Last year I followed 50 shows, but this year, I followed just 38. Next year I’ll probably have around 30, as many of my shows have ended. Pandemic affected every aspect of our lives including our TV shows. Netflix cancelled all of their shows that I found interesting. Ozark, Dead To Me and Grace and Frankie will end next year. Whereas, Fuller House, 13 Reasons Why and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina have ended. And The Society was all ready to start shooting season two when it was cancelled abruptly. I think this officially means I will have no Netflix shows in 2022.

Shows I watched that ended in 2020: Fuller House, How To Get Away with Murder, 13 Reasons Why, The Society, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Carol’s Second Act, Little Fires Everywhere and Schooled.

Shows that were on the list this year, but aren’t this year: Orange is The New Black, The Handmaid’s Tale (no new episodes until 2021), Younger (no new episodes until 2021), The Morning Show (no new episodes until 2021), Big Little Lies, The Unbelievable, The Act, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, Veronica Mars, Divorce, For The People, When They See Us, Chernobyl, Looking for Alaska, The Loudest Voice, The Insatiable, Light as a Feather and Soundtrack.

Crikey it’s the Irwins didn’t return, but will next year. No new episodes of American Horror Story either.

News shows that joined this year: Little Fires Everywhere, Mrs America, The Undoing, Locke and Key and Ratched, Away.

I also rewatched all of Desperate Housewives with my family. I watched the new seasons of Grey’s Anatomy Season, Fuller House, Dead to Me and Good Girls twice. I also watched Ratched, Little Fires Everywhere and Mrs America twice.

1. Grey’s Anatomy

Meredith has Covid and they may or may not try to kill Koracick off. We learn that Teddy is bisexual and the girl she was seeing and was in love with, died in one of the Twin Towers. We learn that Teddy named her daughter after her. It’s a good finale, but it’s not Greys good, simply because the final four episodes were cut short by coronavirus. Teddy cheats on Owen for the last time, and Owen overhears it over the phone. De Luca figures out what’s wrong with Richard. He recently had a hip replacement and the cobalt from the new knee has caused an infection. Sex trafficking victim comes back in the new season’s premiere.

2. SVU

Renewed for three more season. Only on of the episodes from the new season was good. Mariska pretends she’s on Grey’s Anatomy and goes undercover as a doctor. Amanda gets temporary custody of her sister’s kid. That doesn’t go according to plan, as the father overdoses. Amanda’s mother moved to New York to help her out, yet we haven’t seen her since?

3. Shameless

Ian and Mickey got married and sadly this is the show’s last season.

4. Fuller House

I still cannot believe we were blessed with such fantastic dose of nostalgia. I remember how happy I was when Fuller House was announced 5 years ago. I loved how they managed to re-enact some of the most famous scenes from Full House including Stephanie driving Joey’s car into the kitchen, Steph and DJ’s telethon performances and so many more. I’m just so happy and sad at the same time. Full House and Fuller House will always be a part of me. Thank you for coming back, Full House. Thank you, Fuller House. See you in 20 years, Fullest House!

5. Carol’s Second Act

A very average sitcom starring Patricia Heaton.

6. Ratched

My favourite show this year. A beautiful love story starring Sarah Paulson and Cynthia Nixon.

7. Mrs America

A very good show on the women of the 60s and 70s struggle to get the Equal Rights Amendment ratified. It stars Rose Byrne as Gloria Steinem and Cate Blanchet as Phylis Schlafley. Gloria Steinem said she declined to participate in it because it put two women against each other instead of focusing on showing the fight for women’s rights.

8. When Calls the Heart

I enjoyed Rosemary’s struggle to have a baby. Henry is still a mess after Abigail’s departure. In this season finale Elizabeth lands a book deal and struggles with picking between the two men that have been in love with her all season. Elizabeth hugs Nathan at the end of the episode and now I ship them, possibly because the other match is too full of himself. Clara gets everyone excited about her wedding and asks Bill to walk her down the isle. While we’re dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic, Hope Valley is infested with chicken pox.

9. Station 19

My absolute favourite scene of the year is the one where Captain Herrera sacrifices his life for Andy and the Station 19 team. We learn Andy’s mom is still alive, which is the opposite of what her father let her believe. Maya’s father visits and abuses her by pulling her hair. Maya then decides to chop her ponytail off. She then runs to Karina, apologises to her and they get back together. Teddy Altman witnesses it and tries to help Maya convince Karina to take her back.

10. One Day At a Time

The show was cancelled yet again. Ray Romano guest stared in one episode and they should have done everything in their power to keep him. After getting cancelled by Netflix last year and being picked up by Pop, the writers throw a diss at Netflix in the very first minute of the season. Penelope and abuelita argue over female masturbation, after Penelope’s son walks in on her and her toy. Rita Moreno has a wonderful monologue by the end of the episode about how where she grew up is no longer her home.

11. The Goldbergs

Adam is now a senior. Will they continue the show next year? Didn’t the real Adam Goldberg go to NYU film school away from his family? We learn that the real Adam Goldberg got into NYU by submitting a great play he wrote.

12. Schooled

Lanie breaks up with Barry, she goes to see Clueless, dresses like Cher and has a Cluless realisation about CB. The finale was cute, but the show got cancelled right after. Does this mean AJ will be going back to The Goldbergs?

13. How to Get Away with Murder

One of the best shows ended. Annalise realises she’s gay, not bi and comes out to her mom. Laurel’s the witness and Michaela testifies that Annalise and Wes were having an affair. Tegan and Bonnie gush over Annalise. Hannah is found dead. Goodbye, How To Get Away With Murder, you were so good! Thanks for being a wonderful addition to my life for the last 6 years! Now I’m forever stuck crying over Frank and Bonnie. Bonnie doesn’t make it and that’s the one thing that leaves me heartbroken. No one deserved a happy ending more than Bonnie. Wes’s son riding his bike just like Wes did in the opening scene of the show and then taking over Annalise’s How To Get Away With Murder class? Brilliant. And he went to Middleton and Annalise was his mentor? Tegan finally professes her love to Annalise, who turns her down, or does she? They’re seen dancing in flash-forwards.

14. Killing Eve

I haven’t caught up yet.

