Less than a month left till everything is back! I couldn’t be happier. The only problem is, that not many shows are actually back this season. These are the shows I review on here and their return dates according to European/Australian calendar. For US it’s all one day earlier, duh. One more TV post next Sunday and I’m ready for the Fall season to start! I’m spending my last days of summer rewatching early seasons of SVU, finishing 30 rock and maybe I’ll have time to start Friday Night Lights as well. Next week I’m back to work and then most of my favorite TV shows come back.

Grey’s Anatomy – Friday September 23rd
SVU – Thursday Sept 22nd
Shameless – Monday Oct 3rd
The Middle – Wednesday Oct 11th – still mad about this premiere date
The Goldbergs – Thursday September 22nd
How To Get Away With Murder – Friday Sept 23rd
Scream Queens – Wednesday 21th
The Simpsons – Monday Sept 26th

AHS – Thursday Sept 15th

Younger – September 29th

Jane The Virgin – October 18th
Transparent – Saturday Sept 24th
Secrets and Lies -Monday 26th – not sure If I’ll follow season 2 though

I will also be following The Voice this year as Candace Cameron Bure’s daughter Natasha Bure will be one of the contestants – The Voice – Tuesday September 20th

New shows I will be following

The Exorcist – Saturday 24th – Geena Davis is in it!
Frequency – Thursday October 6th
Man With A Plan – Tuesday October 25th
This is Us – Wednesday Sept 21

And… Gilmore Girls will be back on November 25th!

Bones 11.14

Good episode, as Bones is being reviewed because of her recent assault on the suspect. Oh and Angela had sex dream about her photography teacher which made me furious.

I’m not sorry for my actions.
They don’t need to know that.
That’s what photography is., finding the truth , the beauty where you least expect it.
You are incorrect again.
I will not be trying, I will succeed.

10/10

Scream 2.05

The school is on lock down and it gets interesting when someone slips Jake’s phone into Emma’s backpack, Emma fights with someone and someone gets killed.

I’ll be right back.
I can’t believe he just said that.
Your friends should be scared too, because they’re all gonna die.
Every time there’s a killer around, there’s always somehow a crazy Duvall left standing.
You know who does that? Serial killers.
You’re my favorite person in the world.

10/10

Scream 2.06

My favorite film is not Terminator, It’s Psycho, but It’s not something you say on the first date.
You’re not a monster. You’re a victim.

7/10

Grace and Frankie 2.08

Woah, they’re really obsessed with vagina talk and they won’t let lube go.

I will make room for cheese.
This is a great movement in history of vagina.
They’re gonna put me on the cover of Lube magazine.
All those years I thought you were stuck up and boring, and as it turns out, you were stuck up and interesting as shit.
Oh shit, storage full.
Would you like us to wait till you delete some pictures.
I can’t lube a vagina with one hand and ,ale an argument with the other.

8/10

Grace and Frankie 2.09

Art happened. Performance art.
She got sick and I couldn’t leave her

2/10

Grace and Frankie 2.10

How could I’ve done this to her

1.5/10

Grace and Frankie 2.11

Grace gets drunk and eats cake.

Why don’t I eat cake more often?
I’m ready to purge.
Because you’re afraid of sex in the vagina.Where do you want her?
How about in the middle of the ocean?

6.5/10

Grace and Frankie 2.12

Now Grace feels sick and guilty for eating the cake. Oh yeah, and for being mean to Frankie.

I ate cake?!
This fucking guy.

4.5/10

Grace and Frankie 2.13

You get something inspiring and I get a vibrator.
Never used a vibrator.
This really explains so much.
You threw paint on Burt Reynolds’ fur coat.
It’s Frankie, the artist.

10/10

Pretty Little Liars 7.02

Jessica’s twin sister explains how she got locked up for something Jessica did and Hanna takes Lucas up on his offer. Both Jessica’s sister and Aria had wonderful speeches this week.

