Pretty Little Liars Season 3 so far.

I have decided not to start a new show this summer, and catch up on some films I wanted to see. When The Big C ended, all I was left with was Pretty Little Liars. I have always treated it as my guilty pleasure show, or something to watch in a background, while working on something else, but when the holiday season started, I had time to pay more attention. We all knew A was coming back, and that Mona was just their tool, and we were exited for the new trouble girls would find themselves in. I must say, Pretty Little Liars is the last teen show that I watch and enjoy. If you read my previous posts, you know that this year I tried to watch a teen series, and I failed, as the story did not speak to me at all, and I ended up forcing myself to watch it just to kill time, and thankfully, I stopped, a few episodes before the show got cancelled. For more go to my previous posts. Anyway, I started Pretty Little Liars a few month after the first half of the first season ended, somewhere at the end of November 2010, and it just felt like an intriguing story, which may full-fill my empty guilty pleasure show spot. I have not graded the previous seasons, as it is a show I enjoy watching, but not obsess about, like some of my favourites, so I am not planning on rewatching the episodes, but now I have decided to grade season three and edit this post week by week.
This season was significantly worse than the full of surprises season two. The love stories get complicated, the show lacks suspense. This is also the season when I really started liking Spencer, she is my favourite liar now. This season disappointed me entirely, and though I probably should have a separate scale for this show, as it’s a teen show (ABC Family), but I have not established one and since I did not prepare a separate one for Suburgatory or Skins, I am assessing it like any other show. Right now I am patiently waiting for the Halloween episode, but most importantly, the upcoming episodes in January.

  1. Aria’s scene at the bathroom was intriguing. I couldn’t stop laughing when Emily, a character I like the least, got drunk and just dig up Alison’s body, and doesn’t remember anything except for the car, ridiculous much? ‘Mona played with dolls, I play with body parts.‘
    Last night never happened.
We’re always gonna be those girl who knew Alison.
I really want to turn my brain off.
I wanna know what I did to make you hate me so much.
Have you even noticed how many skinny brunettes go to this school?
    I had a panic attack, I think I saw A.
    Bitch crazy.
    4/10
  2. I used to think that Ms Montgomery would be a great friend, and she is my third favourite character, and now she’s finished Emily’s test for her, amazing woman. Her accepting Ezra may be a little over board, or maybe she’s just a dream mother. I am enjoying Hanna’s monologues a lot. Why do I have a feeling Jenna was sleeping with Aria’s dad, is that too much? Then why the hell was her earing there? The bathroom scene, very Pretty Little Liars, and very good.
    Dead girl can’t smile.
You have made my life a nightmare.
    I’m having an ambiguous loss.
Trust me you’re not the first person to hurt me, and you’re certainly not the last.
Is it just me or is she blinder than last year?
Honestly I don’t think that you remember anything clearly from that night, when we picked you up, you kept calling me Arlene.
    Bitch can see!
    4/10
  3. Melissa lied about losing a child. Caleb is protective of Hanna, he also finds out Mona is the one who ran over Hanna. Ezra overstepping in Emily’s case, pretty impressive. Spencer’s mother is representing Garrett, this may be actually good. Spencer does a hell lot of digging, and her mother just acts like it’s all normal, which is again, good. Bitch can see! And… drive! When did she do her licence when she was supposed to be blind for two years? Was she lying to her parents too? ‘Wow Jenna, what a sight for sore eyes’.
You’re laughing at all of in there, in your head, aren’t you? Now here’s the real joke, I get to walk out of that door, but you aren’t going anywhere.
Maybe we should push a table in front her and see what happens.
Don’t go all Spencer on me.
He killed the girl Emily was in love with.
If people think that you’re blind, they get careless. You see what they think you can’t see.
    God, you’re so twisted.
I wonder how I got that way.
I am really getting tired of everybody treating me like I was made out of glass.
    6/10
  4. I was right who the black swan was. Caleb and Hanna break up, and the scene was not as heartbreaking as when he was leaving to California, but this couple is just nice to look at, and we are definitely going to miss them. Aria trying to find her mother a date. Okay, so imagine this you’re falling behind school, so you’re taking a job, real mature.
    All right, Roger that.
    Roger that?
    What? We’re on a mission.
You know what they say, if the feather fits…
Hanna, It’s the shoe, if the shoe fits.
Mom, you better tell me right now or I swear to God, I’m gonna walk out that door and I’m never gonna come back.
Like it or not, this is your family.
I can’t do this anymore. This, I feel like you’ve been pushing me away for weeks. I just, I keep, I keep hoping that things are going to go back to the way they were, but clearly that’s not gonna happen. I feel like I only exist in half of your life and that’s not good enough for me.
You have no idea how much I’m looking forward to get out of this place. All these dysfunctional people.
Truth always comes out, one way or another.
Look I get that you’re trying to help me here, but you’re not.
    4/10
  5. Jenna’s birthday party. Paige is back and gets drunk. Hanna wears sweatshirt and finds Emily’s clothes from the night she got drunk. Emily finds out she has been drugged that night. Aria walks with Ezra not afraid of everyone finding out, and Jenna doesn’t pay attention to it. Aria gets a job and finds out Lucas is the one who drugged Emily.
    Hanna hasn’t eaten since Tuesday.
Why would A care about Garret’s mother?
Maybe A wanted her out of the house.
I feel a lot safer when I’m in charge of what happens to me.
I’m too depressed to work a zipper, alright? Get over it!
    Do you have plans tomorrow?
Yeah, I’m going to listen to every sad song I’ve ever downloaded on repeat.
I’m hungry and your cupcakes taste like old pennies.
    4/10
  6. Garret’s trial is dismissed. Aria finds a huge amount of money at Ezras. Spencer finds Ali’s bracelet. Spencer has a breakdown at the end of the episode, which was the only good thing of that episode.
I’ve been in the library so much I am on a first-name basis with the homeless guy who sleeps next to the microfiche.
    2.5/10
  7. We find out Hanna gave a false hope to Ali’s parents. Emily finds out Maya’s cousin likes her, which is a plot I could not care less, as it does not bring anything new to the story. Aria’s mom goes out with the same guy as Hanna’s mom last episode, but finds herself another date. The girls meet Ali’s friend. Hanna is being framed. Hanna and Aria go to see Mona but do not find out anything really important. The season is slowly losing suspense and is becoming weaker and weaker with each episode.
I just wanted to say I’m sorry for what I did.
Miss Aria you’re a killer, not Ezra’s wife.
Friends don’t let friends sneak into insane asylums alone.
Move over, why? Because this never happened.
No one save Ali from evil. No one save Ali from evil.
God you used to be so much more fun.
And then I grew up. Go to bed, mom.
    2/10
  8. We meet Ezra’s mother who is a bitch, which helps Aria reunite with her father. Spencer asks Caleb for help in breaking a password. Paige tells Emily that the night Em was deadly drunk she came to Paige’s house, and the stupidly in love girl took advantage of her. Emily first seems to be pissed, but then realizes maybe that’s what she really wanted. Girls find something on Maya’s website. Hanna convinces the board not to move Mona and kisses Wren.
You ask questions like you already know the answers.
Am I just destroying everything that I touch?
No, you couldn’t. You would never hurt anyone, and no one could ever be harmed by having you in their life.
Get out your phone, we’re taking pictures.
You kissed me, maybe you thought I was someone else, I think I knew that, but I didn’t stop you. I didn’t wanna stop you, it was like a dream.
    And then what happened?
The dream ended. Then at school I could tell you didn’t remember or you didn’t wanna remember.
I convinced myself that what I did was okay, it wasn’t. You were there and I just got greedy. It was bad enough when I thought you were drunk, but when I found out about the flask I felt worse than awful.
I can’t talk to them the way I talk to you.
That was then, and this is now.
I think I understand how angry she was. We started out at the same place. Mona made sure we didn’t disappear and I owe her that. I see her in that robe and these slippers and I realize that could be me in there and if it was me Mona would be sitting here asking all of you to not send me away, so please don’t. Don’t send her to Saratoga, she doesn’t know anyone in Saratoga, there will be no one there to hold her hand, and no one will care a brown rat’s ass about her in Saratoga, so please.
I was drunk that night and I got lost, only I didn’t really get lost. I was looking for something, I was looking for somebody and I came here. Don’t look away.
    3.5/10
  9. Hanna and Caleb are back together. She tells him that A ran over his mother and is still out there. The scene when they were staring at each other from across the hall and that song was playing, I got a little emotional. Aria went to Jenna’s party with Ezra and now is afraid about someone finding out, it’s obvious they already now. Truth or dare game, a big yes. I wouldn’t trust that girl with my application. When Spence got an email that her early admission has been accepted I got all very emotional, that scene was just beautiful.
The universe is a finicky little bastard.
This person dag up a grave and stole a body, this person might have killed Maya, because she knew something she shouldn’t have. This person… A run your mother off the road. Do you think I would have just let you walk out the door If I had a choice? I have missed you so much, it’s making me do stupid things, crazy things.
At least one of us deserves to be happy.
I don’t appreciate being lied to.
    Dude, keep walking.
    3.5/10
  10. We find out that Maya has been to Noah’s cabin in the woods, and the video he sends Spence we see someone kidnapped her from there and it was neither Noah, Jenna or Garret. Emily’s a slut and kisses Maya’s cousin. Bitch is cheating on Paige and doesn’t have the balls to tell her. Spenc and Hanna got locked in Noah’s cabin. Hanna gets stabbed, and Holden gives her stitches. Aria tries to deal with knowing that Ezra got some girl preggers and his mother paid her off. I don’t think Paige is A’s ally. Let’s hope it’s not Caleb.
    I’m saving you for later – A.
    What the hell just happened?
    3/10
  11. Spencer is suspicious of Paige after Cece told her pigskin was abusive of Ali. We learn that Ali bullied Paige. We find out Erza has a kid. Spence is attacked by a snake, but the scene was way below my expectations. The only good part about this episode was when Jenna came to worn Em about… Nate I hope. We also see there are two As other than Mona.
Once I’m done with that no neck bitch, she won’t even exist.
Um, Nate, she’s gay, she dated your cousin!
    2/10
  12. Halfway through the episode we could see who A was. We knew it was Toby the minute we saw his face, when he was hugging Spence. We knew Nate killed Maya, as a sudden trip to the cabin in the woods was suspicious. We know Caleb is gonna get shot when we see the gun. The scene when Caleb and Emily are hugging after he put the gun away is ridiculous. What surprised me was that Paige was not involved, seeing her tided up in a wardrobe. I suspected Nate from the very beginning, cause It just seemed off that he was so desperately trying to be close to Emily. And like I said, I also suspected Paige, but the last two episodes were just too obvious, the way Spencer was on to her. Calling the parents would be the best decision at this point. The scenes I admired were finding Paige in the closet, Emily running towards and hugging Hanna not Paige and Spence forgiving Paige for suspecting her. Hanna’s cry over Caleb made me cry and seeing Toby’s face under the hood was obvious, but good. Finding out Toby was one of As was a little shocker, I though at this point, when we’ve learned to trust Toby, he was harmless. I suspected him the entire first series, but now when he was hugging Spence after they slept together for the first time, that was not expected. What the writers should have done, was changing the saying goodbye scene, Toby should look all happy when hugging Spence, that way, out jaws would drop when we saw him wearing the hoody. I do not think Nate was A, he was just Maya’s killer. I like Ezra’s ex, I actually think she and Aria could be friends. Definitely the best episode of this season.
    ‘It was actually kinda genius.’
    Three against one, A wins.
That’s just another monster Allison created.
She’s been gone two years and we’re still caught in her cell.
    With a pink ferry lamp?