15. Ozark

Laura Linney’s character has her bipolar brother killed. Julia Garner finds love with said brother before that happens.

16. Good Girls

This season could have been so much better.

17. Thirteen Reasons Why

I hated this season, but lets remember the show for what the first season is.

18. This is Us

Kevin now has twins with Kate’s anorexic friend.

19. 911

This season involved, Buck pulling himself down on a rope and breaking a window. Then the rope caught fire and they jump on the inflatable safety mattress, a pervert using a drone to stalk his future victims. Henrietta does a tracheotomy on a patient. Boy gets stuck in a well just like in The Descent. Eddie goes down to get the boy out, but the team lifts him too early and he decides to cut the rope that holds him. He’s close to drowning when he decides to swim and finds his way out. A kid gets stuck in an air balloon, after her mother doesn’t even think to hold onto the rope, after disembarking the balloon first. Kid is saved after Buck jumps into the balloon. A lady gets electrocuted after car-jacking a truck, later a male gets stuck in a freezer. There is a train derailment and Abby’s big comeback! Good for Hen for wanting to go back to school, I just hope there’s a way we can keep her on working weekends. I’ll miss her too much.

20. 911 Lone Star

Katherine’s daughter Dylan from Desperate Housewives plays Liv Tyler’s little sister. She also suffers from schizophrenia, and to everyone’s surprise, is actually alive. I didn’t know Liv Tyler sings? Obviously she’s Stephen Tyler’s daughter, but never expected her to sing? Rob Lowe’s son is shot by a kid. Everything electric dies in a solar storm. Michelle is attacked and her long lost sister finds her. A plane lands on electric wires and Owen climbs an electric tower and then slides across to the plane. Meanwhile his son tries to save a drowning bus driver. Astronauts are burned by radiation, one of them makes a phone call home, and dies while on the phone with his little daughter. Another The Descent reference! Why on Earth would you go exploring random caves. A kid stuck a little racing car up his nose and the father does the same to see how the kid got it up there so far.

21. The Resident

The Resident has a pandemic while we’re going through real life pandemic. It took them 3 episode to realise the respirator hasn’t been cleaned.

22. Modern Family

I usually cry uncontrollably during series finales, and yet I didn’t get emotional once. All kids have moved out with Alex moving to Switzerland, Luke to Oregon for college and Mitch, Cam, Lily and the baby move to Missouri.

23. Riverdale

I cannot believe they’re doing the 7 year time jump. Everything that happened since Jason’s killer being revealed and Blackhood turning out to be related to one of the 4 leads, the show has been a mess.

24. The Simpsons

I still love it, but I haven’t caught up since last season. he Simpsons adopt Santa’s Little Helper’s mom.

25. The Good Fight

Again, I haven’t caught up yet.

26. The Good Place

The final three or four episodes aired in 2020 and the ending was sad, and yet I didn’t share a single tear. I don’t think I’ll miss this show that much.

27. Absentia

I still haven’t caught up.

28. F For Family

This show is awesome.

29. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

I’m in the middle of watching the final season that came out today and it’s pretty entertaining. I will miss this show.

30. Dead to Me

Another wonderful season full of twists. I know a lot of people ship Jen and Judy, and I do too, I wasn’t at first because this show was a perfect example of queerbating, but thanks to tumblr I now am. In season two we learn that one of the girls is bisexual and is seeing a girl for three episodes. We learn that Jen didn’t shoot Steve, she killed him with a wooden bird that belongs to her younger son. Noisy neighbour is still noisy and almost exposes Jen by accident. Steve has a twin brother and at first I was very disappointed with the twin twist, but it grew on me. I loved the scenes in the bar where the girls pretend to be related to the bride to get free drinks, get hit on, just so Jen can throw in the fantastic line about getting one more jig in before throwing themselves off the bridge and another one liner about singing Hallelujah! Jen’s older son Charlie finds Steve’s car and thinks it’s his birthday gift. Jen finds out her son found the car and to dispose of evidence she decides to set it on fire.  Judy gives Charlie the sex talk. Charlie attends the vigil and sees pictures of Steve in his car with his baseball cap on, the very same one his girlfriend wore in the pictures they took. Katey Segal aka Peggy Bundy, as in Christina Applegate’s mom from Married With Children plays Judy’s mom! In this episode Jen tells Judy the truth about Steve’s death and she doesn’t take it well. Judy wants to confess to the crime, but Jen ends up confessing herself. She leaves an ‘In Case of Emergency’ binder and writes three letters, to Judy and each of her sons. Jen turns herself in and leaves the kids to Judy.

31. The Politician

Only watched it for Judith Light and Bette Midler.

32. Grace and Frankie

Frankie getting Grace off the toilet is ultimate friendship goals.

33. Little Fires Everywhere

I loved this show and I have now purchased the book.

34. Locke and Key

This was surprisingly good.

35. The Undoing

Good mini series. How would Nicole’s character ever get any clients after she failed to notice who her family member really was.

36. Liar

I haven’t caught up. That 3 year break was two long.

37. Away

I loved this Hilary Swank space mini series.

38. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

A new musical starring Jane Levy and Lauren Graham.

I’ve finally caught up on HTGAWM and here’s part 1 of my notes. What I like the most about this season is that Annalise finally comes to terms with her sexuality and questions whether she really is bi or maybe she’s gay, but was to afraid of being stigmatised. She also admits she should have stayed with Eve and only pursued her ex husband because she was afraid to be gay.

How To Get Away with Murder 6.05

This season is so much better than the previous two, because Laurel isn’t here. No one cares about her and her father’s mafia. She doesn’t return until episode 14 and I’m thankful for that.

I did some shots before coming here out of respect for your sobriety.
Do you know how much I admire you?
I was afraid to be gay.
I should have stayed with Eve. I loved her. But I wanted to be normal. I wanted to be accepted.
You know who’s not an bastard? Asher.
Why’d you choose Sam over Eve?
Because he looked like a version of life I dreamed about my whole childhood.
I don’t love you anymore.
He was saying Laurel to you becuase you helped her disappear.
I love you, Bonnie. I love you so much.
That account has over 200 000 in it.
Salomon, it’s time to pay up.

