Thank you!
He doesn’t even know my real name.
Poor guy, he loved me so much.
You showed superb technique. You saved two lives today.
I’m saying let’s all be happy.

10/10

SVU 17.20

This is one of the most common cases. I have friends who got into the modeling industry and quit just as quick as they were discovered after seeing their fellow friends go through this.

I didn’t want him to do that.
She took pictures of the rape.
Rape?
Yes, rape.
I warned her about this creep.
That bruise wasn’t there last night.
Is this art or porn?
Is that the camera you used during the shoot?
Sally didn’t want what he did to her.
This woman sets up models to be raped.
She looks terrified!
He doesn’t ask, he takes.
That story has a happy ending, she’s pimping for him now.
When I stimulated violence, she got off on it.

10/10

SVU 17.21

Another wonderful episode. SVU takes down every Bachelerotte-like reality series. Olivia and Fin’s reactions to Amanda and Carissi eating dinner together were priceless.

Who actually watches this show?
Wait, I don’t remember any of this.
Did you see what I just saw?
Did they just air rape?
Did Ryan rape me?!
That could be rape.
They said it wasn’t.
She signed a waver.
So I’m not a virgin anymore?
This girl didn’t realize she was raped until she saw it on live TV?
I got an STD from the rape!
He put it in her only for a couple seconds.

10/10

The Good Wife 7.22

The disappointing finale. Alicia messed up her relationships with everyone, to yet again, save Peter. I am only happy they brought Will back. What’s with Sutton Foster’s extremely short cameo?

Look at me, do I look like I’m breaking down?
It’s a ringtone. It’s a freaking ringtone.
Someone else’s she was using her cell to call 911.
You were always drunk, loling around.
Good to see you again.
Again, where was I?
It’s good to see people find their purpose.
Grace said she’s gonna drop out of college to visit you in prison.

10/10

Castle 8.20

Funny as always.

I grew up here, experimenting with costumes, makeup.
These fine gentlemen are constables.
Richard Castle is leading the case with the help from NYPD.
Mother?!
Richard!?
His yolo credit card, if he passes a gas station.
Ricardo.
Typy, typy, typy.

7/10

Nashville 4.20

Where was Candace when they were shooting The View part!? Elton John played on Nashville, and Nashville still got cancelled.

She’s everything. Without her music doesn’t mean anything. Nothing means anything.
I can’t. It hurts too much.

Time for reviews. Some of the last ones this year.

Greys 12.23

Meredith finally hooked up with the kiwi boy! Unfortunately Ellen said not to get our hopes up. Which I did, the minute he was introduced. No one else would ever be this suitable to be McDreamy 2.0. This episode gave me the awkward cringy feeling that Shonda may try to get Meredith and Alex together which is awful cause they’re basically brother and sister. And she already did that with Izzie and George and we remember how well that turned out. Owen sold Derek’s trailer without asking Meredith. And now he’s marrying Amelia one episode after they got engaged. In the meantime, Jo refused to marry Alex, and I am honestly not even bothering to guess why. I never liked Jo. Meredith told Amelia to stop being so confident and cocky and copying Derek, and I don’t even think that was unnecessary. After 12 years we finally got to see the exact way from the ORs to the gallery and it was satisfying after I lost the sense of what the hospital looks like after they introduced the enormous set of stairs a few episodes back.

Now you even have his confidence. Get your own life.
You’re hot, you’re smart, you’re funny.
You’re gonna be my best man.
Then hell, I say go for it.

8.5/10

The Good Wife 7.19

A funny episode. I have a feeling we’ll miss this show next year. Mondays will feel a lot empty without The Good Wife.

You will not embarrass my husband.
Your honor.
Your worship.
What?
Your worship.
Could you live in Canada?
We request asylum.
3 years.
Oh my god.

6/10

The Good Wife 7.21

Why did they destroy the whole floor at the very end of the show? Was that really necessary? Diane ruined her relationship with Kurt right before Alicia buried it completely. For a one-to-last episode it was extremely disappointing, but so was the series finale.

No I mean construction.
What construction?
They had the wrong floor.
We should expand to the 29th floor.
Kurt, I’m sorry.

4.5/10

Faking It 3.06

Why is everyone so sex crazed in this high school?

Stop fucking my mom.
Are you saying you would do her under different circumstances?
Hello boyfriend, you just got back from the gym?

3/10

The Family 1.08

Finally a great episode. So the girl who was sleeping with her brother on Private Practice is just as much of a psycho as her boyfriend?

We’ll check if there’s any sex offenders in the area.
There’s one.
Really?
How close?
Close.
You need a friendly neighborhood pedophile.
You would be sitting in the corner slitting your wrists.
Mom, why?
You’re my son.