I will start with what I really liked about the show, which was the fact that the main character had no social life outside her job. How she came home to her mother and lived like and average person. Goes to job and comes back home, that’s it, no boyfriend, just what life of an averagely successful person looks like. I watched this show in one day and I was digging it and I still think it should not be cancelled that quickly. The show should be made more like a horror, the value of it would be higher. I am not a fan of paranormal, magical and mystical shows, but this one was not that bad, it should be given the whole season. There are many worse series. I still do not understand how Ghost Whisperer made it to the whole 5 seasons or the shows like Charmed, Buffy and Supernatural have so many viewers, sorry. The show has a lot of points that I would definitely change, starting with better writing, and bringing some life to the dull main male character. The procedures are not well prepared and it just feels like everything is happening too much and too fast. The cases are more or less interesting and the team is not the strongest.

Past Life 1.01

This is worse than some dream, you actually feel what’s going on, don’t you? Your heart races, your palm sweat. No matter how hard you try you can’t make it go away. Must be terrifying.
Calm down.
That’s it? We’re supposed to figure out who killed this kid based on that?
I never said this was gonna be easy.
Start recording, it’s the red button.
Oh, thank you, I’m not an idiot.
Okay, the so the guy ran into a girls room, so he must have been a girl, that is ridiculous.
It’s 5 dollars for a cup of coffee, I should have it how I like it. Exactly what I say.
I don’t want  to be a girl anymore. Ha, okay.
A boy was a girl in his past life. He was kidnapped with his sister, who turned out to be still alive.
Why do you come here, is there a reason?
Yeah, my life sucks.
Do you not see the irony here with Mister non believer, knocking on the wood, playing with little pretend angels.
So I’m superstitious, big deal.
It’s just a coincidence, Kate.
Okay, whatever you say.
Kid checking if he can swim.
I know about the guilt. I know what it’s like to wake up everyday and just want to black out the pain. The truth is If I could see my wife again, I would do it, maybe that’s why I am here, with this crazy woman standing next to me. Maybe that’s why I haven’t walked away from this all. I guess hope is all we have left.
The girl is alive.
Don’t give the parents false hope.
Kate, everything that has happened today, I don’t know, it’s like you spend your whole life playing this game ad suddenly someone changes the rules.
She doesn’t know he kidnapped her, she thinks he’s her father.
I knew you didn’t take this job for the money.
Just so you know, I still think you’re crazy.
6.5/10

Past Life 1.02

A girl comes to Kate so she could help her sister.
If my PhD degree came out of cereal box then I’ve lost a lot of time at school.
You can feel the vision coming on, but you don’t know what causes them. They started as a flashes, but they’re gotten worse, more intense, more detailed. They’re scary, that’s not the worst part. The worst part is the pain. They make you feel. Not being able to control them.
Why do I keep dying?
You’re not a mad person, you’re just sick. Let me help you.
Or we can break in.
How do you deal with her?
I drink.
She’s coming onto a guy to get information.
Everything says she was a killer in her past life.
The girl is stoned.
It became about you when you started coming to work half drunk.
So I have a drink sometimes, I’m a social person.
Sitting alone at the bar isn’t social.
The guy is about to be executed, but let’s go to a sauna.
What a view, she’s falling off the cliff.
They got her on a tape.
I cried when they stopped the execution.