7/10

How To Get Away with Murder 6.06

Bonnie tells Connor about her childhood abuse.

He wrote you a blank check too?
I was scared, I never spoke in class.
You quit us.
Why was I picked for the K5?
Annalise didn’t pick you, I did.
Frank chose Laurel, I chose you.
You wrote about getting a gay conversion camp shut down when you were an undergrad. I’m an abuse survivor, Connor, when I was a kid. So to know that you stood up for those kids when no one else would. I wanted to know you.
I’m sorry that happened to you.
That was a long time ago.
So was me being a guy who helped people. It’s like he died with Sam. I think I was hoping whatever reason I got picked would explain why I am this way.
You’re not a bad guy, Connor.
I’m just tired.
We all are. Nothing good comes from hating yourself.
You deserve a lot more good then what you’ve had.
So do you.
If you’d been through what we’ve been through, you’d learn to fight too. Otherwise, you’re dead before you even died.
I’m the most powerful I’ve ever been.
Tell everyone to destroy their phones.
I was all alone. You want to talk about depressed. I thought about killing myself.
Maybe it’s time to go to Oregon.
Please don’t ever show up in my life again.
They’re not my family, you are.
I’ll never leave you, Michaela, Even if we don’t end up together, I wanna be there for you for the rest of your life. I’m still in love with you Michaela. I always will be.
He’s not the one Michaela, It’s me.
Asher?

10/10

How to Get Away With Murder 6.07

I think this is my AirBnB.
It’s just some idiot.
But there is Parkland, Sandy Hook, whenever it happens next.
It’s scary to be a teacher in America today.
It’s scary to be a student.
The love of my life… Bonnie.
I know more than you’ll ever understand the self hatred of being in this closet.
The hate because of what he knew about me. The thing that I’ve most hated about myself.
I know that she deserved better than you.
You are not ready for this.
When you’re not alone, don’t you miss being touched.
Not all touch is welcome.
You tried to kill yourself in the garage because of this.
Who’s Bonnie Winterbottom?
He’s the one who chopped up the body.
I did it. It was me. I’m the murderer, arrest Me!

8/10

How To Get Away with Murder 6.08

Did Annalise fake her own death? Someone cuts Bonnie’s breaks and she ends up in a hospital.

Conspiring to murder.
They are the dwarfs.
Found all of your admissions essays.
I lost my entire family in a plane crash.
Annalise,  my breaks aren’t working!
The dwarfs have blood on their hands. They should pay the price.
The queen did it.
Oh my, there’s no body!
She faked her death and framed Snow White.
Who ordered you to kill that man?

6/10

How To Get Away with Murder 6.09

Wes is alive?! We learn who’s the mole. And another main character died? I ship Annalise and Tegan.

I hate all these people.
We’re smarter, it’s not fair that they took all the jobs that we deserve.
I teach so that some of you will make sure that the justice system lives up to its name.
She’s gay.
Are you two?
Married and thinking of buying a camper? Very much so.
Operation Bonfire.
I used to live here.
I should have left a long time ago.
It’s obvious who this is, Laurel.
No matter what happens, I’ll die loving you.
When you go down, I hope I’m the one to see it.
It was Tegan.
Tell us the truth, is it you?
Yeah.
Why did you do that?
You chose yourself.
I chose my mom and Chloe. I had to.
We weren’t these people when we got to law school.
They don’t want the dwarfs, they want the queen.
We were manipulated by our professor. Law students bran washed by an evil genius.
Safe yourself. You know that’s what she would do.
You’re both under arrest for murder.
Who died?
Asher Milstone.

I have finally managed to catch up on How To Get Away With Murder and now I’m in the process of finishing season 2 of Absentia. I also have a few episodes of Station 19 remaining.

When Calls the Heart 7.10

In this season finale Elizabeth lands a book deal and struggles with picking between the two men that have been in love with her all season. Rosemary tries to help Lee and his sister reconcile after the later visits Hope Valley to make amends. Someone gets shot. Elizabeth hugs Nathan at the end of the episode and now I ship them, possibly because the other match is too full of himself.

I don’t know what Lee was like 20 years ago, but the Lee I know today, he’s a good man with a big heart.
You named your son Patrick? It’s a good name.
If this was a date, I would take your jacket.
Leeland, I wish I could take back the last 20 years.
Elizabeth, would you like to get dinner with me?
Someone’s been shot.
I think it’s Nathan.

7/10

Station 19 3.06

The Station has been snowed in. A person’s foot gets amputated and he staples it back on as per an advice he found on the world wide web. Andy learns her dad’s cancer is back and Travis desperately tries to find a woman lost in snow. Dean’s daughter is born.

We’ll have to re-amputate the foot.
Requesting search and rescue.

3/10

Station 19 3.07

Maya and Karina are officially together. Dean’s child’s mother leaves the baby with him.

Aircraft crash.
This isn’t froma plane, it’s from a rocket.
I’m pretty sure you did it.
I’m not in a habit of fixing broken people.
I don’t need a girlfriend.
I was never going to stay.
She can find me when she’s 16 or 17.

4/10

Station 19 3.08

It’s a wonderful episode, where a lot happens. Caterina Scorscone guest stars.

I need someone smart with people skills to talk them down.
I am a recovering addict.
There is no getting over pain of any kind without telling the truth.
I don’t need you to baby me.
Okay then, enjoy the carnage.
There’s plenty of people with red hair though, it’s not a sign of anything.
Doctors without Borders is a great goal. You’ve got plenty of time.
Doctor Ben Warren.
Doctor? What are you doing here?
Helping you.
Which story do you want to hear?
She cannot distinguish you from that chair.
You haven’t decided whether or not you’re keeping her?
Just being alive isn’t the same as living.
You ever want to do anything differently, give me a call. You’ve got real talent.
We’re family. Is everyone okay? We’re family.
You know what’s weird? People who think red heads are aliens.
Poeple always die.
You lose more than you win.
You drink a little. You make inappropriate jokes and then you go home and sleep a few hours and then you do it all again the next day.
I can help you, I’ll move in here and I’ll help you with the baby.
Robert Sullivan is the one who took drugs. Wasn’t he?
I’m the truck.
I’m sorry, I’m not good with American idioms.
I’m the truck that destroyed the Station 19 family.

