Hope Floats

Mae Whitman’s performance and her character’s storyline was what made it a film worth viewing. Without the daughter storyline, the film would be half as good. I loved how she set her mind on her father wanting to take her with him. I loved how she wouldn’t let go and kept putting her suitcases into the car, and how the father did not want her. I was surprised when someone else died, when they spent a few scenes on us getting to know the father. The kid telling her mother’s bachelerotte to leave her alone as her daddy was coming back for her and her couldn’t behave at the funeral and running to him just when the priest stopped speaking, was essence of the film. The girl getting beat up by the overweight girl for wearing glasses and accidentaly hitting her with a volleyball at P.E. and her cousin telling her mother that she lived, where necessary for the film. This was favorite performance by Mae after Parenthod, and she really should have gotten her part in Independence Day 2 and we all know it. I also was surprised how well the scenes where Bertie’s high school friends reacted to her public somewhat humiliation. They were all snarky and happy she wasn’t a prom queen anymore. Getting this on DVD for sure.

‘I know that I’m not what I once was. I know that! But I haven’t changed so much, that I would go and lie to someone that I love. God, I would walk through fire before I’d let them feel like they were nothing! And I would never break up anybody’s home. Because I am not a quitter. I care about my family!’

‘Childhood is what you spend the rest of your life trying to overcome. That’s what momma always says. She says that beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it’s the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning. Just give hope a chance to float up. And it will.’

8/10

Independence Day

Good enough, especially for a sci-fi film, yet lacked something. I enjoyed the cathastrophic and postapocalypic element of it, and yet it just did not seem real if you can say that about a scifi film. I hated that the one character I routed for did not make it. I loved that Mary’s character did not make it and a little Mae Whitman asked the Serpent and the Rainbow character if ‘Mommy’s sleeping now’. I watched a little of V and I love Contact, and adored Interstellar this year, yet I can’t quite swallow why was this one such a hit in the 90s and why do they want to make another one. But then, maybe I’ll never get alien movies, and that’s okay, I suppose. You can’t like them all.

7/10

American Reunion

I recently tried to watch Band Camp, the first part of American Pie that did not include the original cast, except Eugene Levy and it sucked so bad, I turned it off after 20 minutes. The original four though, are incredible. The reunion brought tears to my eyes, because it’s been 13 years from the first, we saw them all grown up, but not at all changed. There were parts I did not find quite as funny as the first two, but my favorite was when they got into a fight with the high school boys, and Michele went all get away from my husband, you shithead, and when Stiffler shamelessly shat into a guy’s portable refregirator. I hated that Fincher did not get together with Stifler’s mom or that Jim’s mom was dead. At least Stifler got back at Fincher by sleeping with his mom. When they walked into that reunion all in line, just like in high school, I cried. I need another part. They promised to see each other every year, as it looked like they haven’t really stayed in touch, at least not with Stifler.

6/10

Parental Guidance

I had it on DVD along with my new copy of Cheaper By The Dozen. I now have three Cheaper by the Dozen DVDs, and needlesly to say, It was not half as good as the latter. It was half as good as the CBtD sequel though. The one funny thing about this show was the scene at the customs were Bill Crystal’s character’s says ‘Let me make that easier for you as the customs guard was growping him, and then he coughed. A cute family film, you won’t probably watch again, unless you have it on DVD.

4.5/10

Yours, mine and ours

I am not gonna lie, and admitt it took me three tries to finish this film. That’s how boring it is. I am always down to watch new family films, but I should have just skipped this one. It lacked a major conflict, and the plot was neither funny nor interesting. The kids lack personalities the Bakers had in Cheaper By the Dozen.