Past Life 1.03

Two people have the same regressions from two lifetimes.
They were both criminals.
They’re all over each other.
Girl broke the pattern, guy couldn’t.
Kate, I’m here.
Yeah, make yourself at home.
Tequila, I feel the lecture coming on.
Which one do you want? The one where every doctor at some point loses a patient in their carrier or the one where you’re very good at your job?
I go with number two.
You have to accept the fact, that even the great Kate cannot fix everything.
She’s getting more action then two of us combined.
It’s a sad situation, my friend.
And the truth is I actually cried at the end.
2/10

Past Life 1.04

Stigmata. A girl bleeds from hands at a spelling bee competition.
Her head starts bleeding too.
Kate’s mom messing with Kate’s things.
She was a boy who committed suicide.
Finally a little scarier episode.
Kate’s scenes with her mother.
Oh, hun, we’re from Texas.
You are not bad. This is your life. That was his.
Kate comforting the kid.
A test.
The new student is killing for teacher too.
I think he’s depressed, that’s why he cuts himself.
If you pull the trigger, there’s no turning back.
I know what he made you do, but this time you can say no.
When Kate threw the keys.
Oh, sweetie, you’re the one taking care of me?
There, you loved them frozen when you were a kid.
6/10

Past Life 1.05

They uncovered the body and a guy is kidnapped.
Kate gets into a car with a guy.
I’ve driven faster to the drug store for tampons.
They dug out the body.
That might be you.
The fiancée is so weak.
Their lunch talk.

Right after I finished watching Chase and Past life in the first week of August, I watched a few episodes of different shows.

  1. L&O: Criminal Intent 7.5 – Kelli Giddish’s episode
Though I have seen only a few episodes of the series, it is not my favourite part of the Law and Order franchise. The episode was just bad.
    3/10
  2. Without A Trace: 7.5 – Kelli Giddish’s episode
Though most of the team decided to abandon Kelli’s character case, who just happened to be a lesbian and find the little girl, the episode was amazing.
    7/10
  3. L&O – 6.16 – Ellen Pompeo’s episode
Clearly not as e excellent as Ellen’s later episode, the case is not bad and to my big surprise Ellen has brown hair, is super cute and looks way younger than 26.
    6/10
  4. L&O – 16.2 – SVU’s episode
Mariska guest stars and Ice T also appears in one scene.
Why did he die trying to call me?
She gives out thousands cards per year, oh if she gave me one, I would call her everyday.
The case was very good and should be SVU case, as there were the characters that we have previously seen on SVU, so should just air on SVU.
    6.5/10
  5. L&O – 8.3 – Kate Walsh’s episode
Kate in her natural blonde hair color and everyone appreciating how beautiful she is.
    She’s what I dream about.
You want the truth? I stopped listening, I was picturing how she’d look in leather.
This is the woman people tend to remember.
Yeah she is a head turner.
I’ve been trained to control my emotions.
    You never lose control?
Losing control is not an option, you lose control you die.
    6/10
  6. The Good Wife – Kelli Giddish’s episodes
    2.22
There are so many people who can see us right now, but I swear I will scream at the top of my lungs if you don’t get out of my office now.
    Mamie is killing it.
And the judge is enjoying it.
    2.23
Miss me? Now you gotta kiss me.
    3.01
Kelli’s character is stalking Kalinda. I really loved her character and wish she stayed.
  7. ER – All Mariska Hargitay’s episodes
    4.2

William H Macy, Maria Bello and Chad Lowe are also in this episode along with Mariska.
I have already seen this scene, but my, she’s a genius.
They didn’t even like me there. PERFECTION.
A kid is bulimic, wish they showed us the actual conversation.
And yes, she got the job.
    4.3
Julianna’s character is all what the heck is she doing here?
    That was a nice boom.
I hope they’re clean?? Come on, don’t say these things.
    The bulimia patient is back.
    Oh where’s your gun Liv?
So Liv before SVU was afraid of walking home alone?
    4.5
    Who peed in your cornflakes?
Did you just offer him a backrub?
    Clooney knows this stuff.
You’re spending too much time together.
So before SVU Liv gave backrubs and she was good at it.
    4.6
Okay, that was not at all akward.
    4.8
    Drunk laugh.
    4.10
    You have a son?
    That was good.
    4.11
Mariska and Maria play tomagochi at the ER. Oh the 90s, I remember you so well.
What an ass going through her pregnancy pills.
They want to play tomagochi again, but it died.
Maria’s hitting the table with it, amazing.
    4.12
Maria’s eating from the floor, she’s incredible.
Mariska’s character is having a breakdown, nice.
He is not good enough for you, sweetie.
    4.14
Of course they lost her bags.
    Jessica Tuck guest stars.
He doesn’t love her, how can you not love her?
    4.16
I deserve better. Yes you do.
I adored Mariska’s character, she was just awkward and super cute.
  8. Nurse Jackie 1.1
She signed the consent form herself, nice one Jackie.
Did he just grab her boob?
    Maybe a little ox.
    Puke away from the ear.
What do you doctors have against healing people for Christ sake?
    I’m off the clock.
    So am I.
I’m sorry I puked. It won’t happen again.
    It will.
I like to have a clear head. Yeah, good one, Jackie.
    She actually took his picture.
Fuck you, and she flashed his ear.
    Be careful.
    Fuck you.
The show is absolutely perfect, and I hope one day I will have time to watch it.
    9/10
  9. Homeland 1.1
I liked it. I would love to see what does the fingers sequence mean, maybe I will watch it one day, like when I’m on my retirement.

Bones Season 7

23 Thursday Aug 2012

In season seven we finally see Bones and Booth together, whom I have always described as the best partnership on television, I cried when he always took care of her and protected her, especially in the first four seasons. Season 6 was a breakpoint when Bones realized she loves him too, and as a result of that emotion, they hooked up one night, and Bones got pregnant, which I could never forgive the writers, as neither we saw them kiss, nor we saw them go on a date. The seventh season started like they have already been together not for five months but for years, because they were, they just did not realize that for a long time. I was mad at the writers the entire summer, for not showing us the kiss, not even talking about the what happened after the kiss, but the pilot made all those feelings disappear. The problem is, this season lacks in very good and surprising cases. I am writing this in retrospect, the season ended in May and we have late August, and I can honestly and sadly say that I do not remember most of the cases. Sure I remember all the Booth and Brennan scenes and the jokes, but no many criminal cases and I remember most from every previous season. When I read all the notes that I have gathered through the entire year, then yeah maybe I remember like a three or four, but the cases used to be much better, and the characters cared about the victims more. I do believe the season got better after Christine Angela was born. I was very sad the season only had 13 episodes, the show is absolutely genius and I am just grateful it got a full 8th season.