10/10

How to Get Away with Murder 6.02

I watched this episode back in October, and then decided to take a break from HTGAWM, now I finally have a minute to catch up. Michaela found her father, oh so she thinks. We learn that Laurel had a safety deposit box to which Wes also had access to.

Welcome to your last semester of law school.
Pathetic kid rescue collection.
Admit This!
I never killed anyone in my life, but try me.
Our client is 8 years old.
He has your eyes.
Your position has been terminated.
Your name? Wes Gibbins.
Your son killed your boyfriend.
My father’s dead. I could have met him if you told me.
Your fingerprints match the murder weapon.
When was it last accessed?

7/10

How To Get Away with Murder 6.03

Michaela kicks ass in the court room and wins the case. We learned that Tegan has a wife.

Professor for this case, my case.
A lesbian, a woman of color running a major law firm.
Because she’s my wife.
Can I yell at you for not telling me that you have a wife?
You got fired.
Maybe I’ll go on a bender.
I don’t think your dad is dead.
Your dad wasn’t the client, Michaela, he’s the lawyer.

6/10

How to Get Away with Murder 6.04

Annalise realises she’s gay, not bi. Michaela goes to her father’s conference.

What’s wrong with Connor!?
I like myself more when I’m with her.
You mean falling in love with Eve?
Falling in love with a woman.
My father would stick me in a mental clinic if he found out.
Are you in love with Eve?
The uncle, the abuse? Of course.
Where’s Oliver?
Working from home.
I never approved that.
Are you still high?
Yep.
Eve makes me feel safe.
What’s your preference?
Both.
Men who blame women for not wanting to have sex with them.
I want power to fix all of it.
I know you’re looking for a woman to love, why don’t you start loving yourself.
I came to change before dinner. Can you come back?
I know you, Michaela.

Schooled 2.19

CB becomes the principal for a few days and nurse Julie tells Rick she wants to quit being the school nurse and go back to working in the hospital.

Relax, Miss America, it’s a couple of days.

Schooled 2.20

Schooled is officially a better show than The Goldbergs. After seven seasons of The Goldbergs, there’s nothing new to see there. Schooled, in its second season, still feels fresh. After I typed fresh here, I headed over to Rotten Tomatoes to check if it’s certified ‘fresh’ on there too, and it’s currently at 73%, which is pretty fresh. Unfortunately, the Goldbergs have not been rated by the critcs. I loved The Goldbergs in the first 3 or 4 seasons, when all three of the kids were in school. The last three seasons rarely ever entertained me. I really think ABC is going to renew all of their shows seeing how most of the shows had to be cut short this year because of the pandemic. Speaking of cancellations, apparently Light as a Feather has been cancelled, and that comes as no surprise. If all episodes didn’t come out on the same day, I wouldn’t be actively following it week by week. In this episode, Wilma was voted coolest teacher and tried to help save a quiet girl from getting voted most quiet. As someone who has been called quiet, and someone who has actually gone silent for a year, just like the main character in Laurie Halse Anderson’s book (and film), ‘Speak’, I know ‘quietness’ is not something to joke about. To this day, without knowing anything about me, people comment on my quietness, which they mostly attribute to me being shy. Even though I’ve worked through it and I’m back to expressing my thoughts and emotions, I’ve always been an introvert, which means, no matter how much work I’ll put into being assertive, some conversations take a lot out of me. Anyway, I get this red headed girl, who Wilma chose to save from humiliation.

Waterworld.
I’m not a child, I rollerbladed there.
I’ve done my part. In high school I recycled the same essay 6 times.
You left your car running in the car park again.
A car says a lot about a man and yours says ‘I’m 14.’
New vegan restaurant.
You were a lot cooler before you won best teacher.
Most likely to speak up and change the world.
Most artistic.
I don’t think any of that stuff is weird at all.
You all have something that makes you one of a kind and today we’re going to celebrate that.
Sometimes it takes a new friend to help you realise you’re fine just the way you are. So don’t ever compare yourself to others, because the truth is, we’re all special and unique. You just have to let your true self shine through.
Volcano. Twister, Armagedon, Independence Day, The Sixth’s Sense.

The Goldbergs 7.20

It was a bad episode, but the quote below is everything.

At least I have you, TV.

1/10

The Goldbergs 7.21

Beverly wants to set Bill up on a date, but Leslie Grossman beats her to it. Murray tries to sabotage Bill’s new relationship, because he’s scared of losing his best friend.

I just didn’t want him to get hurt again.
You’re my friend. My one friend. We spend every Sunday watching TV at my house and the thought of that not happening…
I mean, you are two of my favorite people.

1.5/10

One Day at a Time 4.04

Penelope finds a pregnancy test that just happens to be positive and since Elena is gay, it can only be her 14 year old son’s girlfriend’s test.

Maybe she fell of the wagon.
No, she really loves that wagon.
No sex.
How many times do you want me to come out?
Excuse me, I think the Virgin Mary would clap back.

3/10

One Day at a Time 4.05

Alex wants to become a fashion designer and Penelope gives him a speech on how he shouldn’t give up on something he loves, but is bad at as, with enough practice he’ll get good at it.

I think you put the mental in environmental.
You can’t be afraid to fail. It’s okay to be bad at some things. Dare to suck! That’s the first step to getting good. If you love the fashion thing, you have to keep going back. And not be afraid to be bad at it for a while. Because you’ll get better. We’re all learning. It’s a process.
You think a sign is gonna stop me? I’m parked in the loading zone right now.

2.5/10

The Simpsons 31.18

Maggie is in love and Smithers threatens Homer into getting his new friend to sign over his new business to him.

Employee of the month.
No need to pretend we’re inbred hicks.
Perhaps it takes an idiot to catch an idiot.
Can I get a little help I dropped my sandwich in here (suggestion box).
As you fill out your sexual history.
Only Homer.