10/10

The Family 1.10

How old are you?
19.
Nice to be here.
Why is that?
Irony.
The dirty inmates.
That’s when they clean the dirty.
What’s in the bag?
The rest of my life.
You’re gonna tell everyone that I id this.
He would have to admit that he had two kids down there.
There was a boy 12 years ago when we used to live.
Monsters don’t remember names. Girl scouts do.
Do you think Adam would have liked this?
We lost a child.
And you have two left.
I hang out with sexual predators and we meet on Monday evenings and swap stories and play softball.
Our lives are screwed.
I googled it. When you’re younger, you bounce back, kids are plastic.

10/10

The Family 1.12

This is exactly why you don’t watch shows at work, I missed the most important thing! And then read about it online! Spoilers ahead, do not continue if you don’t want to know how the whole series ends. I missed the part when the pedophile’s wife heard someone kicking in the shed and her finding Adam is still alive and getting him out of there! I thought they already got to Canada and she was shocked to see a shed next to the house, as she knew him kidnapping a boy would happen again. So I continue watching while working and then suddenly the pedophile lays shot in the woods, uhm what? And then at the very end Adam tells Ben he’s coming home. I missed the whole pedophile’s girlfriend/Adam alliance. The real Adam was in the shed the whole time. I am pissed. I need to watch the ending again.

I don’t care if he had an elephant.
That was Adam, I am Ben.
For 10 years he was ket there like an animal. It’s not his fault he became one.
It’s a desire that you know you shouldn’t have but you want it anyway.
That’s rape.
Wanting it doesn’t make you a monster. Taking it does.
It’s some other kid taken even before Adam was taken.
You took my life, I’m coming to get it back.

10/10

The Simpsons 27.20

Homer gave Lisa Annabelle the doll as a present. Witty and fun as the Simpsons go to France.

Chubby dude in a tiny car.
Stop speaking French.

4.5/10

The Simpsons 27.21

You forget most of that’s hair.
Barbara Streisand once forgot the words to a song and didn’t perform for 3 decades.
I’m kidding The Simpsons will never end.

2/10

The Catch 1.07

So Penny from Lost (‘Not Penny’s boat’) is now Alice’s therapist, that can’t end well. Still not into this show and couldn’t be more shocked that it got renewed.

Black dot means I need help but It’s dangerous to ask.
Tell her everything or you’re wasting your time.

Who will even watch Castle without Beckett? Every Castle fan ever is feeling very crappy this week as Stana Katic was written off Castle. (Lanie too) No one wants to see Castle, Alexis and that new PI in LA or NY or wherever as long as Beckett is not with them.

Greys 12.18

I just love CCTV portrayal in films and TV, as that’s what I do for a living. And yep, that door opened.

Mom’s in OR 1, dad’s in OR 2.

9.5/10

Greys 12.19

Who would have thought I’d be Callie and Arizona fighting for custody, not April and Avery. When I heard Callie say Arizona can come visit I thought why is she so sure, she’ll get custody, cause Arizona cheated? And then as Arizona was sitting at that lawyer’s office, I remembered that Callie is Sofia’s biological mother, and however unfair it feels (Arizona raised that child from day 1), Callie has custodial priority. The jury with Maggie and Meredith and Owen was just the perfect fit. Ben calling Tuck his kid was just the cutest, also when Bailey called him Benjamin. I am so happy they changed the kid who plays Sophia, cause this one is a cutie. Also, why does the new Zola look so much like Shonda? Is that her kid?

I know I’m only here for support…
About, I don’t know a 100 feet.

So I don’t leave our child asleep in his bed.

10/10

SVU 17.13

Sometimes the more witnesses, the less help.
I learned to function while drunk.
I think she’ll be drinking by Friday night.

4.5/10

Shameless 6.05

We are so organized for a homeless family.
Never fails, Gallagher crisis, Frank is drunk and high.
We got evicted.

10/10

The Good Wife 7.13

That monologue. Probably best of The Good Wife of all times.

He just whispered Help Me.
Sir, if you want my help…
Sometimes I want to pull covers over my head and never do anything. I’m drinking like I never had before.
And al I wanna do is have another one.
Now I’m sick to death of everything.
I’m stuck in this stupid little apartment.
I’m not build to be an unhappy person wondering what ever happened to my life.
Do you have any guns in this apartment?

10/10

How To Get Away With Murder 2.15

Hmm, is Frank gone?

What’s wrong with you, you stupid?
I live alone, it’s not that bad.
Micheala relax, I know how to handle this.
Caleb killed my mother.
Because I’m in love with him.
Are we supposed to believe any of that?
Why do you keep doing it? Believing what men tell you.
He needs to go.

10/10

Nashville 4.15

I’m obsessed with that Wild Car song.

I’ve been with him since I was 14.
I’m a sick chick, I’m a real sick chick.
To the man I have always thought of as my father.
Everybody’s got a sad song and this one’s mine.
To tell the truth, I always knew I’d be one.
Like choosing the band leader.
I miss performing.