  1. We see Bones and Booth living together and Bones is far pregnant.
    8/10
  2. 2
They’re having a girl! they’re having a girl! little bones! I love the new intro, the bed part most. Hodgins, I love you. do not kill that snake, people! Eating competition, Brennan and Booth jumping with the crowd.
    8.5/10
  3. Did not like it, I don’t know why this season is worse than all the previous ones. Daisy and Prince Charming.
    4/10
  4. Guy’s body is severed and put in boxes. Booth’s father is dead.
    7/10
  5. Angela n hodgins looking through all this post tornado stuff. That song was on repeat for a long time since the premiere of the episode. Tornado was great. but oh my! He played his song as a lullaby for michael! ZZ Top, genius. Hilarious episode. Best of this season.
    7.5/10
  6. We meet the most intelligent killer who will ruin our characters lives.
    8.5/10
  7. 7
The crowd scene, when Bones was trying to get through all the prisoners, and they all started fighting, and Bones just kept walking.
    Jessica Tuck guest stars.
    Christine Angela Booth.
The birth, beautiful, ‘No, it’s not your fault.’
The scene when Booth takes Bones to the hospital for a tour, and she pulls out her ultra violet light watch, and goes all there’s blood everywhere.
    10/10
  8. 8
    She’s very advanced I knew she’d be.
I told the director to send a photo every half an hour.
Wow, I didn’t know they did that.
They don’t usually, but I told her that because of my position, I could get her fired.
How, is there an unsent button?
    Tina Majorino’s back.
Remember me, when you take over the biuro.
    Fin and Michelle, shipping it.
    How quickly Emily lost weight.
The victim’s head under a truck, Bones under a truck, and Booth, trying to pull her off, adorable scene.
Bones talking about the dead woman to Christine. ‘She’s going to be beautiful and quite brilliant, I assume’.
I love how this lady took a photo of Christine’s dirty diaper, and Bones is all this is very nice of her, and says, ‘Thank you, thank you so much’. And Booth goes ‘I don’t think nice was her intention‘, and then takes away the photo from Bones. Bones just walks into the shop and starts talking about the dead woman, but that’s normal.
Unless you have a diaper that needs changing or need to be breastfed, I’m afraid,  I can’t help.

You look particularly lovely today, Dr.Brennan.
Booth told you to say that, didn’t he?
    Poor Arastoo.
    Man was scalped.
    I think she’s feeling a little unattractive.

Where the hell is Jessica Capshaw?
Bones wants to do a little bones project. Yes, I’m in.
I don’t think playing with dead animals is gonna make things all that better. What do you mean Booth, I don’t understand. I’m with Bones on that one.
Hodgins wants a party and Cam doesn’t allow him to have one. Not fair, Cam.
Parker is adorable and does not hate Bones or Christine like I assumed he did.

I begged her to run, and was shocked when she actually did. The writers get a big applause from me.

Cam, you did the right thing and you are my hero.

First of all, it was good to go back to watching movies again, but I am going through some serious TV withdrawals. It has been very hard for me not to start any new tv series, and even reruns don’t help anymore. I have trouble sleeping and functioning. It has been just 5 days, but it is long enough. All I have to do is survive till the 18th of September, then to 25th, and I will have 6 shows each week. But till then at least three films a day. This is what I watched or rewatched this month.

Steel Magnolias

I guess I decided to watch it again, when I heard there will be a remake, which is disastrous, how the hell can they replace THAT cast? And the funeral scene? Sally Field’s performance in that particular scene. Shirley MacLaine’s character. There are many charming scenes and all the ladies are extremely likeable. Everyone is full of class, and the story is filled with adorable jokes. Not replaceable.

10/10

Enter Nowhere

When I am writing my thoughts on this one, I would like to say that Sara Paxton books very good movies. Every actress in 18-25 category should aim for carrier like hers. Since Wes Craven’s remake she has done a lot of good works, and as I’m looking at her IMDB page right now she already has 9 films booked and filmed coming out in 2012. She doesn’t take comedies or pseudo horrors like most of the starlets her age do. Her carrier right now is as good as Kristen Stewart’s before Twilight. She is 24, but still can pass 18. Sure she did some weaker films too, but who didn’t. Enter nowhere and The Innkeepers are examples of a satisfactory carrier. The scenery was mysterious, the acting average, and the plot was promising, till it crashed, hard. For me the scene that cracked me up the most was ‘It looks like Poland.’ The coming in and coming out of the house is a trick well known for the genre, but usually less disappointing. The whole we’re all related idea should definitely be replaced by something else. Even some well know but simple, someone kidnapped us and wants to kill as idea. Unfortunately, filmmakers want to shock people, and there are more and more films which plot’s purpose is to save the world or change destiny. That is how ideas like this, or the recent The Cabin in The Woods are created. I think the rhythm of the film suddenly sped up, and killed the not too good in the first place tension. The atmosphere was good till some point, that’s why the grade is that high.

7/10

Sybil

Sybil will always be my in my top ten favourite films, and Sally’s Sybil will always remain among my top ten favourite performances. This film is the perfection in every second. My definitely favourite display of the multiple personalities character and one of the intriguing cases of child abuse, the toxic mother/daughter relationship which is so rarely showed on screen. We can learn a lot from this film, and come on, we would all want to have a psychiatrist like Sybil’s, the one who actually cares and listens.

Nothing will fit perfect anywhere until I fit perfect.

Is it fun talking like a little girl, Ms. Dorsett?

What the hell did that monster do to you? What happened in the green kitchen?

In accepting Peggy into her arms, Sybil began the deepest healing of her selves. In embracing Peggy, she embraced herself. In calming her, she was calming her own heart. As I watched her becoming mother to herself, I felt my own long motherhood ending. I released what I had held so long. I celebrated the beginning of her emancipation. I let go. Our work together lasted eleven years. Today, Sybil lives peacefully in a small college town where she’s a professor of art. There’s not enough time in the day for her to do everything she wants, but that time in every sense, is her own. She tells me she’s happy. I know she’s free.

10/10

Carriers

I have absolutely no notes from this film, which clearly says something. No, seriously, there are so many viruses films out there that they all start to look the same, just like zombie films. This one, on the other hand, was just okay at the beginning, then very good, when we meet Christopher Meloni’s character, then we have the amazing scene where the kid wants to pee, and the father has to chose between dying with the daughter or living alone. As the car drives away, there’s the beautiful scene when the father walks with the daughter, we prepare ourselves for the inevitable truth, the plot will fall so suddenly, we will not be able to sit in our sits. Then we are just driving. Till that point film was surprising good, we were actually into the story, as we compare it to all the other virus films that we have seen before, like, let’s take Resident Evil for example, and we think ‘oh, this virus film is actually good’. Then the action suddenly stops, there is this one satisfying scene when the older brother leaves his girlfriend behind because she’s infected, and then just nothing. As for the rest of the film, nothing interesting happens.

7/10

Detention

I have never been that disappointed with a film in my life. I was actually waiting for it to come out for two years now, and what do I get for my patient wait? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Do not get me wrong, I did enjoy the 90s references, but the rest was just wrong. I enjoyed the humour, till some point, so I am not giving the film zero points.

Every morning I try to remember that I’m only the second biggest loser to walk Grizzly Hills High. First place goes to the drunk slut who screwed the dead mascot in 1992. But the 90’s are history, and so am I.

I know it looks like such a lighthearted feel-good comedy, being an expecting teenage mom. But let me tell you something, I’ve been principal at this school for five years. Let me tell both of you something, pregnant teenagers are never funny, ever.
I’m not pregnant.
Cut the carbs.