Netflix’s ‘Soundtrack’ starring Madeleine Stowe has been cancelled and The Good Place has ended. 2019 brought a lot of interesting miniseries, so I think it’s safe to say I won’t have 50 series to follow this year. Shameless is now officially on a break until next year when It comes back for 11th and final season. It’s an excellent show and I will miss it dearly. It’s my third favourite show that’s still on air and 2021 will be sad without it. American Horror Story has officially been renewed for 3 more seasons and I just really hope Sarah Paulson comes back for good. When Calls the Heart and One Day at A Time return later this month. A few shows including American Horror Story won’t be back till September. 911 and How To Get Away With Murder won’t be back until April. I still haven’t caught up on This is Us, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Riverdale, Killing Eve, Absentia and The Good Fight. I’m also excited to see Netflix’s version of Snowpiercer. Killing Eve has been renewed for season 4, but I still haven’t fully caught up on season 2.

Shows I’ll follow this midseason or summertime:

Law and Order SVU
Fuller House
How To Get Away with Murder
Carol’s Second Act
Modern Family

SVU 21.12

Three coppers shoot themselves in this episode including one we know very well. Olivia’s old friend from academy is the first one. Benson and the team later find out she was raped on the job by someone from her old team, VICE. Olivia’s old shrink comes back to treat the entire department and is also a witness to the second copper’s death. We learn that Tucker, Olivia’s ex and Elliot’s least favourite person, has cancer and that’s why he didn’t remember the first victim. We learn Olivia regrets leaving him and clearly still loves him. Tucker recently got married and decides not to be a burden on his new wife. This leaves Olivia devastated.

You just did something you never did when we were dating.
What?
You lied to my face.
She accused your partner.
Her career would have been ruined.
It was ruined anyway. She fell apart.
It sounds like she was slut shamed into keeping her mouth shut.
My old sergeant, he killed himself. Two hours after we talked to him.
Why didn’t he get the help he needed.
You heard his final words.
Ed, are you saying you covered up a rape to protect your friend?
No, I would never. He told me he had an affair with Rachel, and when he broke it off she cried rape and I stupidly believed him.
I’m sorry for the way I ended things.
What I wish I had and what I wish we had is more time.
We’ll always have Paris. You know, I’ve always wanted to say that.
He took his life with his old 38. I just don’t know what to do with that.
There’s nothing you can do with it, it just is.
He had brain cancer.
It’s suffering Liv, it’s not how we want to be remembered.
I know, I know. It’s just a lot of rain in one place.

SVU 21.13

Cat’s been taking boxing lessons and suspects one of fellow boxers is getting abused by the trainer.

Telling your story isn’t weak. And whatever happened to you doesn’t define you.
He gets stuffed, doesn’t he?
That’s all men actually.
Maybe you got too close.
Jesus. That’s what whispered when he crawled into my bed.
Your father?
At night I heard his footsteps and that’s how I knew he was coming for me. He’d get under my covers, move on top of me, hold me down.
I should have protected her.
Like you should have protected your sister? Your father got to her too?
I raised you alone, I had needs.

Greys 16.10

Teddy and Owen, my second favourite pairing after Calzona, are engaged! Amelia is not going to tell Link that the little boy she’s carrying could be Owen’s! Owen and Jackson learn that Korasik is actually a sensitive guy. Maggie is getting sued by her long lost family for not being able to save her cousin’s life. I’m not a fa of how they chose to have Helm profess her love to Meredith, this could have been amazing, and it’s a cringy disaster. I’m glad they haven’t killed Helm off, because we’ll all gladly follow her storyline. So far all we know about her is that she’s gay and has a major crush on Meredith.

10/10

Greys 16.11

Why do US doctors call the ER the pit? I would certainly like to know that just as much as the new Irish doctor. Amelia finally tells Link the baby may not be his. Teddy loses the engagement ring she got from Owen last week, and as we later learn, Leo swallowed it. Korascik is slowly becoming one of my favourite characters. Catherine wants to separate from Richard.

Are you calling the ER, the pit? Why?
I don’t know.
I honestly worry for your entire genre sometimes.
What was the doctors name?
Dr Yang.
Let’s talk about it after you’ve had something to eat.
When someone shows you who they are, you’re supposed to believe them.

4/10

Greys 16.12

Schmidt visits his dying uncle and when he comes out to him, the uncle dies. Catherine and Richard host an Anniversary party and when they’re about to tell Maggie and Jackson about the separation, firefighters show up. Peter Strauss from Rich Man, Poor Man guest stars as Levy Schmidt’s uncle’s boyfriend. Schmidt moves out of his mom basement, because she didn’t tell anyone in their family he’s gay. Richard and Karev offer Maggie a job and she accepts it whereas Catherine is thinking of buying Karev’s hospital.

I killed him. I killed him with my gayness.
When you started ‘rolling around together’.
Apologies don’t have the word ‘but’ in them.
I would have married him, I would have, but I didn’t know how to live with someone who didn’t love himself.
He was ashamed of himself, every day.
You have the freedom that he never gave himself.
We’re separating.
How long has this been going on for?
Who cares?!
You’re super Jewish now?
Now, but I am super gay, and you telling me that you accept me, yet refusing to tell any member of our family, that’snot accepting me. That’s not being proud of me and I can’t do it anymore. I won’t.
I’m not going to wait until I’m at an old age home with croshade blankets surrounded by people who never got to love me the way I deserved.
I’m moving out.

8/10

Station 19 3.01

Every time there is another catastrophe on Greys, there’s gonna be a Greys/Station 19 crossover. Helm, the gay intern, who’s in love with Meredith is injured. It’s sad that due to the Meredith going to jail storyline, no one from Greys threw Bailey a baby shower, whereas Station 19 characters did? They break into the house of two of the victims to feed their dog. Herrera tells his daughter Andrea off for sleeping around with co-workers.

8/10

Station 19 3.02

Andy finds a neighbour after she’s accidentally slit her wrist on a wine glass. Meanwhile the team are called into a clothing store. Customers make sure to steal clothes before evacuating. A teenager is scared of shootings. Herrera now runs an ambulance service? They showed us Warren’s past. Warren goes into fire without his helmet. Ben goes to visit a friend who was put on life support after Ben dared him to do something stupid. Ben comes to a realisation that him changing his careers, first being an anaesthesiologist, then a surgeon, and now a fire fighter were all his ways to try and save his friend. He also says he wanted to name his child Danny after his friend, but now that Miranda’s miscarried and they’re both in their late 40s, that’s probably not going to happen. Ryan tells Andy he’s still in love with her. Ben convinces his boss to create a physician response team, and he wants to become a field surgeon, surgeon first on the scene. A little boy finds his mom’s gun and shoots Ryan.