7.5/10

Faking It 3.04

Another good episode, also every time Lauren or someone else says What the Fuck the show gets better.

With all the lesbians this summer.
She really fucked me this time.
I didn’t choose my label. I’m stuck with it.
You refuse to label, how convenient for you.
If I talk about it, it’s real.
Somebody asked me today what normal even means and I didn’t have a good answer. Maybe I need to find one.

7/10

Faking It 3.05

I love Parent Trap, both of them and It Takes Two probably even more, so i enjoyed this episode.

I’m frustrated that you’re going down her rabbit hole again.
Two Lindsay Lohan have nothing on us.
I know you’ll be busy Parent Trapping.
I was the first person to come out, in 4th grade.
I want you as my sister.

6.5/10

American Crime Story 1.01

Started off great, but why is he sleeping with his lady in his friend’s daughter’s bed?

He didn’t ask how she died.
Please don’t kill yourself in my daughters room.
You want your kids to grow up with no parents?
Oh my God, we’re gonna look like morons.

I tried to do a lot, and I still have to review so many episodes! Good thing I have 7 shifts this week, so part 2 tomorrow.

Greys 12.09

This episode wasn’t exactly necessary. Meredith has been through enough. I was really scared Shonda would make an SVU episode out of it, but thank god, knock on wood she didn’t think of that. But you have to admit, that opening narration did suggest it. Zola was being a little brat and I felt so sorry for Mer when the kids didn’t wanna see her. Alex was either crying or about to cry through the whole episode, which is exactly how every fan of the show felt. Ellen crushed it, her performance was incredible this week. I honesntly couldn’t even look at the screen, because of her pain was just too hurting.

Or the silence will kill you.

10/10

Shameless 6.01

Shameless is back! Who else is really happy? How are you liking this season? I think it’s a little weaker one. And what happened to Deb? Why does she insist on having that kid? She was supposed to be the one Gallagher that actually accomplishes something. And now it looks like it’s gonna be Lip.

It’s the ghetto. Lots of noises in the ghetto.
That Turkish idiot.
You’re pregnant.
I’m I’m late for work, and you all look like you haven’t had gainful employment for decades, so if you don’t mind, I’ll just, um Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.
Well, Jesus freaking Chr If a man can’t find a little comfort from the Catholic Church, maybe it’s time to admit Martin Luther had a point.
Let’s give the Lutherans a try.
What could you possibly have to confess? Your cooch dried up before Nixon went to China.
Guess our reputation as a shithole still stands.
Lots of kids have to take it up the ass to survive?
He set his dad on fire.
We’d like to talk to you about the baby.
What else did I miss?

7.5/10

Castle 7.09

Finally a Martha episode, they don’t show her often enough. A Pitch Perfect kind of episode with accapella groups. I like how protective Espo and Ryan are of Beckett. I know that Swetlana is one of the most common Russian names, but I hoped Castle would reference Shameless.

Castle, we talked about this! You can’t be here!
Castle, what’s the 911?!
Or someone! You cheat on her. You cheat on us!
He told us about Swetlana.
I only have one specialty, performance.
We still like Martha.

7.5/10

The Middle 7.11

Sue wants to join a sorority, but as always, no one wants her. She finds her first college friend in the process. We rewatched the episode where Sue spends the whole day in the sun holding her hand on the car to win it. And even though she wins, she doesn’t get the car, as it’s another Frankie’s ex boss’s scam, and she wins a trip to Disney World instead. Sue is not crashed at all. My dad said this is exactly what we should do with our lives. Strive to be this happy. Mike being clueless about Twitter, is just like my dad is with the computer.

Angelina Jolie was never in a sorority.
Like murder mystery with poop.
You seem like you’re really into being happy.
I can call them myself, you just need to tell me who sets it up.
What would the call time be like.
Is this what rejection is?
Yep. Luckily you’re with a pro.

8.5/10

The Middle 7.12

Sue just isn’t fit for critical thinking. Brick imitating Mike with ‘Why I I I’

Why’d you come to college?
Because I graduated high school.
But I’m not a critical person.
When mom flirted with that bag boy, I got his name and his Wallmart ID number.
You and Axl are pretty much the same person.
You and Axl are the drama queens of our house

6/10

The Good Wife 7.11

Yes, The Good Wife is ending with this season. Are we sad? Not really as the last two season weren’t interesting at all. I mean they tried to make Peter a president, what? I’ll miss Eli, that’s for sure. Everyone else, not so much. The show isn’t addictive. You can’t obsess over it like some other dramas, so sure I’ll miss it, but it won’t be a struggle, like with so many other shows, Private Practice, Dexter, The Big C, Desperate Housewives or even Lost to name a few. I thought of another Sunday show today, Revenge, as I was watching The Middle and Axl mentioned it a couple of times. There are 8 more episodes, so don’t worry we’ll get to say goodbye. Episode nine was probably this season’s weakest.

Alicia broke all the plates and wears sunglasses all episode.