The Art Of Getting By

Screw love, I was surprised by the existential aspect of this film. Freddie’s character was so… to identify with. There is that, and I am an artist too, so there’s another point. Though I did not like Emma’s character, she’s recently booking good films. This, It’s kind of a funny story, Lymelife or Scream 4. When it comes to Freddie, I really enjoyed August Rush, Finding Neverland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but that was some time ago. Rita Wilson always plays my favorite mothers, and she’s the main reason I watched the film. If I’m right, I know I am, that’s that kid from Speak. Why do girls always fall for unemployed struggling artists, like painters or musicians, will never figure this out.

Just be careful, they have an easier time of getting by than you do.

I have no idea what I’m doing here.
I don’t think anybody does, at least you admit it.

I have fears but I thought they were pretty run-of-the-mill: pain, death.
Not me. I fear life.

You’re going to have to start using that brain of yours to access that talent of yours to show that beautiful heart of yours.

“Since the dawn of recorded history, something like 110 billion human beings have been born into this world. And not a single one of them made it. There are 6.8 billion people on the planet. Roughly 60 million of them die every year. 60 million people. That comes out to about 160,000 per day. I read this quote once when I was a kid, “We live alone, we die alone. Everything else is just an illusion. ” It used to keep me up at night. We all die alone. So, why am I supposed to spend my life working, sweating, struggling?…For an illusion? Because no amount of friends, no girl, no assignments about conjugating the pluperfect or determining the square root of the hypotenuse is gonna help me avoid my fate. I have better things to do with my time.”

“Some people say its brilliant, some people say its bullshit and honestly I can’t tell the difference. So you just do it and hope that you’re not fooling yourself.”

“I actually felt something. That doesn’t always happen, it hasn’t happened in a very long time… and I have lived long enough to know that when it does, you should act on it.”

“If you speak even the most rudimentary form of the English language then you’ll understand this: Leave me alone.”

I just can’t shake this awareness of my own mortality. Everything seems meaningless. I just feel like I’m full of shit. I have no idea what I’m doing here…”

Happiness is like something you have to look after.

“Women like being desired. Just throw her up against a wall and start kissing her. Chances are she’ll kiss you back, and if she doesn’t, at least you tried. You’ve got to do something or else you’ll lose her.”

“Every time I think about a subject, or even try to visualize an image of what I think I should paint, I just.. I just feel like I’m full of shit. Like I’m trying to be something I’m not.”

What were you like as a child?
I was such a better person that I am now. I’m serious. I was happy, I was open, I was curious. But I’ll tell you this – I knew it was ending. I was overwhelmed with sadness when I realized I was gonna change, and it’s all most likely gonna get worse. Like a nostalgia for the present, I couldn’t shake it.”

It’s a long life. We’re not done.

I was nothing. I felt like nothing, less than. You changed that.

I have a real problem with motivation.

8/10

The 19th Wife

The first fought that came to my mind was, the music is highly inappropriate. I enjoyed Patricia’s character, the scene when they were cutting her hair and she was crying was really moving. ‘Did they give you a choice? Then it’s not a sin.’ Through most of the film, I was all in tears because I fought they will kill her. Don’t we just all love how Lifetime movies squeeze the tears out of us? I have not read the book, I just read some articles on the topic, and I do not get something. The film says she disappeared in 1907 and was possibly murdered? When all the articles I read said she died in 1917?

7/10

Brake

A guy waking up buried in a box is my favourite kind of thriller. All the ‘slow it down, asshole’, ‘doggie, doggie, come here’ and ‘there’s someone at my window’ really helped to set the tension. The whole idea was very compelling, till the last act, when everything falls apart. Claustrophobic box and dozens of bees, that might have been too much, but no it was just perfectly balanced. When I heard about the car bombs, I knew he was in one. I have been asking myself the question who would die through the whole film, and I thought it would be her, because that would ruin him. Then I totally believed Henry drowned or was blown up when his time was up. If I was the main character I would check photos and messages on that phone, that might have given some hint. ‘Go fuck yourself.’ The idea with her being in an ambulance and him being in a cop car was nicely played. I might have been naive, but I really fought his friend is not a part of this. Every single thing was absolutely perfect about this film, until we find out he somehow survived. When I was thinking that was the stupidest training ever and was all ‘are you kidding me? ‘ and ‘he drowned right, right?’ Tom Berenger you always play a villain so fine. Ah, Washington monument, should have seen that one coming. I was really willing to give it a 10 if he drowned and it was all an after death dream, or if Molly died, and a 9 if there was a big catastrophe. The ending ruined the most perfect thriller.

8/10

The Awakening

Another example of an appealing ghost story idea going wrong. The tension was pretty ample until it all fell into pieces. In the first part I was mad at myself for not seeing it at the cinema and happy to get the poster, but then I realized when it was all heading. One thing I cannot say this film lacked was a beautiful location, the mansion too. Music was discernible at the beginning, then I just forgot about it. The dummer was pleasing. I really enjoyed the idea of her looking at the doll version of herself, that was creepy enough for a ghost story. ‘Lock the door.’ I think most of the people who saw the film figured out who the ghost was when the Tom was following her everywhere. ‘Stop bossing me around.’ ‘She’s very troubled, you have to understand that.‘ I am pretty sure this guy with glasses has some significance that I cannot figure out, which is killing me. I was right to think there were no children there. The whole explanation is highly far-fetched. I knew the scars on her collarbones where significant. I can understand that she has blocked all the bad memories, but she has seen the photo and the kid million times how could she not recognize him? People really try to be more creative and finds some new plot, not a person being the ghost or being the second kid that survived some massacre. The way I read it is she is alive, and I think her death might have actually save the story.

6/10

Doubt

I have decided to go through my film collection, and as It has been more than four years since I have seen this film at the cinema, and as I have been buried under the cushion with my lovely cold, I said why not Doubt? It is not the best priest/boy abuse film, with my personal best and a true masterpiece Bad Education. Here the story is nor proved nor we see the boy suffering, or meet priest’s other victims. We are just chasing the priest and making him confess. ‘God Bless you sister.’ ‘I love this song.’, Meryl’s reaction. The dance looks even more terrible than the previous song. I thought nuns shout pretend they do not see and cover for a priest. Sister James annoyed me then and still does a little, how can she be so naive? I really do believe she just wanted to get rid of the problem to go back to living simply. Why on Earth would she tell the priest that she really believes he is not guilty? ‘Well go back and shut up.’

Though it has been I will step outside the church if that’s what needs to be done, ’til the door should shut behind me! I will do what needs to be done, though I’m damned to Hell! You should understand that, or you will mistake me.

Where is your compassion?
Nowhere you can get at it.

I don’t think Father Flynn did anything wrong.
You just want things to be resolved so you can have simplicity back.

Then why do you look like you’ve seen the devil?

Did you ever prove it?
To whom?
Anyone but yourself?

I have doubts. I have such doubts.

9/10

Funny Games US

A very solid thriller composed as a game. ‘Why are you doing this?‘ ‘Why not?‘ The film was good, and the suspense was on the normal level, but the film sped up when they told her to take off her clothes, then it all started spinning, and suddenly the kid is dead. I do not recall any thriller at this moment where the kid is actually killed, not like in The Amityville Horror where the whole family is killed at the beginning, but when we get to know the kid and their parents, the kid and usually the mother survive, thankfully not here. I really did not like when they rewinded the game, that ruined the credibility of the story, a lot. Sure let’s just sit with that Nokia waiting for it to magically start working…and eat a baguette, cause there is no danger and we are all good, and our son did not just get killed. That may have disturbed me a bit. If my son was shut, I think I would be so devastated, I would beg them to shoot me too. I really expected them to kill the father, not the son. When she shot the guy I was happy, and I was utterly disappointed when they rewinded it. The ending was my definitely favourite kind, everyone dies and the game starts over, with a new family.