2.5/10

Friday the 13th

I remembered so little from the remake that I decided to watch it, and along with it, the genius original. The original is almost as good as Halloween and is definitely one of five best horror films made. And man, does year ’79 look good, or what? Simple life, and those people have no idea what’s coming. I have never been a fan of the 21st century, and my country was in a real bad shape in the 70s and 80s, so I find 70s and 80s country side/small town films fascinating. It’s like I’m watching Moonlight Mile and feel like being the town’s only post office worker would actually be enough for me. It’s one of the films I watch a few times a year. Now going back to Friday the 13th, I always adored that the hitchiker gets killed before getting to the camp, and that they don’t show us the killer till the very end. I don’t remember my reaction once they showed out almost a decade ago when I watched it for the very first time. I wish they played it on TV, it’s unbelievable how hard it is to come across a 70s or 80s film anymore. Television stations should really understand that just because something is new does not mean it’s good and you really should not play it over and over again. Friday the 13th, if I hear they’re playing you on tv, I’ll tell every one to watch, because you are a real treat not only for horror fans. I am planning to rewatch the second, third and fourth part this month as I miss the simplicity of horror films.

10/10

Friday the 13th Remake

Not truly a remake, as this is just another killing, and the blondie from the original did not kill the lady in the woods, but over the pond. I hate how people try to present something in a new way, where they really just shouldn’t. Why was the summer house located so close to the Camp Blood? 20 years after the original deaths from 1958, town’s people are freaking out when they here the kids want to go there. They must have heard about the killings from over the years, and yet, no one warns them. Well, just one lady, but she doesn’t really warn them, she just tells the main boy to let Jason be. Now, Jason keeps one of the girls locked up as she looks like his mother. And he ties her up, yet listens to what she says in the end. Why would he tie her up then. I don’t know why kids think they can just take someone’s stuff. You are really brining it on yourself. Why was Danielle Panabaker listed as the first on in the credits, if she didn’t make it to the end?

5.5/10

It Follows

Everyone who says this is special, has not seen enough horror films. I have seen over 300 horror films in my life through classics, independent and crappy low budget ones, and let me tell you this was not good. Tension? Barely. Other that that, nothing special. We have seen kids screwing to get rid of a curse not once. I see all the similarities to at least ten films of the genre, I hear you when you say you tried to hire a Catherine Deneuve from Repulsion lookalike. But Repulsion is a masterpiece this could never be. And you did not cast a Deneuve lookalike, you casted a Gwen Stefani lookalike and that’s perfectly fine. But since when can you shoot a ghost? A mediocre film, and a slight disapointment.

Flash of Genius

A well done portrayal of a man who thought for decades for what was his. A wonderful biography.

7/10

Heller in Pink Tights

A fun film with Sophia Loren about a theatrical troupe and a live triangle.

6/10

Ghosts of the Abyss

David Cameron goes back to the Titnic to record some footage of the wreckage. A beautiful film, that deserved more awards than Titanic.

8/10

Nightwatch

A nice thriller/horror, the only thing the film is missing is tension, as it only hd some at the beginning, and it quickly turned out to be a prank.

6/10

Mixed Nuts

A hilarious film, I haven’t had that much fun in a long time. Liev is fantastic as a transgender and every keeps this film at an A-level humor. We need more films this fun.

10/10

Grease 2

It must have been impossibly hard to follow the footsteps of the first part. The songs were weaker, the story still fresh, but overall, not even close.

5/10

The Bling Ring

The 2010 version was so much better, here all the kids did was party and steal and there was absolutely no depth to them. This was my second attempt to watch this film, this time successfully. I liked Sophia’s suggestion that Nikki’s sister was involved, but never caught, well both sisters actually.

5/10

Jesse Stone: Thin Ice

Have not seen any other parts, but was nicely surprised with this one, the ending is a little unpredictable in its simplicity.

5/10

First Daughter

Why do they only play bad movies when I turn on the tv? I can’t even describe how horrible this one was. I’ll take What a girl wants with Amanda Bynes or Chasing Liberty with Mandy Moore any time.

2/10

Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade. American Pie.Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Who is Clark Rockefeller? Rachel Getting Married. The Wedding Pact

I am feeling so unproductive, that I am writing yet another post this week, I have more than 200 watched films to review, I better not leave it till summer.

Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade

The old gang goes to the 5th grade and gets invited to a super secret 5th and 6th graders club. Two of them go along with ‘feeling better and priveledged’ as opposed to everyone younger, epecially the 1st graders, and the remaining four must do everything to stop it. It wasn’t Recess’ best, but for a kids film it was a 5.

5/10

American Pie

Finally convinced myself to watch it, as there was absolutely nothing on tv and I had access to tv only for two weeks, which included only 4 days to watch. What I’m trying to say is, I loved it. I am again not sure about watching the other parts, as I hate oversexed films, and I really don’t want to know new characters, but the first one was absolutely hilarious.

We tell mom we ate it.

7/10

Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit

I still haven’t seen the first one. This ine was witty and very lifetime-y and I’m glad I decided to watch it.

6/10

Who is Clark Rockefeller?

Speaking of lifetime, a story about the biggest fake of recent years should be less, uhm, home made.

3/10

Rachel Getting Married

Dissapointed, I have been postponing watching this one for years too, and I liked it at parts, the beginning was awesome, but then it fell apart.

4/10

The Wedding Pact

That one I watched on my 2 week holiday, and it was weak, but the ending was very sweet and kind and the film had the romantic feel required for a film to classify as a romcom.

Welcome to the Dollhouse

A rape threat turned a love story. A great film about life in middle school, you can count it as a coming out film, even though it’s based in middle school. We all liked how indifferent the main character was about her little sister dissappearing. And how rape was presented as a completely normal thing. The film as a whole is extremely relatable, the parents are predictable, with lines like ‘Youre not leaving the table until you tell your sister that you love her’, and of course Dawn never did. But how can any parents keep Weiner as their name, none of us will ever know.

‘Special people equals retarded. Your club is for retards.’

‘You better get ready, cause at 3rd o’clock I’m gonna rape you.’

‘Dawn, tell your sister you love her. Dawn, you do not leave this table until you tell your sister that you love her!’

‘Case closed, she’s a loner.’

‘Do you think about girls?’
‘Are you kidding? I want to get into a good school. My furute is like important.’

‘Drop dead, lesbo.’

9/10

At Middleton

An attraction no one saw coming. It seemed so innocent and within a couple of hours turned into a love story. I honestly thought this film would be mediocre, and I loved every single minute of it. And they probably never saw each other again. Vera Farmiga is as always, fantastic, and her little sister plays her daughter.

So, what are you going to study?
I’m just keeping my options open.
Mmm, yeah, that’s a really strong department.

What’s the rush?
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a now kind of girl.

You were right, Middleton’s not so bad.
Let’s take the long way home.

8/10

The Calling

A very averge horror with Susan Sarandon and David Sutterland that I waited for over a year. I really hoped it be better. I only liked the scenery and Susan’s character and how unconcerned she was about everything but a vodka bottle.

3/10

Mom’s Night Out

Nicely surprised, especially the second time I watched it. I tought it was too long and focusing on finding the missing kid was a little waste of a fun screenplay, but the second time around it felt funny. Unfortunately, still my favorite part is when the credits come on and they party. Sarah Drew is just as awesome as on Greys and Daria.

6/10

The Family Stone

I love watching Christmas films in March/April. The scene when Sarah is pushed and covers herself in eggs and they all fight and are fall down is my favorite. The film is very While you Were Sleeping, but not even close to being that good. Great ending.

“I know this is probably a tall order, but I need you to do me a favor.  Try not to be so perfect.  Alright?  I’d hate to see you miss out on something because you have this picture in your mind or you thought you could change something you can’t.  I’d hate to see you not find what you really want.”

That’s me and you, kid.

I don’t care whether you like me or not!
Of course you do.

She has got this throat-clearing tick… it’s like she’s digging for clams!