He looks like a sex offender.
Cop, not sex offender.
You’re the surgeon.
I am, I was.
Can I move in with you when I get fired?
I just called him a sex offender.
Shots fired.
It’s fireworks.
Officer, I want to report my husband for criminal stupidity.
Please don’t shoot me.
I see shootings on the news every day. And at school the lockdown drills, lock the doors, lights out, stay quiet. I always knew I would be in one of these eventually. I knew it, my brother always told me it’s statistically unlikely, but I know. I don’t even go to the movies anymore. Every time I go to the grocery store, I check for all the exits, I didn’t even want to come here to try on this suit, but my sister is getting married, so I had to get a suit. No I guess If I die, they’ll bury me in this suit.
Bishop’s kinda got a stick up her fine ass.
Bishop’s a lieutenant, watch your mouth.
The news you watch every day is designed to terrify you, because if it terrifies you, you drink more, you smoke more, you take more prescription drugs, and that financially benefits the same people who program the news. And yes, there are bad people with crazy amount of guns, but there are good people too. Kind people, people who fight for justice, and take care of your neighbours, and build houses, plant trees and ignore the few angry, or rise above it. So don’t waste your energy worrying you’re gonna get shot, use it to fight for the world you wanna be a part of. Use all that energy to make your fully functional legs, lift you up out of this pee stained suit and march to the world you wanna live in.
You should run for office or something.
I like my job.
I am surgeon who’s also a first responder.

8/10

Station 3.03

I am shocked they actually killed Ryan. He and Andrea were end game. Maya is promoted to Captain over Herrera. Herrera Senior was the one who asked Ryan to join Andy in Seattle as he’s worried he only has a year or so left to live. Greys cast guest stars including Korasik, Avery and Schmidt’s boyfriend.

Carol’s Second Act 1.13

Lexie stays at Carol’s after a gas leak at her apartment. They finally showed us Carol’s house and it’s nothing like Patricia’s The Middle and Everybody Loves Raymond houses. I liked the other ones much more. Carol realises her neighbour has a crush on her and she hasn’t seen it because after 22 years of marriage she is still wearing marriage glasses. Kyle McLachlan’s character complemented Frankie, yet It’s not clear whether they’ll be together or not, but then again, why else would Kyle agree to do this little show? My family and I are re-watching Desperate Housewives, we’re in the middle of season 2 and I just cannot wait for Orson to show up in three or four episodes. Patricia Heaton has just announced she’s written another book, this one will be called The Second Act and just like with her cook book, I’ll purchase it.

What should we do first, binge a TV show?
Carol with her hair down.
He wants to get into your gutters.
Welcome to Carol’s Great Opening!
I want to tell the whole world that I love you! I planted that lemon tree just for you.
Just FYI I would have been home in like 45 minutes.
I’d prefer if the grey-haired doctor did everything from now on.
Last night he chopped down the lemon tree.

5/10

Carol’s Second Act 1.14

Carol has noticed the group is starting to grow apart. Lexie didn’t tell anyone she’s a stand up comedian and (I almost typed Frankie instead of Carol, haha – I miss the Hecks). Carol gets everyone to turn up by telling them they’re the core of the group. Lexie jokes about Jen and Daniel dating which infuriates Carol.

Because you’ll the elder?
Because I’m the core.
Last time I was at a comedy club, I was still with your dad. The joke’s on me.
I keep thinking about how easy it would be to kidnap him.
There’s this old doctor, Carol.
I actually went on a date with them.
This is how I would react. Are you kidding me?!

3/10

Schooled 2.13

The episode revolves around Titanic and Lanie and CB argue about what anyone that’s seen the film argues about, that there was more than enough room for both Rose and Jack on that door. Lanie sees Titanic 30 times and how have I not realised Karan Bran from Jessie has joined the cast? Wilma confronts CB about his love of Lanie and Lanie finally realises she’s the girl CB is in love with.

Oh my God, I’m the girl. I’m the girl!

The Goldbergs 7.13

Adam watches the Oscars and later doubts himself when he learns the other Adam Goldberg didn’t make it in Hollywood.

As an aspiring filmmaker…
In that moment, my mom did something I never could have imagined. She gave me a highlight reel of every movie I’ve ever made. Maybe they weren’t all award winners. But thanks to her, I realised making movies wasn’t about succeeding in Hollywood, it was about creating something special with the people I loved and If I could do that for the rest of my life, I’d be living the dream.
These movies remind me that you are joyful and creative and one of a kind. And if you never give up, I just know you’re gonna make it.

dead

The show only had 3 good episodes so far (out of 6) and honestly, I’m only watching it for Elizabeth Mitchell. The way her character dresses and wears her hair is exactly same as her Lost character. I am always playing the ‘spot Lost references game’ while watching this show and they mentioned ‘Dharma’ a lot. Dead of Summer is a show from Lost producers, but the audience mainly consists of teenagers and Juliet Burke fans. I still can’t believe it’s been 6 years since Lost ended. How beautiful is this poster though? Scroll down to see 3 more.

Dead of Summer 1.01

One of the weakest pilots out there, at least someone fell off the roof.

3/10

Dead of Summer 1.02

Yikes, awful!

0.5/10

Dead of Summer 1.03

The third episode, best so far focuses around an overweight girl who loses her virginity to an asshole from school, who laughs at her in front of his friends, the morning after. Her father sleeps with younger women, and her mother knows and agrees to it, as she believes that’s all she deserves.

Don’t tell your mother, she’d die.
Mom, you deserve better.
Women like us sometimes have to settle. – A wonderful and depressing sentence.
My life took a wrong turn. I didn’t become the person I wanted to be.