I would have said yes.
There was a young man in love with me.
I would go back to Criminal Law 101.
Your sister is Grace?
She likes you.Peter’s not number one. She is.

5/10

How To Get Away With Murder 2.10

Wes would have never got into Annalise’s class if she didn’t know his mom! Also, Annalise had a baby? Did she give it up for adoption?

Hurry, before Bonnie gets back.
You’d fall apart if they blamed him for this
Don’t make things up.
They’re my records. They should be gay.
You all belong in hell.
She didn’t do it.
She just broke priveledge.
I shot Annalise Keating.
I was drugged by Philip Jessup.
You wanted to die that night.
You knew I wouldn’t let you do it if I was there.
We didn’t call Asher that night. None of us had his number. If we did none of that would have happened.
I get it now. Why my mom did it.
You knew my mother, didn’t you?
You knew her. That’s why I’m here. Why I got in from the waitlist.
He’s adorable.
I think you’ve ruined me. Get out!

10/10

Younger 2.01

From what we’ve noticed so far, Layla’s daughter is annoying. Diana chipped her tooth.

3.5/10

Younger 2.02

How come every time I see you, you look younger.
You know who I really am. And that’s too much, or too little.
We’re gonna be 26 year old bosses!

5/10

Younger 2.07

I got a 40year old shoulder when putting on my backpack the next day I watched this episode.

I think there’s a pattern.
They also called it a 40 year old shoulder.
He was up everyone’s ass.
I fell of the eliptical this morning.
All we need is one chapter.
30? Who are you kidding?
Bitch, there is no book!
As long as the check clears, I’m good.

6.5/10

Pretty Little Liars 6.11

They moved 5 years forward, to avoid them being separated. This way it’s much easier to put them all in one place. The first episode after 5 years ended just like the pilot did., with a funeral.

We’re the brotherhood of ex-boyfriends.
We have scars to prove it.
Everywhere she went it was like she saw something she wanted to forget.
I couldn’t see the point to it. To college. To anything.
N0. I would not feel safe.

7/10

The Simpsons 27.11

This is what happens when you buy cheap food, maybe not that fast, but since when does cheap mean good.

I’m tired of my son having a mustache like a pool boy.
She’s never seen an episode of Friends.
Even The one with…
No.

5/10

The Simpsons 27.12

The Simpsons isn’t really that funny this season.

All the remaining episodes are here, now back to weekly tv reviews and film reviews too.  Expect the next post next Saturday, now enjoy!

Greys 12.06

How are we supposed to like Derek’s killer. I hope they’re not gonna make her a series regular. She killed Derek and now she took Arizona’s place.

And you didn’t find that reason enough?
Is there any part of this job that you can handle?
I’m talking to Derek.
And you came in. The spitting image of your mother.

6/10

Greys 12.07

I can’t believe the finale is next week. And yet another 4 month break. This episode they did a skull transplant. Webber being Arizona’s wing man was almost as good as the elevator scene, where Mer told the new McDreamy that her story is too long to tell and when she told Owen she promised Cristina she wouldn’t let him go all dark and twisty. Also Maggie explaining racism and white privelege to Amelia.

Wilson, I have three kids. Three. Do you know how little sleep I get?
Are any interns interning at the lesbian bar?
I wanted to punch her in the face.
Guess where I’m from.
Australia.
Wrong, New Zealand.
I made a promise to Cristina that I wouldn’t let you go all dark and twisty.Just tell me. Do we hate him?
We hate him.
And they’re telling me they’re not boarding coach yet.
Your name is on all the walls. What’s the story there.
It’s too long to tell.
So you wanna grab a drink?
I’m a friend of Owen Hunt’s, so no.

10/10

SVU 17.07

Right on top of my notes it says, ‘The pastor, right?’ and indeed that was the case. One of the best episodes this season, but I really thought brother was the rapist just like in the Dugglars’ case.

I had sexual activity.
You didn’t to anything wrong. You’re still a good person.
That’s what he told me.
How about you write it down?
These issues don’t just go away.
He got her other sister pregnant.
I’ve been binge watching this show.
I’m usually right.
Rollins, you’re alright?
I really screwed up. I won’t be able to do this.
We’ve got family, camera crew, and that pastor.
He gets them away from home.
Married?! She’s 13!
She’s legal.
He is Tate’s baby’s father and I believe the other child’s too.
You need to stop talking to her.
He told me that’s what people in love do.
I want him put away!
Most rapists don’t hunt on the streets, they hunt where they’re trusted.

10/10

Downton Abbey 6.06

I’ll miss this show dearly. It still does not register it’s ending.

Matthew died in a car crash.
Marigold is sweet but why would any man take her on. She’s so stupid to have settled herself with a child.
Could this be love?
Oh shut up.
Shouldn’t we shake out his pockets?
Have you found anyone to hit with it yet?
If I had it my way, I would have hit a lot of them.
No you may not.
My word is still not good enough after all these years.