5/10

Babysitter’s Black Book

When a lifetime movie is more than average. I waited a little more than a year for this one and it was just as good as I thought. I loved where they all ended up. Following Spencer Locke’s career since Resident Evil, the only film with Spence I did not like was Tarzan.

6/10

Nothing Like the Holidays

It was funny, but ordinary at the same time.

4/10

Birdman. Cake. Paddington. Alexander and the Horrible Terrible Not so Good Nad Very Bad Day. The Gambler. Adult World. The Notebook. The Best of Me. Dear John.

Birdman

One of the films that stays with you a few hours after leaving the theatre. And a few hours later, I found myself thinking of this is a film an every man would enjoy, and sadly I don’t think so. This film is made for film/theatre/tv people as it focuses on what it is like not so much on working in the industry, but trying to show your work and make sure it matters. As a person who studies film, and is a control freak, who as the main character, has written, directed and starred in their work, and who has tried to execute it to the best of my competence and time, I can see how overprotective an artist gets over their work, sometimes and not so uncommonly, to the point of insanity. I wanted it to win a Golden Globe for best picture, at least the Oscars Academy shared my views. Was Emma Stone’s performance worthy of the Golden Globe and Oscar nominations?

10/10

Cake

A very relatable character in a not so special movie. Don’t read the imdb page, as the critics have given it a 49/100, which, according to the fact that half of mediocre horror films have more is a misunderstanding, and why you should never judge a film by some critic’s review. Watch it yourself, what do you have to lose, besides 1.5h? I have missed seeing Felicity Huffman in films. After Transamerica her carreer should have been taken to a new level. Good thing, she has a new show coming up next week. Is it Jen’s best performance and was it worth a Golden Globe nomination? Wouldn’t it be better if let’s say Marion Cotillard for it? Or Hilary Swank for It’s not you? Was the short Britt Robertson’s character trying to make it as an actress storyline really nececary? Shouldn’t Jen’s character kill herself at the end? Don’t you think it would be better if she never got kicked out of the therapy. Shouldn’t William H Macy had a bigger part than getting beaten by the main character. It had a lot of potential, but did not reveal half of it.

6.5/10

Paddington

The first I heard of this film was when I was in a British cinema sometime in October. I thought the idea of there finally being a Paddington bear film was a 10, and even though it’s impossible not to get emotional at the end of the kids film, this one lacked a lot. It was good for an animation, but not off the charts. Even seeing Hugh Boneville in the dress did not make me laugh as much as it should. And as much as I get the books, people being okay with a bear walking around, seemed at least strange.

6/10

Alexander and the terrible, horrible, not so good very bad say

I haven’t read the book, and for someone who has been obsessed with everything Australian, they crossed the world to live there, embarassing does not begin to cover it. Nothing more awkward when the only Aussie in the class does not get to do a presentation on Australia and the kid who gets it, mistakes Australia for Austria. The funniest part was Kerris Dorsey’s character drinking the cough syrup and getting high on it, ans Steve Carrel telling her to stop drinking it. This scene was very me. Did the mini van missing a door remind you of another Steve Carrell film? Miss Sunshine that is. Also, why does every single teen film right now has Bella Thorne in it? I would kill for someone to throw an Aussie themed birthday party for me.

6/10

The Gambler

I expected it to be much worse, and at the beginning it really was. It should have had more Jessica Lange, but overal, I liked it.

6.5/10

Adult world

Very nicely surprised with this one. A young writer stuck in the job she hates trying to start her writing carreer? Sounds too close to home. What’s even better her carreer started off just at the place she was forced to work in. Fourth favorite Emma Roberts film after It’s Kind of a Funny story, the Art of Getting By and Wild Child.

And this quotation I sent to my fellow writer friend the minute I finished waching the film, will go to the widgets when I renovate the site tomorrow.

‘You don’t suck, Amy. You don’t anything yet. That’s the point. You might be a great writer. Someday. I don’t know. You haven’t even lived yet. Go to jail, you know? Become a nun. Right now you’re just a suckling, little piglet. Just go out and live your life and get your heart broken.’