5/10

Dead of Summer 1.04

A wonderful episode, focusing around the transgender character. It beautifully showed how the boy’s mother couldn’t accept his gender, even though he’s been telling his mom he feels like a boy since he was a little kid. There’s an inspiring moment when the mother finally understands that Drew is a boy, yet it’s too much for her and she moves out and leaves the teenager alone in an empty apartment with a note saying she can’t live with the fact that her daughter is no longer there. Bonus, look out for Lost references.

Life is a series of moments that don’t happen to you. Moments, that if you’re brave enough, you can help create.
I saw you Drew.
What did you call me?
Your name, it’s Drew. You’re a boy. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
Seeing you is a reminder of what I lost.
This tape that you gave me, I gave you 6 years ago.
I’m sorry. Are you crazy!?
There was never an Andrea.

10/10

Dead of Summer 1.05

One of the main characters were killed off.

0.5/10

Dead of Summer 1.06

Finally the Elizabeth Mitchell centric episode. What’s with the kids desperately wanting to play with an ouji board.

Camp’s been closed for years.
What happened to us. We were gonna save the world!
I guess the world changed.
I can’t lose you. Not again.
Maybe you didn’t save the world, but might just be able to save these kids.
It wasn’t supposed to be like that. You were supposed to be here too. We were supposed to be here together.

Hi guys, this is my 300th post, enjoy!

Greys 12.24

Still crying over Calzona never happening. There may have been warnings, but it’s still unbelievably hard to let go of a character you love. We deserved so much more. I hate that we didn’t get an appropriate closure with Callie. But most of all, I’m mad she left! Tremendously sad and angry about all this. Very happy about Benjamin cutting Kepner’s baby out on Meredith’s kitchen table. According to my notes this episode was 24/10, so that says something. I always download every single song featured on Greys, so I am currently obsessed with that new Rihanna song.
Can’t expect her to be Cristina.
I’ve had the love of my life.
Who? Izzie?
I am sober!
You’ve no idea how many people have locked themselves in that bathroom.
Stuff your feelings in!
Mer and I, the two of us, we’ve been through hell.
He left her to me and she left you to me.
Derek was supposed to walk me down the isle. He walked every one of my sister to the isle.
Nothing’s wrong with Owen.
He could use some sun.
I presented you with a menu of options and you chose to run.
Who has that twice?
Okay, can’t think of anyone.
Richard Webber.
Thank you!
He doesn’t even know my real name.
Poor guy, he loved me so much.
You showed superb technique. You saved two lives today.
I’m saying let’s all be happy.

10/10

SVU 17.20

This is one of the most common cases. I have friends who got into the modeling industry and quit just as quick as they were discovered after seeing their fellow friends go through this.

I didn’t want him to do that.
She took pictures of the rape.
Rape?
Yes, rape.
I warned her about this creep.
That bruise wasn’t there last night.
Is this art or porn?
Is that the camera you used during the shoot?
Sally didn’t want what he did to her.
This woman sets up models to be raped.
She looks terrified!
He doesn’t ask, he takes.
That story has a happy ending, she’s pimping for him now.
When I stimulated violence, she got off on it.

10/10

SVU 17.21

Another wonderful episode. SVU takes down every Bachelerotte-like reality series. Olivia and Fin’s reactions to Amanda and Carissi eating dinner together were priceless.

Who actually watches this show?
Wait, I don’t remember any of this.
Did you see what I just saw?
Did they just air rape?
Did Ryan rape me?!
That could be rape.
They said it wasn’t.
She signed a waver.
So I’m not a virgin anymore?
This girl didn’t realize she was raped until she saw it on live TV?
I got an STD from the rape!
He put it in her only for a couple seconds.

10/10

The Good Wife 7.22

The disappointing finale. Alicia messed up her relationships with everyone, to yet again, save Peter. I am only happy they brought Will back. What’s with Sutton Foster’s extremely short cameo?

Look at me, do I look like I’m breaking down?
It’s a ringtone. It’s a freaking ringtone.
Someone else’s she was using her cell to call 911.
You were always drunk, loling around.
Good to see you again.
Again, where was I?
It’s good to see people find their purpose.
Grace said she’s gonna drop out of college to visit you in prison.

10/10

Castle 8.20

Funny as always.

I grew up here, experimenting with costumes, makeup.
These fine gentlemen are constables.
Richard Castle is leading the case with the help from NYPD.
Mother?!
Richard!?
His yolo credit card, if he passes a gas station.
Ricardo.
Typy, typy, typy.

7/10

Nashville 4.20

Where was Candace when they were shooting The View part!? Elton John played on Nashville, and Nashville still got cancelled.

She’s everything. Without her music doesn’t mean anything. Nothing means anything.
I can’t. It hurts too much.

Welcome to ReviewThisFilm

This website started as weekly reviews on movies and tv episodes, and a diary of the 700 new films I watched every year. Today it’s a place for me to write a few words on films and tv shows that leave some sort of impact on me. I no longer write in depth reviews, partially thanks to bad habits gained by spending many hours a day on Letterboxd, and partially because of my demanding day job.

If you have a film you would like me to watch and review,  please leave a comment.

Enjoy!

About me

I am the dark and twisty Meredith Grey, the mad Dexter Morgan, hoping to grow up to be a little more like the wise, but fun Nora Walker. I am an aspiring filmmaker. My favorite actresses are Jodie Foster, Sally Field and Julianne Moore. Favorite genre – psychological drama. I watch anything with a sexual or mental abuse plot. I used to be a horror freak. I am obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, SVU and many more. My other interests include making oil and pencil portraits and wildlife conservation. I cannot say no to beautiful landscapes, travel, Aussie accent, TV/film quotes and avocados. I have recently moved back from Australia to the UK. I’ve been running this blog for the last 9 years. Here I comment on films and episodes I watch. Enjoy! – Joanne

favourite film and tv quotes

‘When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I used to sit in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I’ve met you and moved to Sydney, I haven’t listened to one Abba song. That’s because my life is as good as an Abba song. It’s as good as Dancing Queen.’ (Muriel’s Wedding)

‘I used to think about
your life in New York. I tried to imagine your room. I kept track of the time difference, so I  knew when you were awake and when you were asleep.’ (Disobedience)

‘Nothing’s clean, Howard. But we do our best, right?’ (The Aviator)