10/10

Downton Abbey 6.07

So happy for Mr Moseley! Now I just hope he marries Miss Baxter in the Christmas Special.

This is the first place that I’ve laid down some roots.
Nobody is always friendly.
I’ll be very glad If you’ve joined the teaching staff at the village school.
Well done, Mr Moseley.
I can’t give you up.
You will be hurt again, but that is not the reason to give up on the man who is right for you.
What’s so funny?
Just life, Mr Carlson, just life.

8.5/10

Downton Abbey 6.08

Beautiful finale, but they should have went deeper into Thomas’s suicide attempt. I know he’s just the help, but It would be nice to see the emotional fallout. I hope Barrow will be Little Goerge’s Carlson. Sprout will write to Edith’s magazine, under a female nickname. Can’t wait for the Christmas episode.

A house of its repute.
Edith would outrank us all.
She’s quite handful.
You ruined Edith’s life today.
Mrs Pattmore has been loyal to this house and now this house has to be loyal to her.
He said he hoped I made more of myself.
Barrow slit his wrists?
Thomas has cut his wrists.
Do you still think dismissing Barrow was a useful saving, Papa?
And Barrow tries to end his.
Tom says he is in love with you and you’re in love with him.
I can’t be a crash widow again.
Sprout?
I’ll be best man at both of your weddings.

10/10

The Good Wife 7.05

Oh Howard. I haven’t seen him represent one client over the last 7 years, but okay.

I’m doing it alphabetically.
That’s convenient. That’s code for old. That’s code for Jewish.
Old fart. Gargoil.
I call Diane Lockhart to the stand.
I see you’re running an adult day care now.

7.5/10

The Good Wife 7.06

She’s black. She suffered. Like my people.

3.5/10

Scream Queens 1.06

Funny and I don’t get all these stuck up people who think this is crap. Every time they reference The Silence of the Lambs, The Shining or Texas Chainsaw Massacre my day gets a little better.

We have gathered here today because a backstabbing little bitch got exactly what was coming for her.
Like a bunch of hobbos.
This dumb dead bitch.
Have fun being dead.
Will you please go kill some people?
Are you having sex with a goat.
Cops finger Dean Munch.
You wanna play quid quo pro Clarice?
It’s a lawsuit.
No, hooker.
For saying Chad was having sex with a goat.
Liquid laxative.
To young girls getting what’s coming to them.

7.5/10

Nashville 4.07

Jeff is dead and they’re having a concert and Scarlett cut her hair. One of the best episodes this season. Julliette finally asked for help and got sent to a rehab centre.

10/10

How to Get Away with Murder 2.07

Bonnie’s past and Asher covering up rape is all I care about this season. Is Annalise Wes’s mother? Is that what they’re tryng to say? Is that why he got added to the program from the waitlist? Was Annalise checking all her potential students and then saw him and added him from the waitlist. What are the chances that a son would follow his mother’s footsteps without knowing anything about her? Also, the lady who committed suicide was not his biological mom. Are they saying Annalise got pregnant from rape when she was a little girl?

She’s blafing, you idiot.
Who is she? You’re blushing!
Cause I get to see you again.
We run off together.
Four guys took one girl upstairs so don’t you dare say you didn’t know what they were going to do to her.
She went to a party and her life changed forever.
You just keep on being you.I can’t look at you the same anymore.
She told you, didn’t she?
That’s no problem, I’ve got Sam’s money.
He’s not just some student, that’s him.
You exposed me!

10/10

How to Get Away With Murder 2.08

Get on board or you’re the next dead body out there.
Bonnie crying in the shower.
Stop. Call it in.
Bonnie would have already been at the lab.
I need you to be my new Bonnie.
Sinclair has been tapping our house!
Maybe Mr Millstone should be my new Frank.
Speak.
Another one for Mr Millstone.
Miss Castillo could be me one day.
He’s a part of an incest. And she only had one brother.

7.5/10

Scandal 5.07

SVU case. Bill Cosby case.

To tell the president he just hang a medal on a rapist.
The fact that you rape women.
You knew? Did you give him the drugs because you knew what he would do with them?
So if he rapes a few, then it doesn’t matter.
Liz is gonna be the vicepresident’s chief of staff.
He’s not the President anymore. You are.

7/10

How are we enjoying the fall season? Are you as disappointed as I am? I actually caught myself wondering what’s happening on Revenge two sundays ago, and then I realized nothing. Nothing is ever going to happen on Revenge, as after an awful season 4, we won’t see what Victoria Grayson is doing, and I am not fine with that. Now back to the post, episodes missing, like the two hour premiere of SVU, HTGAWM, Bones, Nashville, Scream Queens etc. will be posted in a separate post tomorrow. All those premiered this week will be posted next week, as I didn’t want this note to be too long. I started watching The Grinder, but after two episodes, I can honestly say, It’s not for me.