7.5/10

The Notebook

One of those girly films girls watch. I wish we didn’t know a grown up version of him was reading to her, I wish we saw them at the very end, this way it would bring some sort of shock and make the film that much better. I haven’t read the book, but I one or two great scenes, the lunapark scene when he jumps on the spinning wheel or my personal favorite, when they lay on the street? I wish I was that kind of person who jumps up and down on these kind of sories, but for some reason romance films aren’t for me.

5.5/10

The Best of Me

Like I said, I’m not a big fan of romances, but this one was missing something. I see all the mirrors to The Notebook, and I like the 20 year gap. Her son getting his heart was the most predictable thing I’ve seen in months. And how did he turned out to be brain dead if he got shot in his collarbone? I enjoyed the flashbacks and hated the present. I liked Liana in this, but the film was reaching and it never did. I doubt any of her films will ever be as good as Trust. Trust is a masterpiece.

3/10

Dear John

And I thought The Best of Me was cliche and predictable, this one was forcing the happy aural on a potentially sad story. Again, I haven’t read the book, but I bet it was easier to read it then watch. It was so bad it ached me to watch it. The very only scene I liked was when she jumped on him at the airport, that’s it. The bond they used to share by writing was great too, but I did not see that affection during those two weeks they spent together.

Congrats to Julianne Moore on winning a Golden Globe for her fantstic role in Still Alice. Here are the remaining Golden Globe nominated films this year. Plus Unbroken, which should have been nominated.

The Theory of Everything

…was everything. Eddie outshined everyone in the lead actor category. If he doesn’t win an Oscar, the Academy’s wrong. Felicity’s competition is too tight to leave her with a statuette next month. A beautiful story, like all of the nominated ones. I wish It could win best picture.

10/10

Boyhood

From the director of Dazed and Confused comes a story that feels like a teen film, but for some reason feels profound. Must me the 12 year shooting period? Nah, it’s the kids and Patricia and the directing and the coloring and the ‘Now it’s only death left scene’. It will probably win all best film awards.

9.5/10

The Imitation Game

My dad argues with me it isn’t historically correct, and I’m not in a posision to argue with a history fanatic. Benedict did a fantastic job. I love that it touched homosexual plot just slightly and wasn’t over excessive. I loved the casting and the flashbacks.

Six minutes… is that even possible?
No, it takes me eight. You’re finished?… Five minutes forty-eight seconds.
You said to finish under six minutes.

8/10

Unbroken

This film is incredible, It should get so much more recognision. So should Angelina Jolie. It’s her third picture and by now we can see she’s on the right way to being a genius director.

9/10

Whiplash

It could only be better if it was a true story. J.K. Simmons will win all the awards. Should have been nominated for best picture.

10/10

Big Eyes

With your Big Eyes and your big lies…
How come Lana didn’t win best song? And why wasn’t it nominated for best comedy? I have already seen it twice. I always loved Margaret’s Ulbrich’s work and wished this part of her life was portrayed. I am not sure if throwing the matches through a key hole was what actually happened, but It had me stunned. All the terpentine mentions for someone who was an oil painter and art major in high school and for whom terpentine was the one smell that stuck for months, I admired all the mentions. Christopher’s acting throughout the whole scene and the ‘I’ll have you whacked’ made this film my fourth favorite film this year.

10/10

Into the Woods

Doesn’t bring anything new to the famous musical, and barely anyone can sing and yet everyone would kill to be a part of this film.

I was raised to be charming, not sincere.

6.5/10

Selma

Good, but not 12 years of slave. All the bridge scenes are impressive, the story should have been more detailed and they should have defenitely strech it to Dr. King’s death. Unfortunately, it was boring at times. I truly thought a story this great could have been shown more significantly. And they definitely should have hired more famous black actors and not just Oprah, especially since they gave her only an episodic role.