8.5/10

The Hunt for the Unicorn Killer

Well spent four hours of my life, based on the true story is a very well made documentary. First he forces her to have an abortion, then he forces her to strip and dance in a club, he treats her very badly and then he kills her. ‘To kill what you can’t have it is a very natural thing.‘

9/10

Mulholland Drive

Let me just start with how much I enjoyed this one. I loved how Rita basked in taking advantage of Diane and making her feel useless and replaceable. That brought a great explanation to the too colourful act two. The only thing that I am still trying to figure out is the meaning of her grandparents (I assume) in the story. The way I see it, they were disappointed with her not succeeding? Some people form the sexual abuse accusation, but I cannot see that. Okay, maybe they were highly demanding, but sexual abuse, what, both of them? I do not see that.

9/10

World Trade Center

The true story of John and McLoughlin and Will Jimeno, 9/11 shown from the side of the rescuing team and their wives and bringing hope to the victims.

We’re not leaving, We’re the Marines, you are our mission.

We prepared for everything. Not for this. Not for something this size. There’s no plan.

This guy. He’s gonna die if you don’t get him out soon. And the only thing in the way is my leg. I want you to cut it off. Just cut if off. I can live without a leg.
I’m not cutting your leg off. I can’t. You’re coming out in one piece, you hear me?
You gotta… Look it’s my leg. Just juice me up and cut it off. If he dies, I die. That’s just the way it is.
Look Will, your partner must be 20 feet deeper. Probably more compacted than you. Even if I cut your leg off, he’s not gonna get out of there for hours. I’m sorry, man. Now, let me do my work.

It’s like God made a curtain with the smoke, shielding us from what we’re not yet ready to see.

“9/11 showed us what human beings are capable of. The evil, yeah, sure. But it also brought out the goodness we forgot could exist. People taking care of each other for no other reason than it was the right thing to do. It’s important for us to talk about that good, to remember. ‘Cause I saw all of it that day.”

8/10

The Accused

My personal favourite Jodie Foster’s performance, and a well deserved Oscar. Also one of my top ten favourite lead performances by any actress. The film is heartbreaking, and the topic of rape is very well portrait.

What the hell are you talking about? You saw me at the hospital, what you think I asked for that? Is that what you think? If that’s what you think then you get the fuck out of my house!

This is what the jury is going to see. And they are going to see the girl too and you can’t tell it from these. But she’s tiny. She’s the most defenceless looking thing you you ever saw.

You don’t understand how I feel! I’m standing there with my pants down and my crotch hung out for the world to see and three guys are sticking it to me, a bunch of other guys are yelling and clapping and you’re standing there telling me that that’s the best you can do. Well, if that’s the best you could do, then your best sucks! Now, I don’t know what you got for selling me out, but I sure as shit hope it was worth it!

Ladies and Gentleman, Mr. Paulson has told you the testimony of Sarah Tobias is nothing. Sarah Tobias was raped but that is nothing. She was cut, bruised, and terrorized but that is nothing. All of it happened in front of a howling crowd and that is nothing. Well, it may be nothing to Mr. Paulson, but it is not nothing to Sarah Tobias and I don’t believe it’s nothing to you. Next, Mr. Paulson tried to convince you that Kenneth Joyce was the only one in that room who knew that Sarah Tobias was being raped. The only one. Now you watched Kenneth Joyce, how did he strike you? Did he seem specially sensitive? Did he seem so remarkable that you said to yourselves, “Of course. This man would notice things other people wouldn’t.” Do you believe that Kenneth Joyce saw something in that room that those three men didn’t see. In all the time that Sarah was pinned down on that Pinball machine that other people didn’t know? Kenneth Joyce confessed to you that he watched a rape and did nothing. He told you that everyone in that bar behaved badly and he was right. But no matter how immoral it may be, it is not the crime of criminal solicitation to walk away from a rape. It is not the crime of criminal solicitation to watch a rape. But it is the crime of criminal solicitation to induce, or entreat, or encourage, or persuade another person to commit a rape. Hold her down, stick it to her, make her moan. These three men did worse than nothing. They cheered and they clapped and they rooted the others on. They made sure that Sarah Tobias was raped, and raped, and raped, and raped. And tell me, was that nothing?

10/10

Taxi Driver

Maybe instead of why I loved the film, obviously, I will say what I did not like about it, like when the main character takes Betsy to the ‘grown ups’ film, that screamed trouble loudly. Sure, I loved how he wanted to take care of all the street trash, but the ending is just too unlikely to happen. All his thinking, Jodie’s performance and everything else was an absolute perfection.

The days go on and on… they don’t end. All my life needed was a sense of some place to go. I don’t believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention, I believe that one should become a person like other people.

I think someone should just take this city and just… just flush it down the fuckin’ toilet.

June twenty ninth. I gotta get in shape. Too much sitting has ruined my body. Too much abuse has gone on for too long. From now on there will be 50 push-ups each morning, 50 pull-ups. There will be no more pills, no more bad food, no more destroyers of my body. From now on will be total organization. Every muscle must be tight.

All the animals come out at night – whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets. I go all over. I take people to the Bronx, Brooklyn, I take ’em to Harlem. I don’t care. Don’t make no difference to me. It does to some. Some won’t even take spooks. Don’t make no difference to me.

Loneliness has followed me my whole life. Everywhere. In bars, in cars, side walks, stores, everywhere. There’s no escape. I’m God’s lonely man… June 8th. My life has taken another turn again. The days can go on with regularity over and over, one day indistinguishable from the next. A long continuous chain. Then suddenly, there is a change.

Listen, you fuckers, you screw heads. Here is a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the cunts, the dogs, the filth, the shit. Here is a man who stood up.

Each night when I return the cab to the garage, I have to clean the cum off the back seat. Some nights, I clean off the blood.

9/10

Nell

What’s not to love? The bar scene was perfectly uncomfortable.

7.5/10

The Dangerous Lives of the Altar Boys

A well discussed issue of brother/sister incest.

I used to let Donny do… things to me.
What kind of things?
Everything.
Wait, Donny who? Donnie, your brother?

First few times I felt smarter than everyone else, sort of dangerous. Do you know that feeling? Then I just started feeling like a monster. Look I was going crazy keeping my secret, I had to tell you. And I’ve been practising what to say ever since we met.
Don’t hurt yourself.
You hate me.
No. I just don’t know.

She told me a secret, you cannot tell anyone.

I think I’m ugly and I’m awful and I don’t know why I came here.

You’ve got to aim lower.
That low enough?
Not as low as fucking your own sister.

I’m the bad one, all right? You can hate Donny and think he’s an evil asshole, but I made him do it. I tricked him one night when he was stoned and then I blackmailed him to doing it all the time. And I loved it. He was all I thought about.

When you look at me, I can hardly breathe.