Everyone always believed Jessica. She was the nice one.
Sometimes you find tenderness in the place you’d never expect. And that’s all any of us really needs.
You’re right, I want this.
I think you were seduced by your English teacher in high school.
What if there was a button that I could push. I would push it and all the people that shouldn’t have died would still be alive.
But If I pushed that button I would be gone too. I am me, because of what has happened, what I’ve done and because of who I love.

10/10

Pretty Little Liars 7.03

That’s what he used on me.

Grey’s Anatomy In Preparation for Season 13

Season 13 starts September 22nd and this is just a summary of where we left of and what my expectations for the next season are.

My second favourite show, after the cousin from the same family, Private Practice. The first episode of Greys I watched was the ‘Heart in the Elevator,’ but the episode that got me into the show was the bomb in the heart two-parter. I know many people loved the show the first couple of seasons and then just stopped watching, which I will never understand as it’s so addictive it’s one of these shows you can’t put it down. How do you go on with your life, not knowing what Meredith and the gang are up to? I was flipping through channels one day and I asked my dad whether he’s seen this show and my dad said ‘Oh yeah I know it, it’s really good. So that’s the main character and she has an Asian best friend and they’re surgical interns.’ I was hooked. Season 12 ended 4 months ago and my mom has been asking me about S13 promo since the beginning of August. She really wanted to know what was Deluca’s condition and if Karev would be charged with assaulting him. In season 13, I expect to meet Jo’s husband. I’m really scared about Arizona’s love life, as Calzona was the absolute endgame and has always been my number 1 Greys couple even over Merder. I want Meredith with the New Zealander. I hope they won’t introduce any new interns or doctors.

How about you? Do you think you can wait another month for Greys to return?

Vegan Tuck Box July 2016 Review

I don’t usually post food reviews on this blog, but veganism is a big part of my life, and I decided to spice it up a little bit. I have been vegan for 6 years, and vegetarian for 7. Now that I’ve eaten all the July snacks, I wanted to share what I liked and why unlike a few other snack companys, I keep my subscription. I do understand that there is no way to fully meet someone’s snacking needs, but Vegan Tuck Box does understand my high expectations.

Vegan Tuck Box July 2016 and how much I liked the snacks

Kent Crisps Seasalt & Biddenden Cider Vinegar

Regular chips that taste like Apple and Vinegar, not the best combination. It’s bitter, duh. It took me a few days to eat it, but I guess it’s good in a way, as I couldn’t binge on it. And maybe that’s the point.

My rate: 3/10

Kintaro Almond Nut Clusters

One of the best snacks (not just vegan) that I have tasted. The minute I ate this bag, I ordered a box of 7 rice and nut clusters from the Kintaro website. After trying all of them, I do believe this one is the best, almost equally amazing one is the Strawberry Rice one. There’s also a nut one, chocolate/banana one, green tea one and a spicy one. Almond and strawberry are definitely the ones I’ll keep reordering.

10/10

YumEarth Organics Anti-OxiFruits

Delicious, vegan, sweet and 200% of daily required Vitamin C in one. If you have sensitive teeth, don’t eat more than one. I know the struggle. I gave the sweets to my parents to try and they keep asking me for more! I ended up giving them the whole bag. I am considering repurchasing them, but there is so many of them in the bag, 30, maybe? Running out will not happen any time soon.

9/10

Go Max Go White Cleos

Peanut butter covered in white chocolate! I know! Two of the most delicious guilty pleasures in one! Salty and sweet in one deal. Even new vegans know how hard it is to come across a vegan milk chocolate, let alone a white one! I bet you’re getting sick of that dark one too. The snack was a little too sweet, so I suggest you don’t eat both cookies at once.

8/10

So Sweet Couture Chocolate

It’s a shame that vegan companies forget vegans drink the very appetizing soy milk. Without it, chocolate just doesn’t taste like right. If you like orange chocolate in general, you won’t mind the not so delectable snack.

1/10

Lenny & Larry Birthday Cookie

One big soft and spongy cookie. Too big to eat it in one sitting, unless you’re really hungry.

6/10

Hoots Cheese and Onion

Yummy and yes, the cheese is vegan! It’s baked too! If you have weak teeth, try to break it in half first. If you miss cheese crisps, or cheese in general, you must get them!