7/10

Inherent Vice

This was without a doubt Paul Thomas Anderson’s most messed up film. I have worshipped Magnolia and Boogie Nights for years. Films like The Master, There Will Be Blood, Hard Eight or Punch Drunk Love were all mastepieces. And yet this one, I just could not swallow, even when Paul teamed up the Walk the Line duo Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

Rest in peace, Edward Herrmann, a man of many talents. We’ll remember your fantastic roles in countless films. And maybe, just maybe, one day I’ll watch Gilmore Girls and instead of crying buckets of tears of grief and feeling honored to have fallen in love with your Richard Gilmore, I’ll only feel honored and proud. I hope your work will forever be loved and aknowledged.

First films of year 2015. I promised not to watch any bad or mediocre ones and I kept the promise so far, well not really, but It could have gone much worse.

The Goonies

One of my favorites of Steven Spielberg. It has everything, wit, friendship, adventure to begin with. Shame only one of the kids had great carreer, they were all incredibly bright and talented. I could simply rewatch it straight away.

8/10

The Apartment

No one is surprised about those 5 Oscars. Simply genius. So are performances of Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine, but that’s no surprise either. It was funny and sad and it had the right amount of romance.

9/10

Jaws

I could not stop myself from rewatching it for the 10th time. I always loved that the show off dies, this scene remains my favorite.

10/10

Along Came A Spider

Or the first Alex Cross book. It was just as good as Kiss The Girls. I remember how mesmorised I was by James Peterson’s Kiss The Girls when I read it when I was ten. And then I saw the film and it was lacking something, but I don’t think Along Came A Spider is. Morgan Freeman is Cross and I tried to watch the new Alex Cross and I couldn’t make it past 15 minutes. I will never be able to see anyone else as Cross, as Morgan did that Morgan thing where he aces his roles every single time. It also features young Monica Potter and If you haven’t read the book, you’re in for a surprise. By the end of it I started getting nostalgic already, and all I could think of was, why aren’t all thrillers this good.

8/10

Death Valley

I watched it in honor of Edward Herrmann, sadly his character sang only in one scene. A movie itself was very mediocre. I admired the first half when the boy was the main character.

3/10

Wind Chill

I can’t explain this one, I wanted to watch a horror similar to Dead End, as I’m still not over how good it was. Even though the ending was predictable, it had so much charm. Wind Chill, though a similar storyline, fell apart really quickly. Why didn’t she go to the phone tower earlier?

Welcome to ReviewThisFilm

This website started in 2010 as weekly reviews of movies and tv episodes, and a diary of the 700 new films I watched every year. Today it’s a place for me to write a few words on films and tv shows that leave some sort of impact on me. I no longer write in depth reviews, mostly thanks to bad habits gained by spending many hours a day on Letterboxd.

If you have a film you would like me to watch and review,  please leave a comment.

Enjoy!

All I do is watch movies, the good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes I make my own.

Check out my latest film (120K+ views on Youtube):

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP3Iz23hD7M

I’ve seen over 6000 films and 220 TV shows. I have a degree in Film Production, and wrote my dissertation on Italian neorealism. I mostly gravitate towards social issues films, anything Ken Loach, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica or Jafar Panahi, etc.

I rate films within genre. I watch a lot of films on Mubi, Filmbox Arthouse. My favourite directors are Yasujiro Ozu, Ken Loach, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Zhang Yimou, Roberto Rossellini, Ingmar Bergman, Brian De Palma, Vittorio De Sica and Andrzej Wajda. My favourite actresses have always been Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. I’m nostalgic and reminisce a lot. I’m at the cinema 10 times a month. And I’m a Polish-British millennial.