Greys 12.01

What a disappointment. I am looking forward to what my favorite show has to offer this year and please let it be something better than this pile off bullshit.

2/10

Greys 12.02

Thankfully, the dull season opener was only that, a mistake that hopefully will never happen again. Meredith, Amelia, Alex and Maggie carpooling, doesn’t get any cuter and PG than that. Alex should have just rented a place not buy one, preferably in a better neighboorhood, like I finally did. Yes, no more loud and lousy flatmates for me. Remember when Bailey was the Nazi in season 1 and everyone was so little? I will always associate Greys with my teen years and I love that It’s one of the shows that’s built and raised me. How will Mer adjust being chief of general surgery with being a single mother of three?

Your neighboors seem nice.
This place is ran by ladies. They called Bailey the Nazi.
All she does is talk to me or at me.
I understand why Amelia suggested her. Edwards gets things done.
I deserve more.
I need a me and I believe that you can be a me.
I would like to apoint you chief of general surgery.
You are the calm in the centre of the chaos, you have been since I met you.

9.5/10

SVU 17.03

Could have been better, but didn’t we all love how supportive the teen trans’s parents were?

Boy dresses as a girl that makes it a special victims case.
The freak needs to learn a lesson look.
No transgender child should ever be singled out or hurt.

4.5/10

Downton Abbey 7.01

I can’t explain how how it will be to say goodbye to this show. The first episode focuses around the very awkward but fun sex talk between Carlson, Miss Hughes and Miss Pattmore; and everyone panicking about upcoming stuff cuts.

You could have rang for her yourself.
Tell her this, in my eyes, she’s beautiful.
I love her Miss Pattmore.
I’m bursting with pride that she would agree to be my wife.
You’ve clearly had a bad dream and confusing it with reality.
20 year time a house like this won’t be standing if it isn’t an institution.

10/10

Downton Abbey 7.02

For all I know I’d have to cook and do the garden.
You’ve worked here boy and man, if you don’t deserve to be married here, than no one does.

5.5/10

The Good Wife 7.01

How could Peter fire Eli, he’s the biggest asset of the show. Fortunately, Alicia won’t let him disappear into thin air. For a kid in college, Grace certainly has a lot of free time to play Alicia’s assistant all day long. Canning and Florrick is what I’ve been waiting for the whole summer.

Alicia Florrick, attorney at law.
Who is it?
No one, I’m calling myself.
You just lost your greatest assett and made your worst enemy.
Now you’re just making these jobs up.
She can’t inherit it.

10/10

Castle 8.02

This show is so not going in the direction I want it to go.

Did you guys get lost or did you purposely wait until the last possible minute to show up.
Please don’t tell me that son of a bitch was right.

2.5/10

Scandal 5.01

This season will be a drag.

I am not sick!
I can’t go home until you fix me.
Olivia Pope is in President’s bed, which means she’s up in our business.

1.5/10

Grandfathered 1.01

When Wouldn’t it be Nice starts playing. And Bob Saget saying ‘you don’t want that do you? when the screaming child passes him. This show is gonna give me mayor Full House feels and that’s what has kept me going the last few months. What a great pilot.

I’m sorry we don’t allow children.
Am I right Victor? White Victor?
What if I were gay and I met him at a bar?
I came across a buzzfeed list called 28 reasons why having a dad is the best and by number 12 I was crying so hard I was dehadrated.
It appears that you only own one set of clothing.
Saves you mental energy to focus on work.
I’m currently unemployed.
This scene is ridiculous anyway, running through traffic is more dangerous than the fall was. Just call an ambulance, dummy.
We were here, we’re here.
You carry an old photo of yourself?
Take a picture. Not of yourself, us.
You don’t want one of those do you.
Why do you have a meat thermometer in her butt?
People are meat.
You look a little young to be a doctor, could you get someone older, Asian if you got it.
Parenthood is pretty much an endless string of moments when you think you killed your kid.
It’s not dyed, it’s colored.
Have you had botox.
Yes, but not on my face.
Gerald’s dad is such a Clooney.
Ponyboy and Sushi.

10/10

Switched at Birth 4.14

To Angelo.

2.5/10

Switched at Birth 4.15

Nice Frida Kahlo lesson, I’m impressed, SAB. Should have mentioned her communistic views just to really shed a light on who she was as person. My Birthday falls on the tragic bus accident’s anniversary, among different unflattering events. A lovely episode, despite the Emmett drama, can’t they just stop showing him? No one cares how great he’s doing in LA.

And one of the unhappiest.
He slept with her sister.
The jealousy, the obsession it destroyed her.

5/10

Switched at Birth 4.16

I see what SAB writers wanted to do here, but it’s not okay to have sex with someone’s body while they’re passed out. He deserved to have his life ruined just like any other guy who thinks so does.