7/10

Shire Snax Peppermint Patty Bar

Tastes like a mint protein bar. If you’re into minty things, go get it. My rate has nothing to do with the taste or quality of this bar, it’s just that I don’t like minty bars.

4/10

Holy Lama Spice Drops

Unnecessary, but tasty. I will continue adding it to my cereal.

5/10

Wholebake Flapjack

Like a regular flapjack, just a little drier. And too big.

7/10

Inspiral Incan BBQ Kale Chips

I am very biased on this one, as I hate kale chips and kale in general, so I can’t say anything nice about this product. I know this will affect the average rate of this month’s box, but I need to stay true to myself.

0/10

Ten Acre Strawberry and Cream Popcorn

Woah, what a treat! Both mouth-watering and sweet! Second favourite this month and a must-have!

10/10

Castle 8.21. Bones 11.11. Bones 11.12. Bones 11.13. Scream 2.09. Scream 2.10. Grace and Frankie 2 (episodes 1-7)

Castle 8.21

Yes, I still haven’t seen the series finale, and I don’t plan on seeing it anytime soon. It took me 2 years to watch Private Practice’s finale and I still haven’t watched Dexter’s finale.

Someone breaks into Castle’s office and Castle is sure he is marked for death. It’s one of the most hilarious episodes that will make me miss Castle dearly.

Hello, it’s the Omen!
I’m marked for death.
That same flash of light appeared in the crime scene photos.
If by people you mean Satan.
He’s dead, so unless you have an Ouiji board.
I am being targeted by evil forces.
I saw his eyes. It was the demon.
Your husband has been marked for death.

10/10

Bones 11.11

I like how late in the year Bones now is. I can watch everything I need to and leave Bones for late August for when I’m stressed about not having any other shows for another month. After the break, Hodgins is all cranky and can’t seem to get pass his accident. Who can blame him?

You are so much more than this job.
That’s right. Bill me.
You don’t adjust kids’ art.
A man who treats a woman like dirt is not a man at all.

6.5/10

Bones 11.12

A wonderful Hodgins centred episode. Bones punched a guy! Again! And it was the funniest thing in a long time.

I have plenty of feeling. Anger, rage.
Royal Diner is our spot, don’t change it because of me.
All bitches need to be muzzled.
Booth, stop, you could lose your job for striking a civilian. Where I could face disciplinary action at most.
The jaw is so swollen he couldn’t tell if he wanted to.
Now you’re looking at me like a piece of meat.
I would never look at you like that, I’m a vegetarian.

10/10

Bones 11.13

This episode is everything the next season of Bates Motel will be. And Bones just got a new villain.

There’s no evidence the killer did anything sexual with the diseased.
You mean like taxidermy?
He lived with the body for an extended period of time.
For at least 6 months.
He spoon fed them.
Ever think you’re a little cray-cray yourself?
It’s the perfect location for serial murder.
In a way he and I are very similar.
He was turning his victims into marionettes.
You were right mommy, there are no monsters.

10/10

Scream 2.09

Aside from me and your mother, who else has been in your room?
Oh yes please, keep playing dumb.
Why is that picture upside down.

8/10

Scream 2.10

What an incredible episode. Noah and Zoey were buried alive and one of them could not be saved.

Please come save me.
I’m not gonna give you that satisfaction.
Of course I do, because you’re just my head saying what I already know.
She’s still down there.

10/10

Grace and Frankie 2.01

I watched it in June and was too lazy to rewrite my notes. The first episode was probably the weakest, with everyone stressing about not telling Robert about Sol and Frankie.

Are you fucking kidding me?
I don’t care why you became a rabbi.
I have 40 years of anger built up.
Last year when I said…I didn’t mean it.
By the power invested in me by the world wide web.

3/10

Grace and Frankie 2.02

Hilarious. Vin Diesel fucked Frankie.

Sol fucked Frankie. Sent.
Some shit is going down.
Vin Diesel fucked Frankie.
I’m so happy it was Vin Diesel who slept with my mom.
Whatever Mary-Louise, why don’t you go work at McDonalds.
Who’s Vin Diesel?