‘No, I’m not quitting. I don’t quit things.’
‘No, actually you do. Your mother quit your father. Your father quit you. You quit your boyfriend and if I read your hospital chart correctly you quit your life momentarily on a couple of occasions. You quit. It’s what you know how to do.’ (Greys)

‘Where the hell was I that year?’
‘Your were watching television’. (Everybody Loves Raymond)

‘It’s impossible to worry about anything else when there’s blood coming out of you.’
(Short Term 12)

‘I wanted it to happen. And when we were girls… Even then, it was the same. It’s always been this way! I have always wanted it.’ (Disobedience)

‘Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a moment when our lives change forever. The moment we admit our weaknesses, the moment we rise to a challenge, the moment we accept a sacrifice, or let a loved one go. And sometimes the change in our lives is an answer to our prayers.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Yesterday I went to the movies all day by myself. One after the other. I’ve never done that before. I had a really happy day.’ (Doing Time for Patsy Cline)

‘I just need something to happen. I need a sign that things are going to change. I need a reason to go on. I need some hope. And in the absence of hope, I need to stay in bed a feel like I might die today.’ (Greys)

‘She saved me my whole life. Without her, I’m nothing.’ (The Favourite)

‘Don’t wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don’t. In face of what we can lose in a day, in an instant, wonder what the hell it is that make us hold it together.’  (Greys)

‘Bree sobbed quietly in the restroom for five miutes, but her husband never knew, because when Bree finally emerged, she was perfect.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘I am not food, you cannot just eat and eat.’ (The Favourite)

‘I don’t love him.’
‘Of course you do.’
‘No!’
‘Don’t take me for a fool Olive,  I’m many things but I’m not a fool.’
‘I know that, you’re brilliant.’
‘Don’t you see, it’s over. Whatever this is, was, it’s over.’
‘I love You.’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing, is reason enough to celebrate.’ (Greys)

‘Many years ago, a neighbour and a good friend of ours took her life, and that left us all heartbroken and perplexed. But somehow, when I was alone in that hotel room, I forget about all the pain that she caused. In those awful moments, I thought maybe she had the answer.‘ (Desperate Housewives)

‘What happened last year when you fell in the water?’
‘I almost drowned. Do you think I did that for kicks?’
‘You put your hand in a body cavity that contained unexploded ammunition.’
‘I was trying to save a patient!’
‘Why is it that every other person in that room had the sense to hit the deck? You know people run away from this line between life and death. You seem to stand on it and wait for a strong wind to sway you one way or the other. You’re careless with your life. You’re not slitting your wrists but you’re careless. Probably because your mother told you you were a waste of space on this planet. The problem is you believed her. And if you don’t want out one of these days you’re going to die because of it.’  (Greys)

‘This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in. And I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future. And quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn’t see coming, but that’s really the point. Don’t you think?’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Was your life not working when you let that slip out from under you?’
‘When are you going to stop suggesting that I’m suicidal?’
‘When you start acting like someone that wants to be alive.’
‘Give me my chart.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I’m not suicidal, and if it says that I am, then it’s wrong.’ (Greys)

‘There is nothing wrong with me.’
‘Then show me your arm.’ (Degrassi)

‘Look, my whole life, I have been the freak. The girl who nobody picked for dodgeball. The girl who didn’t have a mom. The girl who dressed funny because it was her dad buying her clothes. And then, tonight I looked at these people, and I thought maybe there’s a future where I don’t have to be a freak. Maybe I can be who I am and that’s okay.’ (Everything Sucks)

‘Dr, I have been this way since…since I can remember. There is no cure.’ (American Horror Story)

‘He was so crazy about me, I couldn’t breathe. So we tried drinking our way back into love, but it never made sense in the morning. So I ran. And every time I came back, he was here. And he was still crazy about me.’ (My Blueberry Nights)

‘Bree van de Kamp had always wanted to live her life with elegance and grace. That is also how she wanted to die. Her plan was to pour herself a glass of her favorite chardonnay, put on her most stylish nightgown and leave behind a note on embossed stationery.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘All we have is this moment. The future is just a fucking concept that we use to avoid being alive today. So be… here…. now.’ (Six Feet Under)

‘On the train coming here, we were in the same cart, I saw you, you were reading and you feel asleep. I didn’t dare to look at you, you were so beautiful, it was scary. Afterwards,  I couldn’t stop thinking about you. It made me smile. Then I thought of all the men who would get to hold you, who’d make you laugh. How lucky they were.’ (Enemy at the Gates)

‘It was a good day. Maybe even a great day. Even when it was hard, I was the me in my head. There was a moment when I thought I cant do this, I cant do this alone. I close my eyes and imagine myself doing it, and I did, I blocked out the fear, and I did it.’ (Greys)

‘There comes a time when we must expose our weaknesses. When our secrets can no longer remain private, when our solitude can no longer be denied, when our pain can no longer be ignored, but sometimes we feel so alone that a weakness we thought we’d overcome suddenly becomes too strong to fight.’ (Desperate Housewives)

‘Why did you get married, Esti? Why didn’t you just leave? So everything was all right when I left?’
‘No. I was ill.’
‘What sort of ill?’
‘In my head.’
‘If I had to sleep with a man, why not with our best friend?’
‘Oh, Esti…’
‘It hasn’t been a complete disaster.’
‘And that’s enough?! Do you have to have sex every Friday?’
‘It’s expected.’
‘It’s medieval. What happened to you?’
‘Nothing. You happened to me. And then I started teaching and that became important. I give them ambition.’
‘To do what? Push out seven babies and be a good wife?’
‘Don’t. Don’t. I help them to value themselves.’
‘Okay, but what about you?’
‘That is me. And you? Are you happy?’
‘Yes, I am.’
‘Have you been with other women?’

‘You will be left all alone with your bitterness and your rage and your knowledge that you loved her and she loved you and you threw it away for them.’
‘Do you love her?’
‘Yes.’
‘And Have you always?’
‘Yes.’
‘So then ask her.’
‘Olive, will you forgive me?’ (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women)

‘No razors, no scissors, no fucking freedom.’
(Short Term 12)

‘You can’t take a picture of this. It’s already gone.’ (Six Feet Under)