I will watch anything:

psychological | arthouse | foreign | independent | drama | horror | lgbt | strong female characters | female centred films | dysfunctional families | sexual assault | troubled childhood | mental health issues

About me

I am the dark and twisty Meredith Grey, the mad Dexter Morgan, hoping to grow up to be a little more like the wise, but fun Nora Walker. I am an aspiring filmmaker. My favorite actresses are Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. Favorite genre – psychological drama. I watch anything with a sexual or mental abuse plot. I used to be a horror freak. I am obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, SVU and many more. My other interests include making oil and pencil portraits and wildlife conservation. I cannot say no to beautiful landscapes, travel, Aussie accent, TV/film quotes and avocados. I have recently moved back from Australia to the UK. I’ve been running this blog for the last 9 years. Here I comment on films and episodes I watch. Enjoy! – Joanne

favourite film and tv quotes

‘When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I used to sit in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I’ve met you and moved to Sydney, I haven’t listened to one Abba song. That’s because my life is as good as an Abba song. It’s as good as Dancing Queen.’ (Muriel’s Wedding)

‘I used to think about
your life in New York. I tried to imagine your room. I kept track of the time difference, so I  knew when you were awake and when you were asleep.’ (Disobedience)

‘Nothing’s clean, Howard. But we do our best, right?’ (The Aviator)

‘No, I’m not quitting. I don’t quit things.’
‘No, actually you do. Your mother quit your father. Your father quit you. You quit your boyfriend and if I read your hospital chart correctly you quit your life momentarily on a couple of occasions. You quit. It’s what you know how to do.’ (Greys)

‘Where the hell was I that year?’
‘Your were watching television’. (Everybody Loves Raymond)

‘It’s impossible to worry about anything else when there’s blood coming out of you.’
(Short Term 12)

‘I wanted it to happen. And when we were girls… Even then, it was the same. It’s always been this way! I have always wanted it.’ (Disobedience)

‘Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a moment when our lives change forever. The moment we admit our weaknesses, the moment we rise to a challenge, the moment we accept a sacrifice, or let a loved one go. And sometimes the change in our lives is an answer to our prayers.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Yesterday I went to the movies all day by myself. One after the other. I’ve never done that before. I had a really happy day.’ (Doing Time for Patsy Cline)

‘I just need something to happen. I need a sign that things are going to change. I need a reason to go on. I need some hope. And in the absence of hope, I need to stay in bed a feel like I might die today.’ (Greys)

‘She saved me my whole life. Without her, I’m nothing.’ (The Favourite)

‘Don’t wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don’t. In face of what we can lose in a day, in an instant, wonder what the hell it is that make us hold it together.’  (Greys)

‘Bree sobbed quietly in the restroom for five miutes, but her husband never knew, because when Bree finally emerged, she was perfect.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘I am not food, you cannot just eat and eat.’ (The Favourite)

‘I don’t love him.’
‘Of course you do.’
‘No!’
‘Don’t take me for a fool Olive,  I’m many things but I’m not a fool.’
‘I know that, you’re brilliant.’
‘Don’t you see, it’s over. Whatever this is, was, it’s over.’
‘I love You.’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing, is reason enough to celebrate.’ (Greys)

‘Many years ago, a neighbour and a good friend of ours took her life, and that left us all heartbroken and perplexed. But somehow, when I was alone in that hotel room, I forget about all the pain that she caused. In those awful moments, I thought maybe she had the answer.‘ (Desperate Housewives)

‘What happened last year when you fell in the water?’
‘I almost drowned. Do you think I did that for kicks?’
‘You put your hand in a body cavity that contained unexploded ammunition.’
‘I was trying to save a patient!’
‘Why is it that every other person in that room had the sense to hit the deck? You know people run away from this line between life and death. You seem to stand on it and wait for a strong wind to sway you one way or the other. You’re careless with your life. You’re not slitting your wrists but you’re careless. Probably because your mother told you you were a waste of space on this planet. The problem is you believed her. And if you don’t want out one of these days you’re going to die because of it.’  (Greys)