7.5/10

Grace and Frankie 2.03

Not as good.

That’s where I doodle.
All of Downton Abbey.
Be the bossy hamster with a drinking problem. They’re the ones who inspire their grandchildren to become writers.
I am gayer than you.

3/10

Grace and Frankie 2.04

Awful.

Ditch the booze.

1.5/10

Grace and Frankie 2.05

Frankie takes the driving test and it’s fun. Also, Still Alice is mentioned.

I’m not like that one with that guy with that redhead.
You too Judas have sold me up the river.
Fuck your take a break.
You were high when you studied.
Will you spend the rest of your life being roommates with that hippy nutbag?
This year she’s also been there for me in a very real way.
When the DMV is more fun than brunch with old friends.
You wanna talk about it?
I love you for that question, but no, thanks for now.
Why does it have restricted written on it?
I passed my written test, but my eyes didn’t. So no nighttime driving.
Great, so you have half a licence and I have no friends.
Or I had more license than I had yesterday. And you may have a new best friend. Best friends!
Kill me now.
Give me the keys. It’s getting dark.

10/10

Grace and Frankie 2.06

Frankie throws a bon-voyage party for her friend and Grace is not happy with it.

I painted this with my vagina.
I hated every job I ever had.
I thought we fired him.

4/10

Grace and Frankie 2.07

Sadly I don’t remember this episode well enough, but I did give it a 10.

This is a Lifetime movie.
I’m a member of Peta.
Animals are getting smarter.

Dead of Summer so far (episodes 1-6)

dead

The show only had 3 good episodes so far (out of 6) and honestly, I’m only watching it for Elizabeth Mitchell. The way her character dresses and wears her hair is exactly same as her Lost character. I am always playing the ‘spot Lost references game’ while watching this show and they mentioned ‘Dharma’ a lot. Dead of Summer is a show from Lost producers, but the audience mainly consists of teenagers and Juliet Burke fans. I still can’t believe it’s been 6 years since Lost ended. How beautiful is this poster though? Scroll down to see 3 more.

Dead of Summer 1.01

One of the weakest pilots out there, at least someone fell off the roof.

3/10

Dead of Summer 1.02

Yikes, awful!

0.5/10

Dead of Summer 1.03

The third episode, best so far focuses around an overweight girl who loses her virginity to an asshole from school, who laughs at her in front of his friends, the morning after. Her father sleeps with younger women, and her mother knows and agrees to it, as she believes that’s all she deserves.

Don’t tell your mother, she’d die.
Mom, you deserve better.
Women like us sometimes have to settle. – A wonderful and depressing sentence.
My life took a wrong turn. I didn’t become the person I wanted to be.

5/10

Dead of Summer 1.04

A wonderful episode, focusing around the transgender character. It beautifully showed how the boy’s mother couldn’t accept his gender, even though he’s been telling his mom he feels like a boy since he was a little kid. There’s an inspiring moment when the mother finally understands that Drew is a boy, yet it’s too much for her and she moves out and leaves the teenager alone in an empty apartment with a note saying she can’t live with the fact that her daughter is no longer there. Bonus, look out for Lost references.

Life is a series of moments that don’t happen to you. Moments, that if you’re brave enough, you can help create.
I saw you Drew.
What did you call me?
Your name, it’s Drew. You’re a boy. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
Seeing you is a reminder of what I lost.
This tape that you gave me, I gave you 6 years ago.
I’m sorry. Are you crazy!?
There was never an Andrea.

10/10

Dead of Summer 1.05

One of the main characters were killed off.

0.5/10

Dead of Summer 1.06

Finally the Elizabeth Mitchell centric episode. What’s with the kids desperately wanting to play with an ouji board.

Camp’s been closed for years.
What happened to us. We were gonna save the world!
I guess the world changed.
I can’t lose you. Not again.
Maybe you didn’t save the world, but might just be able to save these kids.
It wasn’t supposed to be like that. You were supposed to be here too. We were supposed to be here together.