7/10

Flight Plan

It was a good thriller, not too good though. I have no idea why so many people call it Panic Room 2. Panic Room is perfection, and this is just another thriller. ‘Zawracamy na pokład, Zawracamy na ALTO airlaines’ that was cute, thank you. Through most of the film I was sure the kid died with the father, but then she did not carry two coffins, just one. So there, you got me. ‘Excuse me Ma’am, I’ve got two questions for you. What are the movies and how loud do these headphones go?‘ That is basically me, oh I laughed hard on this one, that is just me. Through the entire film I felt like Jodie was too over educated for this film, she’s a genius. When the masks started falling, I could not stop laughing, that was absolutely amazing, everyone started panicking, and no one knew what was going on. When she accused this Arab guy, and then this other guy wanted to beat him, that was, well, real. The best scene was when she walks with her daughter, that moment of proving everyone wrong. It was nowhere near as splendid as Wes Craven’s Red Eye, but it was good enough.

Miss Pratt, there are 425 passengers on this flight who are not receiving any attention at the moment because every one of my flight attendants are looking for a child that none of them believe was ever on board! If you think we could be doing more to meet your needs, then I suggest you take it up with customer service after we land.

Hey! Your husband didn’t jump off that roof! He flew!

Hey, are you watching this movie? Not too funny. ‘Course at 36,000 feet, you can’t just up and walk out of the theatre, can you?

You just scared the shit out of 400 passengers, people who didn’t plan on spending the night in Newfoundland!

A teddy bear does not constitute an inaccurate passenger manifest.

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m sorry to interrupt, but we’ve got a first to report. It seems our aircraft is big enough to lose a child in. Her name is Julia Pratt, six years old, she is wearing a navy blue jumper. If she’s anywhere near you or perhaps playing with one of your kids, please press the call button now. We’ve got an anxious mom up here. Thank you.

What is she holding?
She’s holding her daughter.

7.5/10

The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane

Through half of the film I though she killed her father. I wish the paedophile/victim relation was actually picked up and better described.

How old do you have to be before people start treating you like a person?

School is having people tell you what life is and never finding out by yourself.

My father had given me a small bottle containing some white powder. He said if she should arrive, I should put it in her tea. Calm her, make her less aggressive. I looked it up based on it properties. Potassium cyanide. Father meant what he said about doing anything you have to to survive. I can still see her red nails holding up that cup. After a few sips she said that the tea tasted of almonds. It’s the almond cookies, I told her.

Maybe you don’t understand about poets: Edgar Allen Poe was a drug addict, Dylan Thomas drank himself to death, Sylvia Plath took her own life.

We worked out every detail, we knew it wouldn’t be easy. Here’s a letter from my father: Don’t give in and play their game, fight them any way you have to, survive. That’s what he said. Then he kissed me and walked off into the trees and down the lane.

The Brave One

What was that? Grown up Iris fighting the scum and criminals? Taxi Driver 2? Cause that’s what it felt like. The film lacked a lot, though not my favourite Jodie’s performance, her Golden Globe nomination was well deserved. The problem is, she was the only excellent thing about the film. The ending was entirely ridiculous. The second act was intriguing, how she tried to cope with the killing, and could no longer be a person she was before. The radio broadcasts were very good as well.

I always believed that fear belonged to other people. Weaker people. It never touched me. And then it did. And when it touches you, you know… that it’s been there all along. Waiting beneath the surfaces of everything you loved.

I should have walked out of that train. I could have just shown them the gun, they wouldn’t have hurt me. Why don’t my hands shake? Why doesn’t somebody stop me?

How did you… pull it back together after what happened to you?
You don’t. You… you become someone else. A stranger.

There is no going back. To that other person. That other place. This thing, this stranger. She is all you are now.

From today I’m starting watching or rewatching all the Oscar Lead Actress Nominees. I have seen most of the films nominated in different categories from 90s and 2000+, but just about twenty before the 90s, I think I will start with the 70s, and I chose the Lead Actress category first. I will most likely skip the romances/melodramas and historical films, but I will definitely watch all the dramas.

Plan for the rest of summer

So far it has been the most stressful, yet the most successful summer of my life, so to deal with that stress I have decided to seize every free minute to relax and rewatch the shows I love. I have just finished rewatching 12 seasons of Law and Order Special Victims Unit, and earlier this summer 5 seasons of Brothers and Sisters. The question is were to go next. I have also started rewatching Sally Field and Rachel Griffiths movies, and I am planning on continuing to do so. I may have aimed higher, and go watch old, most preferably black and white films, that I have not seen yet, but I have decided to postpone it. Right now my aim is to gather strength and get control over my life back. This is the to be updated list of the films/shows I will most likely see this summer.

  1. Chase – A US Marshall show staring Kelli Giddish (already saw 3 episodes)
  2. L&O: Criminal Intent 7.5 – Kelli Giddish’s episode
  3. Without A Trace: 7.5 – Kelli Giddish’s episode
  4. L&O – 6.16 – Ellen Pompeo’s episode
  5. L&O – 10.14 – SVU’s episode
  6. L&O – 16.2 – SVU’s episode
  7. ER – All Mariska Hargitay episodes
  8. Downtown
  9. L&O Trial by Jury- 1.11 – SVU’s episode
  10. L&O – 8.3 – Kate Walsh’s episode
  11. Oz – All Christopher Meloni’s episodes (already saw 2 seasons)

I have made myself a promise not to start a new show, cause my life is about to get busy, and I am already following a hell lots of shows. I watched Homeland’s pilot, and though, sure I got caught in the story, it is not Showtime’s best, and I decided to be strong and not watch any more episodes till my retirement.

I am proud to announce that all the series that I watch got renewed for the 2012/2013 season. And this is the schedule I will be following, I live in another time zone, so I am always watching them at 5am, when it’s Greys or Private Practice, or later that day, when other. Suburgatory starts a little later, and I still don’t know when American Horror Story starts. The Big C will be back, probably next spring, just four one hour episodes. Shameless is back with the 3rd season in January. Cougar Town will be back in January too.

Monday: Revenge (starts Oct 1), Dexter (starts Oct 1)
Tuesday: Bones (starts Sep 18), Castle (starts Sep 25)
Wednesday: Private Practice (starts Sep 26)
Thursday: SVU (starts Sep 27), Suburgarory (starts Oct 18)
Friday: Greys (starts Sep 28)

The new shows I am going to check out: Revolution, 666 Park Avenue, Nashville, Carrie Diaries, Go On, Made in Jersey, Chicago Fire, and… still thinking.

I seriously cannot wait for my TV schedule to get busy. Right now I am watching films, rewatching SVU and patiently waiting for the last week of September.

Welcome to ReviewThisFilm

This website started as weekly reviews on movies and tv episodes, and a diary of the 700 new films I watched every year. Today it’s a place for me to write a few words on films and tv shows that leave some sort of impact on me. I no longer write in depth reviews, partially thanks to bad habits gained by spending many hours a day on Letterboxd, and partially because of my demanding day job.

If you have a film you would like me to watch and review,  please leave a comment.

Enjoy!