‘This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in. And I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future. And quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn’t see coming, but that’s really the point. Don’t you think?’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Was your life not working when you let that slip out from under you?’
‘When are you going to stop suggesting that I’m suicidal?’
‘When you start acting like someone that wants to be alive.’
‘Give me my chart.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I’m not suicidal, and if it says that I am, then it’s wrong.’ (Greys)

‘There is nothing wrong with me.’
‘Then show me your arm.’ (Degrassi)

‘Look, my whole life, I have been the freak. The girl who nobody picked for dodgeball. The girl who didn’t have a mom. The girl who dressed funny because it was her dad buying her clothes. And then, tonight I looked at these people, and I thought maybe there’s a future where I don’t have to be a freak. Maybe I can be who I am and that’s okay.’ (Everything Sucks)

‘Dr, I have been this way since…since I can remember. There is no cure.’ (American Horror Story)

‘He was so crazy about me, I couldn’t breathe. So we tried drinking our way back into love, but it never made sense in the morning. So I ran. And every time I came back, he was here. And he was still crazy about me.’ (My Blueberry Nights)

‘Bree van de Kamp had always wanted to live her life with elegance and grace. That is also how she wanted to die. Her plan was to pour herself a glass of her favorite chardonnay, put on her most stylish nightgown and leave behind a note on embossed stationery.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘All we have is this moment. The future is just a fucking concept that we use to avoid being alive today. So be… here…. now.’ (Six Feet Under)

‘On the train coming here, we were in the same cart, I saw you, you were reading and you feel asleep. I didn’t dare to look at you, you were so beautiful, it was scary. Afterwards,  I couldn’t stop thinking about you. It made me smile. Then I thought of all the men who would get to hold you, who’d make you laugh. How lucky they were.’ (Enemy at the Gates)

‘It was a good day. Maybe even a great day. Even when it was hard, I was the me in my head. There was a moment when I thought I cant do this, I cant do this alone. I close my eyes and imagine myself doing it, and I did, I blocked out the fear, and I did it.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a time when we must expose our weaknesses. When our secrets can no longer remain private, when our solitude can no longer be denied, when our pain can no longer be ignored, but sometimes we feel so alone that a weakness we thought we’d overcome suddenly becomes too strong to fight.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Why did you get married, Esti? Why didn’t you just leave? So everything was all right when I left?’
‘No. I was ill.’
‘What sort of ill?’
‘In my head.’
‘If I had to sleep with a man, why not with our best friend?’
‘Oh, Esti…’
‘It hasn’t been a complete disaster.’
‘And that’s enough?! Do you have to have sex every Friday?’
‘It’s expected.’
‘It’s medieval. What happened to you?’
‘Nothing. You happened to me. And then I started teaching and that became important. I give them ambition.’
‘To do what? Push out seven babies and be a good wife?’
‘Don’t. Don’t. I help them to value themselves.’
‘Okay, but what about you?’
‘That is me. And you? Are you happy?’
‘Yes, I am.’
‘Have you been with other women?’
‘No. Not really. And you?’
‘No.’
‘But, Esti… Do you still
only fancy women?’ (Disobedience)

‘OK, then, listen. Let’s not get caught.’
‘What are you talkin’ about?’
‘Let’s keep goin’!’
‘What d’you mean?’
‘Go.’
‘You sure?’
‘Yeah. Yeah.’ (Thelma & Louise)

‘She let me live at Nora’s house. She let me believe that I was a part of their family. I fell in love with that family. What am I supposed to do, just sit there, pretend I’m related to them? I was happy. For the first time in my life I was happy.’ (Brothers and Sisters)

‘You will be left all alone with your bitterness and your rage and your knowledge that you loved her and she loved you and you threw it away for them.’
‘Do you love her?’
‘Yes.’
‘And Have you always?’
‘Yes.’
‘So then ask her.’
‘Olive, will you forgive me?’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘No razors, no scissors, no fucking freedom.’
(Short Term 12)

‘You can’t take a picture of this. It’s already gone.’ (Six Feet Under)