Paper Moon

A masterpiece, the only flaw is that color film was introduced years before Paper Moon was filmed, yet the picture is black and white.

9/10

Little Darlings

The 80s and teen films. Little Darlings is fantastic, go watch it.

7/10

An American Crime

Not detailed enough, but nonetheless, a great portrayal of this tragic story.

7/10

mygeisha wherelove harlow.jpg

My Geisha

The characterisation sure seemed a little too easy, as Shirley really did look like a Geisha. The storyline though, very sixties. I won’t see it again.

5/10

Where Love Has Gone

Expected so much more.

3/10

Harlow

The 60s biopic is not entirely accurate, especially the sickness and death part. Tedious too.

2/10

wherethewild vertical

Where the Wild Things Are

If you’re over 10, you won’t find it interesting. Adorable and inspiring at times.

4/10

Vertical Limit

A disaster film not so disastrous, yet not worth remembering or even watching.

3/10

motellife WutheringHeights-CustomDVDCover

The Motel Life

Good at parts, terrible at others. Definitely not a film I’ll ever see again.

5/10

Wuthering Heights

The MTV version staring Erika Christensen and Katherine Heigl is boring, over-dramatic and yet kind of satisfying.

3.5/10

Welcome to ReviewThisFilm

This website started as weekly reviews on movies and tv episodes, and a diary of the 700 new films I watched every year. Today it’s a place for me to write a few words on films and tv shows that leave some sort of impact on me. I no longer write in depth reviews, partially thanks to bad habits gained by spending many hours a day on Letterboxd, and partially because of my demanding day job.

If you have a film you would like me to watch and review,  please leave a comment.

Enjoy!

About me

I am the dark and twisty Meredith Grey, the mad Dexter Morgan, hoping to grow up to be a little more like the wise, but fun Nora Walker. I am an aspiring filmmaker. My favorite actresses are Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. Favorite genre – psychological drama. I watch anything with a sexual or mental abuse plot. I used to be a horror freak. I am obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, SVU and many more. My other interests include making oil and pencil portraits and wildlife conservation. I cannot say no to beautiful landscapes, travel, Aussie accent, TV/film quotes and avocados. I have recently moved back from Australia to the UK. I’ve been running this blog for the last 9 years. Here I comment on films and episodes I watch. Enjoy! – Joanne

favourite film and tv quotes

‘When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I used to sit in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I’ve met you and moved to Sydney, I haven’t listened to one Abba song. That’s because my life is as good as an Abba song. It’s as good as Dancing Queen.’ (Muriel’s Wedding)

‘I used to think about
your life in New York. I tried to imagine your room. I kept track of the time difference, so I  knew when you were awake and when you were asleep.’ (Disobedience)

‘Nothing’s clean, Howard. But we do our best, right?’ (The Aviator)

‘No, I’m not quitting. I don’t quit things.’
‘No, actually you do. Your mother quit your father. Your father quit you. You quit your boyfriend and if I read your hospital chart correctly you quit your life momentarily on a couple of occasions. You quit. It’s what you know how to do.’ (Greys)

‘Where the hell was I that year?’
‘Your were watching television’. (Everybody Loves Raymond)

‘It’s impossible to worry about anything else when there’s blood coming out of you.’
(Short Term 12)

‘I wanted it to happen. And when we were girls… Even then, it was the same. It’s always been this way! I have always wanted it.’ (Disobedience)

‘Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a moment when our lives change forever. The moment we admit our weaknesses, the moment we rise to a challenge, the moment we accept a sacrifice, or let a loved one go. And sometimes the change in our lives is an answer to our prayers.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Yesterday I went to the movies all day by myself. One after the other. I’ve never done that before. I had a really happy day.’ (Doing Time for Patsy Cline)

‘I just need something to happen. I need a sign that things are going to change. I need a reason to go on. I need some hope. And in the absence of hope, I need to stay in bed a feel like I might die today.’ (Greys)

‘She saved me my whole life. Without her, I’m nothing.’ (The Favourite)