About me

I am the dark and twisty Meredith Grey, the mad Dexter Morgan, hoping to grow up to be a little more like the wise, but fun Nora Walker. I am an aspiring filmmaker. My favorite actresses are Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. Favorite genre – psychological drama. I watch anything with a sexual or mental abuse plot. I used to be a horror freak. I am obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, SVU and many more. My other interests include making oil and pencil portraits and wildlife conservation. I cannot say no to beautiful landscapes, travel, Aussie accent, TV/film quotes and avocados. I have recently moved back from Australia to the UK. I’ve been running this blog for the last 9 years. Here I comment on films and episodes I watch. Enjoy! – Joanne

favourite film and tv quotes

‘When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I used to sit in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I’ve met you and moved to Sydney, I haven’t listened to one Abba song. That’s because my life is as good as an Abba song. It’s as good as Dancing Queen.’ (Muriel’s Wedding)

‘I used to think about
your life in New York. I tried to imagine your room. I kept track of the time difference, so I  knew when you were awake and when you were asleep.’ (Disobedience)

‘Nothing’s clean, Howard. But we do our best, right?’ (The Aviator)

‘No, I’m not quitting. I don’t quit things.’
‘No, actually you do. Your mother quit your father. Your father quit you. You quit your boyfriend and if I read your hospital chart correctly you quit your life momentarily on a couple of occasions. You quit. It’s what you know how to do.’ (Greys)

‘Where the hell was I that year?’
‘Your were watching television’. (Everybody Loves Raymond)

‘It’s impossible to worry about anything else when there’s blood coming out of you.’
(Short Term 12)

‘I wanted it to happen. And when we were girls… Even then, it was the same. It’s always been this way! I have always wanted it.’ (Disobedience)

‘Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a moment when our lives change forever. The moment we admit our weaknesses, the moment we rise to a challenge, the moment we accept a sacrifice, or let a loved one go. And sometimes the change in our lives is an answer to our prayers.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Yesterday I went to the movies all day by myself. One after the other. I’ve never done that before. I had a really happy day.’ (Doing Time for Patsy Cline)

‘I just need something to happen. I need a sign that things are going to change. I need a reason to go on. I need some hope. And in the absence of hope, I need to stay in bed a feel like I might die today.’ (Greys)

‘She saved me my whole life. Without her, I’m nothing.’ (The Favourite)

‘Don’t wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don’t. In face of what we can lose in a day, in an instant, wonder what the hell it is that make us hold it together.’  (Greys)

‘Bree sobbed quietly in the restroom for five miutes, but her husband never knew, because when Bree finally emerged, she was perfect.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘I am not food, you cannot just eat and eat.’ (The Favourite)

‘I don’t love him.’
‘Of course you do.’
‘No!’
‘Don’t take me for a fool Olive,  I’m many things but I’m not a fool.’
‘I know that, you’re brilliant.’
‘Don’t you see, it’s over. Whatever this is, was, it’s over.’
‘I love You.’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing, is reason enough to celebrate.’ (Greys)

‘Many years ago, a neighbour and a good friend of ours took her life, and that left us all heartbroken and perplexed. But somehow, when I was alone in that hotel room, I forget about all the pain that she caused. In those awful moments, I thought maybe she had the answer.‘ (Desperate Housewives)

‘What happened last year when you fell in the water?’
‘I almost drowned. Do you think I did that for kicks?’
‘You put your hand in a body cavity that contained unexploded ammunition.’
‘I was trying to save a patient!’
‘Why is it that every other person in that room had the sense to hit the deck? You know people run away from this line between life and death. You seem to stand on it and wait for a strong wind to sway you one way or the other. You’re careless with your life. You’re not slitting your wrists but you’re careless. Probably because your mother told you you were a waste of space on this planet. The problem is you believed her. And if you don’t want out one of these days you’re going to die because of it.’  (Greys)

‘This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in. And I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future. And quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn’t see coming, but that’s really the point. Don’t you think?’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Was your life not working when you let that slip out from under you?’
‘When are you going to stop suggesting that I’m suicidal?’
‘When you start acting like someone that wants to be alive.’
‘Give me my chart.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I’m not suicidal, and if it says that I am, then it’s wrong.’ (Greys)

‘There is nothing wrong with me.’
‘Then show me your arm.’ (Degrassi)

‘Look, my whole life, I have been the freak. The girl who nobody picked for dodgeball. The girl who didn’t have a mom. The girl who dressed funny because it was her dad buying her clothes. And then, tonight I looked at these people, and I thought maybe there’s a future where I don’t have to be a freak. Maybe I can be who I am and that’s okay.’ (Everything Sucks)

‘Dr, I have been this way since…since I can remember. There is no cure.’ (American Horror Story)

‘He was so crazy about me, I couldn’t breathe. So we tried drinking our way back into love, but it never made sense in the morning. So I ran. And every time I came back, he was here. And he was still crazy about me.’ (My Blueberry Nights)

‘Bree van de Kamp had always wanted to live her life with elegance and grace. That is also how she wanted to die. Her plan was to pour herself a glass of her favorite chardonnay, put on her most stylish nightgown and leave behind a note on embossed stationery.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘All we have is this moment. The future is just a fucking concept that we use to avoid being alive today. So be… here…. now.’ (Six Feet Under)

‘On the train coming here, we were in the same cart, I saw you, you were reading and you feel asleep. I didn’t dare to look at you, you were so beautiful, it was scary. Afterwards,  I couldn’t stop thinking about you. It made me smile. Then I thought of all the men who would get to hold you, who’d make you laugh. How lucky they were.’ (Enemy at the Gates)

‘It was a good day. Maybe even a great day. Even when it was hard, I was the me in my head. There was a moment when I thought I cant do this, I cant do this alone. I close my eyes and imagine myself doing it, and I did, I blocked out the fear, and I did it.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a time when we must expose our weaknesses. When our secrets can no longer remain private, when our solitude can no longer be denied, when our pain can no longer be ignored, but sometimes we feel so alone that a weakness we thought we’d overcome suddenly becomes too strong to fight.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Why did you get married, Esti? Why didn’t you just leave? So everything was all right when I left?’
‘No. I was ill.’
‘What sort of ill?’
‘In my head.’
‘If I had to sleep with a man, why not with our best friend?’
‘Oh, Esti…’
‘It hasn’t been a complete disaster.’
‘And that’s enough?! Do you have to have sex every Friday?’
‘It’s expected.’
‘It’s medieval. What happened to you?’
‘Nothing. You happened to me. And then I started teaching and that became important. I give them ambition.’
‘To do what? Push out seven babies and be a good wife?’
‘Don’t. Don’t. I help them to value themselves.’
‘Okay, but what about you?’
‘That is me. And you? Are you happy?’
‘Yes, I am.’
‘Have you been with other women?’
‘No. Not really. And you?’
‘No.’
‘But, Esti… Do you still
only fancy women?’ (Disobedience)

‘OK, then, listen. Let’s not get caught.’
‘What are you talkin’ about?’
‘Let’s keep goin’!’
‘What d’you mean?’
‘Go.’
‘You sure?’
‘Yeah. Yeah.’ (Thelma & Louise)

‘She let me live at Nora’s house. She let me believe that I was a part of their family. I fell in love with that family. What am I supposed to do, just sit there, pretend I’m related to them? I was happy. For the first time in my life I was happy.’ (Brothers and Sisters)

‘You will be left all alone with your bitterness and your rage and your knowledge that you loved her and she loved you and you threw it away for them.’
‘Do you love her?’
‘Yes.’
‘And Have you always?’
‘Yes.’
‘So then ask her.’
‘Olive, will you forgive me?’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘No razors, no scissors, no fucking freedom.’
(Short Term 12)

‘You can’t take a picture of this. It’s already gone.’ (Six Feet Under)