Then she googled me.
Doesn’t mean our lives are over.
Everytime someone googles me the word rape comes up.
He’s a good person who made a mistake.

3/10

Switched at Birth 4.17

Bay asking herself questions every artist does.

What if she’s the best thing that I’ll ever do?
It’s been 4 years since I’ve created her. I haven’t come up with anything half as good since.
You’ll never run out of amazing ideas. You’re just beginning.
I think I’m gonna stay here, figure out my next idea.
4.5/10

The Leftovers 2.01

Getting weird and did we really need so many new characters? Why were the girls running in the woods naked? Where the heck is Amy Brenneman? We’ll see what the second season brings. Teenage girls running naked in the woods while all the water from the lake has dried up is an interesing Lost-like mystery I wanna uncover.

Miracle Town, Departures : 0.
Is she adopted or did your mom fuck a black dude?
Dad, the water is gone.

4.5/10

The Simpsons 27.01

Scary threat of a breakup of the couple we’ve been following for 27 years, fortunately, it was all a dream. Yet oh so funny.

That’s just to remind me where I parked.
There’s a spider in my room.
Narcolepsy.
There’s four old people before me.
All my problems are my parents’ fault.
Smithers come up from my rear and grab me.
Marge has changed her status to it’s complicated.
Simpson, where are your shoes.
Narcolepsy.
I’m just a lonely man with a bag full of drugs.
Those are strechmarks young lady, I’ve had three children.
Doesn’t look like she uses that much shampoo either.
Sleeping through our theraphy session.

8/10

The Simpsons 17.02

The Gilbert family has learnt a valuable lesson. Srew everything.
Buddism is really just quitting in yoga pants.

3.5/10

Faking It 2.15

I honestly don’t know why I am still watching this show. Every week the episodes get worse and worse. And it’s not like Amy and Karma are gonna end up together. For all we know Amy may end up with a guy. Second half of season two is too slutty and just too, well, straight. Why does every show need to have a The Breakfast Club kind of episode? I know it’s one of the ten best teen films, but this was not a tribute.

No snapchatting your genitalias.
You can’t keep eating yourself up.

Hope Floats

Mae Whitman’s performance and her character’s storyline was what made it a film worth viewing. Without the daughter storyline, the film would be half as good. I loved how she set her mind on her father wanting to take her with him. I loved how she wouldn’t let go and kept putting her suitcases into the car, and how the father did not want her. I was surprised when someone else died, when they spent a few scenes on us getting to know the father. The kid telling her mother’s bachelerotte to leave her alone as her daddy was coming back for her and her couldn’t behave at the funeral and running to him just when the priest stopped speaking, was essence of the film. The girl getting beat up by the overweight girl for wearing glasses and accidentaly hitting her with a volleyball at P.E. and her cousin telling her mother that she lived, where necessary for the film. This was favorite performance by Mae after Parenthod, and she really should have gotten her part in Independence Day 2 and we all know it. I also was surprised how well the scenes where Bertie’s high school friends reacted to her public somewhat humiliation. They were all snarky and happy she wasn’t a prom queen anymore. Getting this on DVD for sure.

‘I know that I’m not what I once was. I know that! But I haven’t changed so much, that I would go and lie to someone that I love. God, I would walk through fire before I’d let them feel like they were nothing! And I would never break up anybody’s home. Because I am not a quitter. I care about my family!’

‘Childhood is what you spend the rest of your life trying to overcome. That’s what momma always says. She says that beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it’s the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning. Just give hope a chance to float up. And it will.’

8/10

Independence Day

Good enough, especially for a sci-fi film, yet lacked something. I enjoyed the cathastrophic and postapocalypic element of it, and yet it just did not seem real if you can say that about a scifi film. I hated that the one character I routed for did not make it. I loved that Mary’s character did not make it and a little Mae Whitman asked the Serpent and the Rainbow character if ‘Mommy’s sleeping now’. I watched a little of V and I love Contact, and adored Interstellar this year, yet I can’t quite swallow why was this one such a hit in the 90s and why do they want to make another one. But then, maybe I’ll never get alien movies, and that’s okay, I suppose. You can’t like them all.

7/10

American Reunion

I recently tried to watch Band Camp, the first part of American Pie that did not include the original cast, except Eugene Levy and it sucked so bad, I turned it off after 20 minutes. The original four though, are incredible. The reunion brought tears to my eyes, because it’s been 13 years from the first, we saw them all grown up, but not at all changed. There were parts I did not find quite as funny as the first two, but my favorite was when they got into a fight with the high school boys, and Michele went all get away from my husband, you shithead, and when Stiffler shamelessly shat into a guy’s portable refregirator. I hated that Fincher did not get together with Stifler’s mom or that Jim’s mom was dead. At least Stifler got back at Fincher by sleeping with his mom. When they walked into that reunion all in line, just like in high school, I cried. I need another part. They promised to see each other every year, as it looked like they haven’t really stayed in touch, at least not with Stifler.