‘Don’t wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don’t. In face of what we can lose in a day, in an instant, wonder what the hell it is that make us hold it together.’  (Greys)

‘Bree sobbed quietly in the restroom for five miutes, but her husband never knew, because when Bree finally emerged, she was perfect.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘I am not food, you cannot just eat and eat.’ (The Favourite)

‘I don’t love him.’
‘Of course you do.’
‘No!’
‘Don’t take me for a fool Olive,  I’m many things but I’m not a fool.’
‘I know that, you’re brilliant.’
‘Don’t you see, it’s over. Whatever this is, was, it’s over.’
‘I love You.’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing, is reason enough to celebrate.’ (Greys)

‘Many years ago, a neighbour and a good friend of ours took her life, and that left us all heartbroken and perplexed. But somehow, when I was alone in that hotel room, I forget about all the pain that she caused. In those awful moments, I thought maybe she had the answer.‘ (Desperate Housewives)

‘What happened last year when you fell in the water?’
‘I almost drowned. Do you think I did that for kicks?’
‘You put your hand in a body cavity that contained unexploded ammunition.’
‘I was trying to save a patient!’
‘Why is it that every other person in that room had the sense to hit the deck? You know people run away from this line between life and death. You seem to stand on it and wait for a strong wind to sway you one way or the other. You’re careless with your life. You’re not slitting your wrists but you’re careless. Probably because your mother told you you were a waste of space on this planet. The problem is you believed her. And if you don’t want out one of these days you’re going to die because of it.’  (Greys)

‘This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in. And I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future. And quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn’t see coming, but that’s really the point. Don’t you think?’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Was your life not working when you let that slip out from under you?’
‘When are you going to stop suggesting that I’m suicidal?’
‘When you start acting like someone that wants to be alive.’
‘Give me my chart.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I’m not suicidal, and if it says that I am, then it’s wrong.’ (Greys)

‘There is nothing wrong with me.’
‘Then show me your arm.’ (Degrassi)

‘Look, my whole life, I have been the freak. The girl who nobody picked for dodgeball. The girl who didn’t have a mom. The girl who dressed funny because it was her dad buying her clothes. And then, tonight I looked at these people, and I thought maybe there’s a future where I don’t have to be a freak. Maybe I can be who I am and that’s okay.’ (Everything Sucks)

‘All we have is this moment. The future is just a fucking concept that we use to avoid being alive today. So be… here…. now.’ (Six Feet Under)

‘On the train coming here, we were in the same cart, I saw you, you were reading and you feel asleep. I didn’t dare to look at you, you were so beautiful, it was scary. Afterwards,  I couldn’t stop thinking about you. It made me smile. Then I thought of all the men who would get to hold you, who’d make you laugh. How lucky they were.’ (Enemy at the Gates)

‘It was a good day. Maybe even a great day. Even when it was hard, I was the me in my head. There was a moment when I thought I cant do this, I cant do this alone. I close my eyes and imagine myself doing it, and I did, I blocked out the fear, and I did it.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a time when we must expose our weaknesses. When our secrets can no longer remain private, when our solitude can no longer be denied, when our pain can no longer be ignored, but sometimes we feel so alone that a weakness we thought we’d overcome suddenly becomes too strong to fight.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Why did you get married, Esti? Why didn’t you just leave? So everything was all right when I left?’
‘No. I was ill.’
‘What sort of ill?’
‘In my head.’
‘If I had to sleep with a man, why not with our best friend?’
‘Oh, Esti…’
‘It hasn’t been a complete disaster.’
‘And that’s enough?! Do you have to have sex every Friday?’
‘It’s expected.’
‘It’s medieval. What happened to you?’
‘Nothing. You happened to me. And then I started teaching and that became important. I give them ambition.’
‘To do what? Push out seven babies and be a good wife?’
‘Don’t. Don’t. I help them to value themselves.’
‘Okay, but what about you?’
‘That is me. And you? Are you happy?’
‘Yes, I am.’
‘Have you been with other women?’
‘No. Not really. And you?’
‘No.’
‘But, Esti… Do you still
only fancy women?’ (Disobedience)