6/10

Parental Guidance

I had it on DVD along with my new copy of Cheaper By The Dozen. I now have three Cheaper by the Dozen DVDs, and needlesly to say, It was not half as good as the latter. It was half as good as the CBtD sequel though. The one funny thing about this show was the scene at the customs were Bill Crystal’s character’s says ‘Let me make that easier for you as the customs guard was growping him, and then he coughed. A cute family film, you won’t probably watch again, unless you have it on DVD.

4.5/10

Yours, mine and ours

I am not gonna lie, and admitt it took me three tries to finish this film. That’s how boring it is. I am always down to watch new family films, but I should have just skipped this one. It lacked a major conflict, and the plot was neither funny nor interesting. The kids lack personalities the Bakers had in Cheaper By the Dozen.

2.5/10

Friday the 13th

I remembered so little from the remake that I decided to watch it, and along with it, the genius original. The original is almost as good as Halloween and is definitely one of five best horror films made. And man, does year ’79 look good, or what? Simple life, and those people have no idea what’s coming. I have never been a fan of the 21st century, and my country was in a real bad shape in the 70s and 80s, so I find 70s and 80s country side/small town films fascinating. It’s like I’m watching Moonlight Mile and feel like being the town’s only post office worker would actually be enough for me. It’s one of the films I watch a few times a year. Now going back to Friday the 13th, I always adored that the hitchiker gets killed before getting to the camp, and that they don’t show us the killer till the very end. I don’t remember my reaction once they showed out almost a decade ago when I watched it for the very first time. I wish they played it on TV, it’s unbelievable how hard it is to come across a 70s or 80s film anymore. Television stations should really understand that just because something is new does not mean it’s good and you really should not play it over and over again. Friday the 13th, if I hear they’re playing you on tv, I’ll tell every one to watch, because you are a real treat not only for horror fans. I am planning to rewatch the second, third and fourth part this month as I miss the simplicity of horror films.

10/10

Friday the 13th Remake

Not truly a remake, as this is just another killing, and the blondie from the original did not kill the lady in the woods, but over the pond. I hate how people try to present something in a new way, where they really just shouldn’t. Why was the summer house located so close to the Camp Blood? 20 years after the original deaths from 1958, town’s people are freaking out when they here the kids want to go there. They must have heard about the killings from over the years, and yet, no one warns them. Well, just one lady, but she doesn’t really warn them, she just tells the main boy to let Jason be. Now, Jason keeps one of the girls locked up as she looks like his mother. And he ties her up, yet listens to what she says in the end. Why would he tie her up then. I don’t know why kids think they can just take someone’s stuff. You are really brining it on yourself. Why was Danielle Panabaker listed as the first on in the credits, if she didn’t make it to the end?

5.5/10

It Follows

Everyone who says this is special, has not seen enough horror films. I have seen over 300 horror films in my life through classics, independent and crappy low budget ones, and let me tell you this was not good. Tension? Barely. Other that that, nothing special. We have seen kids screwing to get rid of a curse not once. I see all the similarities to at least ten films of the genre, I hear you when you say you tried to hire a Catherine Deneuve from Repulsion lookalike. But Repulsion is a masterpiece this could never be. And you did not cast a Deneuve lookalike, you casted a Gwen Stefani lookalike and that’s perfectly fine. But since when can you shoot a ghost? A mediocre film, and a slight disapointment.

Welcome to ReviewThisFilm

This website started as weekly reviews on movies and tv episodes, and a diary of the 700 new films I watched every year. Today it’s a place for me to write a few words on films and tv shows that leave some sort of impact on me. I no longer write in depth reviews, partially thanks to bad habits gained by spending many hours a day on Letterboxd, and partially because of my demanding day job.

If you have a film you would like me to watch and review,  please leave a comment.

About me

I am the dark and twisty Meredith Grey, the mad Dexter Morgan, hoping to grow up to be a little more like the wise, but fun Nora Walker. I am an aspiring filmmaker. My favorite actresses are Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. Favorite genre – psychological drama. I watch anything with a sexual or mental abuse plot. I used to be a horror freak. I am obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, SVU and many more. My other interests include making oil and pencil portraits and wildlife conservation. I cannot say no to beautiful landscapes, travel, Aussie accent, TV/film quotes and avocados. I have recently moved back from Australia to the UK. I’ve been running this blog for the last 9 years. Here I comment on films and episodes I watch. Enjoy! – Joanne

‘Why is it that every other person in that room had the sense to hit the deck? You know people run away from this line between life and death. You seem to stand on it and wait for a strong wind to sway you one way or the other. You’re careless with your life. You’re not slitting your wrists but you’re careless. Probably because your mother told you you were a waste of space on this planet. The problem is you believed her. And if you don’t want out one of these days you’re going to die because of it.’  (Greys)

‘This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in. And I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future. And quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon.
